유방암 세침흡인의 세포학적 소견 - 세포학적 소견과 조직학적 소견, 병기 및 림프절 전이 상태와의 비교 -

In order to compare cytologic findings ol breast carcinoma in fine needle aspiration cytology (FANC) with histologic findings and prognostic factors including histologic grading, lymph node metastasis and stage, 79 cases of infiltrating ductal carcinoma diagnosed by FANC and confirmed by histology were analysed. We especially attempted to col relate nuclear grade, cellularity and smear pattern with histologic grade, type, status of lymph node metastasis and stage. The results are as fellows. 1. High nuclear grade was correlated with high histologic grade, lymph node metastasis and advanced stage. 2. Individual cell pattern was more frequently identified in high histologic grade and scirrhous or solid-tubular type than in low histolgic grade and papillotubular type. 3. Cellularity increased with higher histologic grade and lymph node metastsis. However cellularity was low in scirrhous type. 4. There is no relationship between nuclear grade and histologic type, between smear pattern and lymph node metastasis or stage, and between cellularity and stage. These results suggest that cytologic findings of breast carcinoma such as nuclear grade, cellularity and smear pattern are indicative of histologic findings in relation to histolgic grade and type. Especially, nuclear grade of FANC may yield valuable prognostic information.
Propylene Glycol과 glycerine의 열본해 특성

This study was conducted to evaluate the characterization of the pyrolysis products of propylene glycol(PG) and glycerine alone and together with tobacco. The weight change of the samples during the pyrolysis was measured by a thermal analyzer(STD-2960). The pyrolysis products were determined by GC/MS after pyrolysis using a curie-point pyrolyzer(CPP, $220^{\circ}C,\;420^{\circ}C,\;650^{\circ}C,\;and\;920^{\circ}C$) and a double-shot pyrolyzer(DSP, $220^{\circ}C,\;420^{\circ}C,\;650^{\circ}C,\;and\;800^{\circ}C$), respectively. The pyrolysis products from tobacco with and without the addition of PG($2\%$) and glycerine($2\%$ were assayed for its pyrolytic behavior. The results showed that a dramatic change in weight of PG and glycerine was observed at $175^{\circ}C\;and\;249^{\circ}C$, respectively. PG and glycerine showed different patterns for their pyrolysis products according to the method of pyrolysis. Namely, the change rate in pyrolysis with DSP was much higher than that of CPP at above $650^{\circ}C$. The major pyrolysis products of PG were propene, acetaldehyde, propanal, and acetol; the major pyrolysis products of glycerine were 2-propenal, 2-propenol, acetol, and acetic acid. In the pyrolysis experiments of tobacco added PG and glycerine, the pyrolysis products of PG and glycerine weren't detected additionally, except for diethyleneglycol diacetate. From these results, it can be concluded that the PG and glycerine added to tobacco would not be expected to pyrolyse extensively during smoking.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology (FNA) is an important diagnostic tool in the management of thyroid nodule. Especially, papillary carcinoma of the thyroid has distinct morphologic features that allow a definite cytologic diagnosis with high degree of accuracy. We examined the characteristic cytologic features of 57 cases of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, and their frequency and diagnostic significance were evaluated. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. In pattern of cellular arrangement, papillary structure with or without stroma is predominant feature (96%). 2. In individual cell morphology, grooved nuclei (95%), intranuclear cytoplasmic invagination (89%) and nuclear lobulation (74%) are most frequent and important cytologic findings. 3. Chromatin pattern is usually fine. Coarse chromatin is infrequent finding (37%). Nucleoli are inconspicuous. Cytoplasm us plump and distinctly eosinophilic. 4. Psammoma bodies are identified only in 4 cases (7%), but they are considered as helpful diagnostic features. 5. There are other associated findings including multinucleated giant cells (51%), macrophages (37%) and cystic degeneration (16%).

Acinic cell carcinoma is a slow-growing solid neoplasm of salivary gland. Although their cytological and histological finding is bland-looking, their biological behavior is unpredictable. We experienced two cases of acinic cell carcinoma of the salivary gland diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy and confirmed by tissue examination. They showed different clinical courses. We compared their cytologic and histologic findings. The first case was a right preauricular mass in a 58 year-old female of 3 years duration. The cytologic smear revealed sheets or small clusters of monotonous cells mimicking normal serous acinar cells with little cellular pleomorphism. She underwent superficial parotid lobectomy. The tumor was a well demarcated 1.5cm sized nodular mass without infiltration into surrounding parenchyme. The second case was a left submandibular mass in a 23 year-old male of 4 years duration. The smear showed more severe pleomorphism of the tumor cells than those of previous case. Excisional biopsy was done. The excised tumor was $5.5{\times}3.5{\times}3cm$ sized multilobulated solid mass with invasion into surrounding parenchyme. The tumor recurred after 20months, thus total excision of the mass and modified radical neck dissection was carried out. From the above findings, cytologic atypism, infiltrative growth pattern and type of initial therapy may be correlated with biologic behavior.

This study was conducted to evaluate the characterization of the pyrolysis products of tobacco constituents such as cellulose, lignin and tobacco additives. The pyrolysis condition was designed to simulate the pyrolysis/distillation zone$(200\~600^{\circ}C)$ and combustion zone$(700\~950^{\circ}C)$of burning com in the smoking cigarette. The pyrolysis products were determined by GC/MS after pyrolysis using Double-Shot pyrolyzer. In the case of cellulose and lignin, the number of pyrolysis product in the condition that simulate the pyrolysis/distillation zone was much more than the combustion zone simulating one. The major products of cellulose were levoglucosan, furfural, and 1, 6-anhydro-$\beta$-D-glucofuranose and that of lignin were phenol, 2-methoxy phenol, and 1, 2-dimethoxy benzene. In the case of tobacco additives such as 2, 6-dimethyl pyrazine, maltol, and piperonal, the pyrolysis products of these additives were evaporated from the pyrolyszer at least $96\%$ intactly. These results indicate that tobacco constituents such as cellulose and lignin were thermally degraded at the pyrolysis/distillation zone and thoroughly broke down at the combustion zone, but tobacco additives were intactly evaporated from burning com of smoking cigarette.

N/A Minimal Change Nephrotic Syndrome(MCNS) reflects a disorder of T-lymphocytes. These T-cells are thought to release a vascular permeability factor (UPF) that injures the glomerular epithelial cells (GECs). Glomerular epithelial cellular damage may lead to proteinuria in MCNS by decreasing the synthesis of polyanions such as heparan sulfate proteoglycan(HSPG) : these polyanions constitute most of the normal charge barrier to glomerular filtration of macromolecules such as albumin. This study evaluates the direct effect of supernatant of culture media of peripheral blood mono- nuclear cells(PBMC) which was isolated from children with MCNS to GBM HSPG mRNA expression in rats GEC. GEC were cultured until confluent. Supernatant of culture media of PBMC from each group of 3 chilren with MCNS, IgA nephropathy or normal healthy were added. Total RNA was extracted at 12, 24 and 72hrs after adding supernatant. RT-PCR using Rat Perlecan Domain-I(RPD- I) specific primers and beta-actin as internal controls was done. Densities and areas of GRM HSPG corresponding bands to beta-actin bands were measured. At 24 hrs, supernatant of culture media of PBMC from 3 children with MCNS caused 62, 70, and 75Vo reductions, respectvely, in GEC's GBM HSPG mRNA expression compared to normal children. However, supernatant of culture media of PRMC from 3 children with IgA nephropathy did not. In addition, reductions of GEC's GBM HSK' mRNA expressions caused by supernatant of culture media of PBMC from 3 children with MCNS were restored upto levels of normal children at 72hrs after adding supernatant. Mutant cDNA was synthesized as primers for competitive PCR to quantify GBM HSPG mRNA expression. Mutant template was 212 base pairs shorter than RPD-I, 497 base pairs. In conclusion, we found that supernatant of culture media of PBMC from children with MCNS reversibly suppressed GBM HSPG mRNA expression in rats GEC. This study suggests cytokines of PBMC from children with MCNS directly injures GEC and leads to decrease in synthesis of GBM HSPG by GEC in the pathogenesis of MCNS.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement of English listening and reading ability in elementary school students through chatting on Internet Messenger. The following research questions were proposed: first, what effect will text chat through Internet Messenger have on elementary school students' listening and reading ability; second, will there be any improvement in three different proficiency levels of elementary school students' English listening and reading ability through chatting on Internet Messenger? The results of this study show that text chat through Internet messenger does not have a significant effect on the improvement of listening but it does have a significant effect on reading proficiency. There was, however, a significant improvement in listening and reading ability for elementary school students of intermediate and low levels of proficiency.
