Modeling high-speed impacts and explosions with ExLO code

Korea has recently developed a total shock physics code, ExLO, based on the three-dimensional finite element method in order to calculate highly transient events involving large deformations. One special feature of the code is that the Lagrangian, ALE and Eulerian schemes are integrated into a single framework. The details of the numerical schemes are described in a previous paper [1]. In this paper, the modeling capability of ExLO has been described for two extreme loading events: high-speed impacts and explosions. Results of three-dimensional calculations for penetration of long rods and segments (L/D < 1) into thick target show a good agreement with experimental results and other finite difference solutions. Next, we include the free field air blast modeling by two approaches, one-dimensional spherical coordinates and three-dimensional rectangular coordinates. The predictions are compared with an analytic solution of air blast. For large scale simulations required for complex design problems, some advances in the field of parallelization and adaptive meshing are demanded.

The Catcher in The Rye에 나타난 Caulfield의 性格硏究

"The Catcher in the Rye"는 New york 대생의 미국작가인 J. D. Salinger에 의해 1951년에 씌어져서 전세계인에게 한 문제점을 던져 주었던 소설이다. 이 소설은 Holden Caulfield라는 한 소년이 그가 다니던 Pency Prep School에서 퇴학을 당하고 New York의 뒷골목을 누비며 인간세상의 온갖 추한 것을 보고 역겨움을 느끼고 자기는 이러한 더러운세상(The Rey field)에서 그래도 아직 때묻지 않은 순진한 무리(The innocent)를 보호하고자 스스로 Catcher가 되고자 한다.

New York Times奮誌評 가운데에 신간Best sellers에 관련된 記零로서 짤막한 출판소식이 실린 일이 誤었다. 이 記事에 依하면 拙精의 主題민 J.P,Salinger의 唯一한 장편인 「The Cather in the Rye」가 판을 거듭하고 있으며 한편 美州內의 대학 가운데의 수백교가 이것을 미국문학 기타의 과정에서 必讓書로 指定하고 있다는 것이다. 그러고 보면 이 小說은 世上에 나은지 불과 9년만에 이미 古典 내지는 그에 類似한 대접을 받고 있다고 하여도 속단이라고는 할 수 없을것 같다. 이렇게 「Cather in the Rye」는 嘗代의 어떤 다른 作品보하츠 더 별리 읽혀져 왔고, 보다 철저하게 논의되어왔다. 즉 십대 청소년이나 교수나 전문적민 비평가나 모두 이 作品에 찬사를 보내고 있는 것이다. 그렇긴하나 어떤 面에 있어서 이 책은 成功하지 못했다고 할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 이것이 出版된 지 십수년이 지난 오늘날에 이르러서도 몇가지 판단한 質間에 완전히 답할 자가 거의 없기 때문이다. 이 質閣이란 즉 첫째 책의 끝부분에 이르러 "主人公인 Holden이 Catcher인가7" 둘째 '호밀밭의 파수꾼의 개념에 對해 作家 Salinger의 생각은 어떤가?" 이다. 이에 대한 대답은 Ihab Hassan이 "The avoidance of conversion"에 반대하고 또한 "Salinger'a failure to modify HoIden's Point of view by any other"에 만대하는 주장을 가지고서 요약할 수 있겠다.

I have attempted to identify the forms of the Baengnagwan (a white silk hat worn by the kings of Goguryeo) from the Kingdom of Goguryeo by researching the historical literature and mural paintings of both Goguryeo and China. By analyzing these historical records, I can infer that the Baengnagwan did not take after the Muguan (a type of military hat) used in China but was a conical hat, which was apparently similar to the Cheongnagwan (a blue silk hat), the Biragwan (a red silk hat) and the Sogol (a purple silk hat). By analyzing the mural paintings of the Kingdom of Goguryeo, I have identified that the Sogol was a conical hat with a high and wide moryun (a bottom part surrounding the central part of the hat, moche) and the moryun was made from jara (purple silk). By analyzing the hats worn by the Goguryeo envoys showing on the mural paintings of China, I can assume that both the Cheongnagwan and Biragwan were equipped with a blue moryun and a red moryun respectively, and had a higher moryun but smaller moche than the Sogol. Lastly, I have inferred the form of Baengnagwan through that of the Cheongnagwan and the Biragwan; the Baengnagwan was assumed to be a small conical hat, with a high and wide white silk moryun, a low moche hidden in the moryun, and strings tied under the chin. However, the Baengnagwan was distinguished from the other two hats in that the former was made from white silk and decorated with gold while the latter two were made from blue and red silk and decorated with gold and silver. In addition, the form and materials of bird feather ornaments also made the Baengnagwan differ from the other two. Though there remain limitations because of the limited historical evidence, this research is significant in that it lays the foundation for re-enacting the Baengnagwan based on historical facts. 본 연구에서는 문헌기록과 고구려 고분벽화 및 중국 벽화의 검토를 통해 고구려 백라관(白羅冠)의 형태 규명을 시도하였다. 비록 백라관의 실체를 확인할 수 있는 고고학 자료를 찾아내지는 못하였지만, 문헌사료의 분석을 통해 백라관은 중국의 무관(武冠) 계열의 관모(冠帽)가 아니라 청라관(靑羅冠)·비라관(緋羅冠)·소골(蘇骨)과 유사한 형태 특성을 지닌 변형(弁形) 관모임을 유추해 낼 수 있었다. 또한 고구려고분벽화의 분석을 통해 소골은 높고 넓은 모륜(帽輪)을 갖춘 변형 관모이며 소골의 소재로 언급된 자라(紫羅)는 모륜의 소재임을 밝혔다. 나아가 중국 벽화에 나타난 고구려 사신의 관모 분석을 통해 청라관과비라관은 각각 청색 모륜과 비색 모륜을 갖추었으며, 소골보다 모륜은 높고 모체(帽體)는 작아서 모륜이관모의 중심 지위를 차지하고 있음을 알게 되었다. 마지막으로, 청라관·비라관의 형태를 통해 백라관의 형태를 추정해 볼 수 있었다. 백라관은 백라(白羅)로 제작된 높고 넓은 모륜, 모륜 속에 거의 가려진 낮은 모체, 귀를 통과시킬 수 있는 끈으로 구성된작은 변형 관모로 추정되었다. 그러나 백라관이 백라를 사용하고 금으로 장식한 반면, 청라관과 비라관은청라·비라를 사용하고 금과 은을 섞어서 장식함으로써 서로 구별되었으며, 조우 장식의 형태와 소재에있어 청라관·비라관과 차등을 두었을 것으로 추정되었다. 자료의 한계상 논리의 비약이 많았으며 백라관의 정확한 형태를 제시하지는 못하였지만, 백라관이 역사적 사실에 보다 가깝게 재현될 수 있는 기반을 마련한 것에 연구의의를 두고자 한다.
