본 연구는 지역혁신체계 구축을 통한 산업경쟁력 강화와 지역의 균형발전을 위해 수행된 참여정부의 지역 혁신계정 사업이 지역발전이라는 목표 달성에 어느 정도 기여하였는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 연구목적 달성을 위하여 지역혁신계정 사업의 성과를 측정하기 위하여 2002년부터 2007년 기간 중 16개 시 도별로 추진된 28개 세부사업의 연도별 지역별 투자 사업비와 사업수를 이용하여 첨단지식기반산업, 연구개발 분야의 사업체 및 종사자 수, 지역내총생산, 재정자립도, 이공계 대학 대학원생 수, 연구개발투자비 및 연구개발 인력, 특허등록건수의 변화와의 연관성을 실증분석 하였다. 분석결과 지역혁신계정 사업으로 투입된 사업비와 사업수가 많은 시기와 적은 시기로 구분하여 분석한 결과 첨단지식기반산업과 연구개발 분야의 사업체 수와 종사자 수, 그리고 대학과 대학원생 수를 제외하고는 두 집단 간의 혁신환경과 지역경제기반 구조 변화에 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 대학과 대학원생 수의 경우 지원사업 수가 많은 군집의 증가율이 더 낮은 것으로 나타나 예상과는 다른 결과를 나타내었다. 지역혁신계정 사업비 규모에 따른 집단별 분산분석 결과도 전반적으로 지역혁신 환경과 지역 경제 구조 변화에 차이가 없는 것으로 나타나 지역혁신계정 사업의 효과성과 효율성에 의문이 제기되며, 이를 개선하기 위한 정책적 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Fermentation of dietary fiber results in production of various short chain fatty acids in the colon. In particular, butyrate is reported to regulate the physical and functional integrity of the normal colonic mucosa by altering mucin gene expression or the number of goblet cells. The objective of this study was to investigate whether butyrate modulates mucin secretion in LS174T human colorectal cells, thereby influencing the adhesion of probiotics such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains and subsequently inhibiting pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli. In addition, possible signaling pathways involved in mucin gene regulation induced by butyrate treatment were also investigated. MATERIALS/METHODS: Mucin protein content assay and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining were performed in LS174T cells treated with butyrate at various concentrations. Effects of butyrate on the ability of probiotics to adhere to LS174T cells and their competition with E. coli strains were examined. Real time polymerase chain reaction for mucin gene expression and Taqman array 96-well fast plate-based pathway analysis were performed on butyrate-treated LS174T cells. RESULTS: Treatment with butyrate resulted in a dose-dependent increase in mucin protein contents in LS174T cells with peak effects at 6 or 9 mM, which was further confirmed by PAS staining. Increase in mucin protein contents resulted in elevated adherence of probiotics, which subsequently reduced the adherent ability of E. coli. Treatment with butyrate also increased transcriptional levels of MUC3, MUC4, and MUC12, which was accompanied by higher gene expressions of signaling kinases and transcription factors involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways. CONCLUSIONS: Based on our results, butyrate is an effective regulator of modulation of mucin protein production at the transcriptional and translational levels, resulting in changes in the adherence of gut microflora. Butyrate potentially stimulates the MAPK signaling pathway in intestinal cells, which is positively correlated with gut defense.

During the Rhee and Park regime, political corruption was a serious liability and almost all the major political violence involves this issue. There are two focal points of mass political protests in the political corruption. The first and most critical one involves illegality in political funding of the ruling elites. The other, less significant in terms political protest, is bureaucratic corruption. Though the political corruption is an internal process of Korean politics. external input in it has been substantial. Indeed the major source of political funding of the Rhee and Park regimes was American aid, both economic and military. Under Park, American direct aid began to dry up, and the corruption was concentrated on foreign loans, either American or Japanese government or commercial. The diversion of foreign aid and investment funds into the political funding was the critical issue during the Rhee and Park regimes.

This paper examines the suitability of using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools, ANSYS-CFX, as an initial analysis tool for predicting the drag and propulsion performance (thrust and torque) of a concept underwater vehicle design. In order to select an appropriate thruster that will achieve the required speed of the Under-water Disk Robot (UDR), the ANSYS-CFX tools were used to predict the drag force of the UDR. Vertical Planar Motion Mechanism (VPMM) test simulations (i.e. pure heaving and pure pitching motion) by CFD motion analysis were carried out with the CFD software. The CFD results reveal the distribution of hydrodynamic values (velocity, pressure, etc.) of the UDR for these motion studies. Finally, CFD bollard pull test simulations were performed and compared with the experimental bollard pull test results conducted in a model basin. The experimental results confirm the suitability of using the ANSYS-CFX tools for predicting the behavior of concept vehicles early on in their design process.

In this paper, structural analysis of semi-autonomous underwater vehicle (SAUV), of which the body will be made of composite material, is performed. The vehicle is an unmanned system operating with a robot manipulator at 400 m depth in the ocean and necessary technology such as an optical communication is being developed at KORDI. ANSYS is used for the structural analysis of pressure vessel (body) made of composite material and stainless link used for the launching of vehicle from mother ship. Instead of using shell element for multi-layered composite material, iso-parametric element is used for the simplification, as suggested in the reference. At the sharp corner of the vehicle where the manipulator is attached, very high stress is obtained, which could be the numerical error of finite element analysis related to the modeling at the comer. Except that, reasonable stress values are obtained and the safety factors have enough allowances. However, more rigorous structural analysis is necessary in the future using the precise material property obtained through specimen test and the proper finite element such as solid element in order to avoid numerical error at the sharp corner of the model.
