        With the increase in the number of multinational and multicultural research projects, the need to adapt health status measures for use in other than source language has also grown rapidly. Most questionnaire were developed in English-speaking countries, but even within these countries, researchers must consider immigrant populations in studies of health, especially when their exclusion could lead to a systematic bias in studies of health care utilization or quality of life. The purpose of this study was to translate and and culturally adapt the three most used neck and spinal pain disability questionnaires - the Neck Disability Index(NDI), Neck pain and Disability Scale(NPDS), and Functional Rating Index(FRI) - into the korean language and evaluated their reliability, in addition to item response pattern, to achieve a good cross cultural adaptation. Each translated questionnaire was found to have high reliability (FRI ICC (2,1)=0.86 ($95\%$ CI: 0.75-0.92); NPDS ICC (2,1)=0.90 ($95\%$ CI: 0.83-0.95 ; NDI ICC (2,1) =0.90 ($95\%$ CI: 0.81-0.94)). The reliability of the translated versions of FRI, NPDS and NDI were excellent.

        The purpose of this study were to measured peak torque of lumbar extensor at various degrees and to compare with the choronic low back pain patients and healthy subjects back extensor peak torque. Research subject are fifty choronic low back pain patients and fifty healthy subjects are Dong-a university hospital visited to 2000, January since 1999, august none lumbosacral traumal past history and neurologic disorder that is twenty generation, thirty generation, forty generation, fifty generation, sixty generation in healthy subjects and twenty generation, thirty generation, forty generation, fifty generation, sixty generation in cause choronic low back pain patients. The result were as follows. 1. There were each generation choronic low back pain patients and healthy subjects back extensor peak torque are consideration (p<.05). 2. Twenty generation was all degree of angle in lumbar extention peak torque in choronic low back pain patients back extensor are lower than healthy subjects(p<.05). 3. Thirty generation was all degree of angle in lumbar extention peak torque in choronic low back pain patients back extensor are lower than healthy subjects(p<.05). 4. Forty generation was all degree of angle in lumbar extention peak torque in choronic low back pain patients back extensor are lower than healthy subjects(p<;.05). 5. Fifty generation was all degree of angle in lumbar extention peak torque in choronic low back pain patients back extensor are lower than healthy subjects(p<.05). 6. Sixty generation was all degree of angle in lumbar extention peak torque in choronic low back pain patients back extensor are lower than healthy subjects(p<.05).

      • The Comparison of the Ability of Balance Performance between Abnormal Persons with Blindness or Deafness and Normal Persons

        Purpose: This study examined whether or not the balance performing ability of the disabled (blindness and deafness) is lower than normal people. Chronometry was used to compare the balance maintaining ability of blind and deaf subjects with that of normal subjects under the same conditions. Methods: In this study, balance foam, eye bandage, earplugs and headphones were used. The balance foam used in this study is smooth with slight elasticity and a convex upper side, 60cm wide, 15cm long and 9cm high. The eye bandage was used to artificially block the sight of the normal subjects, and the earplugs and headphones to block their hearing. Results: The mean time of the normal subjects standing with their eyes open, blindfolded and wearing ear plugs was 26.7, 19.8 and 28.7sec, respectively. The mean standing maintaining time for the blind and deaf subjects was 12.5 sec and 24.1 sec, respectively. The t-test result of the calculated mean time showed no significant difference (p>0.05) between the normal subjects and the normal subjects with their hearing blocked but there was a significant difference between the normal subjects with their hearing blocked and the deaf subjects (p>0.05). Conclusion: There was significance between the normal subjects and the normal subjects with their eyes blocked but there was no significant difference between the normal subjects with their eyes blocked and the blind subjects. Furthermore, there was a significant difference between the deaf and the normal subjects, which corresponds to the report showing that sight has a significant influence on balance.

        목 기능장애 설문지의 절중 문화 적응

        앞십자인대 재건술 후 토구를 이용한 불안정한 표면에서 운동과 안정된 표면에서 운동 시 하지 근활성도와 균형의 비교

        Purpose The purpose of this study is to provide an efficient and basis for muscle activity of Quadriceps muscles and balance in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction patients through unstable surface exercise and stable surface exercise. Methods This study included 30 anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction patients belonging to A hospital and D orthopedic surgery clinic of province who attended the program for 30 minutes at a time and three times a week for 4 weeks. Of these 15 attended the unstable surface exercise program and 15 the stable surface exercise program. To increase muscle activity (%MVIC) and balance (WPL), the unstable surface exercise. Results The %MVIC of lower extrmity muscle(RF, VL, VM) increased from before training to after training in the case of the participants who performed the unstable surface exercise, and the whole path length (WPL) decreased from before the training to after the training(p<.05). Conclusion In conclusion, unstable surface exercise program helps to improve the balancing ability and musle activity in a anterior cruciate ligament recunstruction patients who requires both muscle activity and balance than stable surface exercise program.

        체성운동영역이 제거된 편마비 흰쥐에서 억제 유도치료가 기능향상과 BDNF 발현에 미치는 효과

        억제유도치료는 건측 상지의 운동을 제한하고 환측 상지의 운동을 유도함으로써 손상된 상지의 기능 및 사용을 향상시키는 치료이다. 본 연구의 목적은 동물모델을 이용하여 억제유도치료의 효과를 운동행동검사와 면역조직 화학법으로 검증하기 위함이다. 본 연구에서는 Sprague-Dawley계 흰쥐 수컷 실험군 40마리 대조군 40마리를 사용하였다. 실험동물은 마취 후 체성운동영역을 제거하여 억제유도치료를 적용한 실험군과 적용하지 않은 대조군으로 나누었다. 실험동물은 수술 후 1일, 3일, 7일, 14일째 10마리씩 나누어 자세 반사 검사, 막대 걷기 검사, 앞다리 배치 검사, 면역조직 화학반응을 실시하였다. 결과는 실험군의 운동행동 검사에서 모두 유의하게 높았고(p<.05), BDNF 발현은 시간이 지날수록 실험군의 발현량이 높게 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 중추신경계의 가소성을 검증 하는데 기여하리라 생각된다. CIMT(Constraint Induced Movement Therapy) is to improve the function and use of damaged upper limbs by not only confinement of unaffected limbs' exercise but also inducement of affected limbs' one. The purpose of the study is to verify the effect of CIMT by means of motor behaviour test and immunohistochemistry, using animal models. This study was analyzed using 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats as the experimental groups and 40 ones as the control groups. The rats were divided into two random groups : one group as an experimental group which was operated on under anesthesia and removed somatomotor regions with CIMT and the other as the control group without CIMT.Postural Reflex Test, Beam Walking Test, Limb Placement Test and Immunohistochemistry were run on the day 1, 3 , 7 and day 14 following surgery to each 10 rat. As a result, this study demonstrates that CIMT might be an effect method to verify the plasticity of central nervous system as motor behaviour test made all high scores (p<.05) and BDNF was high too in experimental groups.

        상지운동과 붕대법이 상지림프부종 환자의 부종과 관절가동범위에 미치는 영향

        Purpose:The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of upper extremity exercise and Bandage on the edema and range of motion. Complex decongestive physiotherapy was one of the latest methods to deal with the limitation of range of motion and the edema that were the prime problems of patients with lymphedema. Methods:Twenty patients undergone mastectomy were participated in this study voluntarily. They had lymphedema on upper extremity and partial limitation of range of motion. The subjects had been treated with upper extremity home exercise and complex decongestive physiotherapy with Bandage for 4 weeks. The measure of these patients with upper extremity edema was included: the volume, arm circumfenence and range of motion. These were measured two times: before the treatment, after 4 weeks of the treatment. Results:The upper extremity edema of patients treated home exercise group and complex decongestive physiotherapy group with Bandage was definitely decreased (p<0.05). Moreover, the upper volume of those who were the same condition also significantly shrank and patients` arm circumferences of upper arm breathtakingly diminished as well (p<0.05). But home exercise group patients` arm circumferences of forearm was not remarkable (p>0.05). However, patients` range of motion who were treated with upper extremity exercise were evidently increased when compared to that of the before treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion:Complex decongestive physiotherapy and bandage performed by physical therapist increased the ROM of upper arm and reduced the edema in patients with lymphedema.

        복합운동프로그램이 여성노인의 체력과 항노화 호르몬에 미치는 영향

        PURPOSE: This study examined the effect of the combined exercise program on physical fitness and related hormone in elderly women. METHODS: The subjects included 40 elderly women who reside at B city. Upon thire agreements, the subjects were divided into either an experimental group and the control group. there 20 subjects in each. The combined exercise program was conducted during the 8 weeks, and the experimental group was underwent its associated program 5 times a week. there wear 2 subjects from each group that were excluded. The physical fitness wear measured and the related hormone(growth hormone, DHEA) were taken with blood serum density. RESULTS: After 8 weeks for intervention, there were statistically significant differences between in physical fitness and growth hormone, DHEA in experimental group(p<.05). however, this difference was not significantly different in the control group. Futher, there wear statistically significant difference between two group of all item(p<.05). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study show that combined exercise program helps the physical fitness and increase of growth hormone, DHEA in elderly women. In conclusion, the regular combined exercise program for 8 weeks is effective for increase physical fitness and related hormone in elderly women, and positive influence upon, thereby being thought to be able to lower risk in aging and weakness.

        갱년기 골다공증 환자의 HRT와 Alendronate 1년 병합치료 효과

        N/A Background; Rate of bone loss should be increased after menopause and then formation coupled with resoprtion also be increased. Alendronate (Fosamax ;MSD, Rahway, NJ, USA), an antiresorptive drug known to be helpful to prevent bone loss. Alendronate is one of antiresorptive drug for treatment of osteoporosis and resulted in a decrease of bone turnover, There are no available data about Korean people, So, we wanted to determine the effects of alendronate in Korean postmenopausal osteoporosis patients after 1- year treatment Subjects and Methods; We studied 42 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis (bone mineral density[BMD] T score<2.5) who visited osteoporosis clinic in Samsung Cheil Hospital from Jan. 1999 to Apr. 2000, Subjects were stratified in 2 groups. Group 1 treated with alendronate 10mg/day and estrogen, and Group 2 treated with estrogen alone. BMD at the lumbar spine were measured at baseline and 1-year after treatment. We also measured serum marker of bone formation (total alkaline phosphatase[Alk]), and marker of bone resorption (deoxypyridinoline [DPYD]) from urine at baseline, 3months and I-year after treatment. Results; The mean differences in changes of markers after 3 months and 1 year of treatment were remarked significantly (3-Month; delta Alk:-28,7±3.6%, delta DPYD:-31.0±5,4% vs 1-Year; delta Alk:-32.2±3.1%, delta DPYD:-23.0±3.5%). Markers of bone metabolism showed no significant responses between two groups at 3 months and 1year after treatment, Also, Bone mineral density at lumbar spine was significantly increased in Group treated with alendronatc and estrogen than estrogen only group (9.6±0,7% vs 5.3±0.6%, P<0,001). Conclusion; Our data showed that using alendronate with estrogen to the patients of Korean women with osteoporosis increase bone mineral density more, So, we concluded that alendronate therapy with estrogen was helpful to manage postmenopausal osteoporosis patients.

        불안정한 지지면의 척추안정화 운동이 척추측만증 환자의 체간 자세와 균형에 미치는 영향

        Purpose:This study was somatosensory less in patients with idiopathic scoliosis somatosensory input to the lumbar stabilization exercises carried out to determine the most effective treatment method to be stable and unstable in terms of supporting the lumbar stabilization exercises the patient`s torso length and postural sway by comparing the distance from a standing position and looked for differences in effect on the balance. Methods:The subjects of the study were 18 patients who showed the symptom of scoliosis. The study classified the patients into two experimental groups, one using an unstable surface and one a fixed surface, and the patients were required to do a lumbar stabilization exercise a total of 12 times for 60 minutes per session, three times a week for four weeks. The study carried out a paired comparison t-test so as to compare differences between measurement values in each experimental group before and after the exercise. Results:Superior iliac spine on the left, there was a significant reduction in the group doing the lumbar stabilization exercise on an unstable surface (p<0.05). Regarding change in sway distance to the left and right directions in the group doing the lumbar stabilization exercise on the unstable surface, there was a significant decrease in both the condition of closed eyes or open eyes (p<0.05). As for change in sway distance in forward-and-backward direction, there was a significant reduction in the condition of either closed eyes or open eyes (p<0.05). Conclusion:The lumbar stabilization exercise on an unstable surface improved the trunk posture of patients with scoliosis symmetrically, and the static balance ability in a standing posture was discovered to be improved. In the future, the lumbar stabilization exercise on an unstable surface may be used as a posture correction and balance increase exercise for patients with scoliosis.
