Colloidal silica slurry for the chemical and mechanical polishing of sapphire wafers has been manufactured by mixing nanosilica powders having different grain sizes. The quality of the manufactured slurry has been demonstrated by comparing removal rate and finishes with those of imported slurries at the same polishing conditon. In case of a flat surface polishing test using Kemet XJ 36 the removal rate of the present slurry and that of Utra-Sol 17 were 3.04㎛/120min and 3.03㎛/120min, respectively. The present slurry also showed good results in case of the edge polishing that is necessary for the prevention of breaking and crack of larger sapphire wafers.

Wood pellets are the most common type of biomass heating fuels made from compressed biomass. Wood pellets are produced by compressing woody biomass such as sawdust, planer shavings, and whole-tree removal or tree tops and branches leftover after logging into cylindrical form. Latterly much attention has been paid to industrial wood pellet boiler which is suitable for use at various scales in industrial furnaces for heat production to replace conventional fossil fuel energy sources since the use of wood pellet that is carbon neutral can alleviate global warming. This study presents the result of developing a high efficiency wood pellet boiler with 550kW capacity. Efficiency has been improved by using a shaking screw bar grate burner. Special attention has been paid to the improvement of the safety of the wood pellet boiler from backfire by adopting a double protecting system composed of a rotary feeder and an air curtain. The result shows that the efficiency of the wood pellet boiler is above 85% based on the lower heating value at 550kW heating output.
