In this paper, we have studied the design and construction methods for the development of STAM(Scanning Tomographic Acoustic Microscope). STAM is a tomographic image reconstruction system using ultrasound. In order to obtain tomographic image information needed in image processing, this system requires the detection method for receiving both amplitude and phase information of the ultrasonic signal simultaneously and the multi-projection method for acquiring tomographic data to the three-dimensional structure of an object. In this study, for the construction of STAM, we have made a quadrature signal detector which is capable of detecting both amplitude and phase information from the conventional SLAM(Scanning Laser Acoustic Microscope), and a specimen rotation device for acquiring tomographic data, respectively. In this experiment, it has been shown that the STAM can give the separated tomographic images of each layer for the specimen which consists of two layers with different pattern respectively using four projections. It will be expected that the this STAM is useful tool in evaluating the object with multilayer structures.
