The purpose of this study was to develop a sinusoidal rotatory chair systim for evaluating the vestibular function in patients suffered from vertigo with vestibualr disorders. The sinusoidal rotatory chair system is composed of a rotatory chair system and softwares. Maximum velocity of the rotatory chair was upto 60 degree per second and frequency range was 0.01 to 0.64 Hz. To evaluate the vestibular function in vertigo patients, vestibuloocular reflex was measured by sinusoidal rotation of the whole body about vertical axis in the darkness, and optokinetic nystagmus, visual vestibuloocular reflex , and visual supression test were also performed. Eye movement was measured by means of a electronystgmograph amplifier through Ag-AgCI surface electrodes. Gain, phase, and symmetry were obtained from analysis of the eye movement ineuced by vestibular or visual stimulation. In healthy adults, sinusoidal rotation of the shole body produced nystagmus, of which gain was directly proportional to the velocity of stimulation. The gain of visual vestibuloocular reflex was greater than that of vestibuloocular reflex or optokinetic nystagmus, and it was suppressed markedly by visual suppression test. These results suggest that the sinusoieal rotatory chair system which was developed by this study can evaluate the vestibular function quantitatively, also this system is very useful to diagnose the vertigo patients with vestibular disorders and to estimate the vestibualr function during recovery from vertigo.

In this study, the exoskeleton orthosis for the assistance of dorsiflexion torque in ankle joint to prevent foot-drop was developed. It was consist of three part; 1) the power part using artificial pneumatic actuator, 2) wearing part of ankle and knee joints to fix the orthosis, and 3) control part to detect the gait phase using physiological signal. The dorsiflexion torque was generated by the artificial pneumatic actuator connected with wearing part between ankle and knee joint. The accurate timing to assist dorsiflexion torque is made up of physiological signal in foot sole part that detect the gait phase, that is, stance and swing phase in each foot. We conduct the experiment to investigate the effect of exoskeleton orthosis to the 7 elderly people and 10 healthy people. The result showed that the muscular activities in tibialis anterior muscle were reduced because of the assistance of dorsiflexion torque in ankle joint using the exoskeleton orthosis.

In previous studies, the dynamic exercise equipment just focused on the trunk stabilization exercise. However, our study is targeted at evaluation for the impact on the postural balance of those researches. Twelve male and twelve female subjects were volunteered for the balance training using this system. They had no medical history of backpain for the past six months. Trunk Stability and postural balance training was performed for 15 minutes a day, three times a week duing four weeks. To evaluate characterization of the postural balance using Balance System SD, Evaluation consist of the postural stability test and the postural limit test. As a result, this training with 3D dynamic exercise equipment help subjects improve the postural balance. These results are expected for using basic materials to the elderly with a high risk of falling and trained athletes needed to be a postural control.

The essential tremor is an involuntary oscillatory movement of body parts. Conventional treatments of essential tremor have little effects in some patients and also leads to significant side effects. Alternative to these treatments, sensory stimulation may have beneficial effects on the essential tremor. The purpose of this study was to analyze an effect of sensory stimulation on essential tremor. Ten patients with essential tremor ($67.4{\pm}8.82$ yrs, 5 men and 5 women) participated in this study. Three-axis gyro sensors were attached on index finger, hand and forearm of patients. Task of 'arms outstretched forward' was performed with and without sensory stimulation. Vectorsum of three dimensional angular velocities (pitch, roll, yaw) was calculated. Outcome measures included root-meansquare (RMS) mean of the vector-sum amplitude, total power, peak power and peak frequency. RMS amplitude, total power and peak power were reduced by sensory stimulation (p < 0.05). Peak frequency was not affected by sensory stimulation. The results indicate that the sensory stimulation is useful to suppress the essential tremor.
