        Implementation of Interactive Self-portrait using Real-time News Stream

        This study is about the interactive self-portrait which provides the experience of self-consciousness reflection of the viewer to modern people who are easily alienated in rapid social change. We proposed interactive self-portrait is implemented by an interactive mirror that reproduces the appearance of the viewer acquired using a webcam. The interactive mirror, which can directly project its own image, is drawn by searching news articles in real time and using the extracted characters as pixel information in real time. The viewer has the opportunity to experience a new style of active self-expression while watching his/herself composed of news characters that are issues of modern society. The virtual self-portrait designed with news characters can attract viewers' attention by visually expressing the interests of modern people and can act as an incentive to generate positive interaction.

      • Observation of unexpected secondary phases in CZTSe solar cell using Raman spectroscopy

        Raman spectroscopy is a widely used tool to detect secondary phases in Cu<sub>2</sub>ZnSnSSe<sub>4</sub> (CZTSSe) solar cells without damaging samples. Since a small amount of the secondary phases can cause a performance drop in CZTS/Se solar cell devices, identifying secondary phases is important. Since Raman signals are highly sensitive to the existence of secondary phases using the resonance Raman effect, it is possible to detect a small amount of secondary phases in the solar cell. We carried out Raman spectroscopy with four lasers as excitation energies. We observed unusual secondary phases, ZnO and S/Se alloy in our CZTSSe absorber layer. ZnO is usually used as an n-type TCO layer in CZTSe solar cells, but a ZnO layer was not initially deposited on our absorber layer. Additionally, we found that ZnO can be formed when high power UV laser is irradiated on CZTSe. For S/Se alloy, we compared Raman signals from S/Se alloy clusters to S and Se powders.

        Information Status and Prosodic Prominence as Perceived by Korean Learners of English

        This study investigates the relationship between information status and prosodic prominence perceived by Korean learners of the English language, compared to English native speakers, in a complete public speech. Both groups of speakers were asked to mark words that they perceived as being prominent, while listening to a speech in real time. The information status of a word was annotated as a function of referential and lexical information, as well as focus. The results show that Korean native speakers perceive prosodic prominence in a similar manner to that of English native speakers. Both groups are more likely to perceive prominence for new or focused words than for given or non-focused words. The two groups, however, differ in that Korean native speakers tend to more frequently perceive prominence for words carrying lexical information than English native speakers. This bias seems to be influenced by parts-of-speech, in alignment with the findings of previous studies.

        Atypical Character Recognition Based on Mask R-CNN for Hangul Signboard

        This study proposes a method of learning and recognizing the characteristics that are the classification criteria of Hangul using Mask R-CNN, one of the deep learning techniques, to recognize and classify atypical Hangul characters. The atypical characters on the Hangul signboard have a lot of deformed and colorful shapes beyond the general characters. Therefore, in order to recognize the Hangul signboard character, it is necessary to learn a separate atypical Hangul character rather than the existing formulaic one. We selected the Hangul character ‘닭’ as sample data and constructed 5,383 Hangul image data sets and used them for learning and verifying the deep learning model. The accuracy of the results of analyzing the performance of the learning model using the test set constructed to verify the reliability of the learning model was about 92.65% (the area detection rate). Therefore we confirmed that the proposed method is very useful for Hangul signboard character recognition, and we plan to extend it to various Hangul data.

        상호텍스트성을 활용한 디지털 자화상 창작

        본 연구의 목적은 관람자에게 자아 인식의 문제에 천착하게 하는 몰입의 경험을 제공하는 자화상을 창작하는 것이다. 우리는 관람자로부터 획득한 음성과 이미지 정보를 활용하여 인터랙티브 자화상을 구현하는 방안을 제시한다. 관람자의 음성 정보는 텍스트로 변환되어 시각화되는데, 텍스트 시각화를 위한 픽셀 정보로 관람자의 얼굴 이미지가 활용된다. 텍스트는 개인의 경험과 기억을 바탕으로 자신만의 감성, 상상, 의도 등이 다양하게 혼합되어 있는 결과물이다. 사람들은 각자 다른 방식으로 특정 텍스트에 대한 상이한 해석력을 발휘한다. 제안한 디지털 자화상은 텍스트가 가진 상호텍스트성을 활용하여 내적인 면에서 관람자의 자의식을 재현할 뿐 아니라 텍스트에 내재된 의미들을 확장한다. 넓은 의미에서의 상호텍스트성은 텍스트와 텍스트, 주체와 주체 사이에서 일어나는 모든 지식의 총체를 가리킨다. 따라서 텍스트로 표현된 자화상은 관객과 텍스트, 관객과 관객, 텍스트와 텍스트 사이에서 다양한 관계를 파생시키며 확장해간다. 또한 본 연구는 제안한 자화상이 외적인 면에서도 텍스트가 가진 조형성을 확인하고 시공간성을 재창조할 수 있다는 것을 보여준다. 이 동적 자화상은 실시간으로 관람자들의 관심사를 반영하고 갱신되며 창작되는 특성을 지닌다.

        Realization of a Motion-based Interactive System Using Extraction of Real-time Search Terms

For this purpose, real-time search terms and related news information were extracted from three domestic and foreign portal sites, and the extracted information was used to generate content for interaction with the user. For interaction between the generated content and the user, a motion-based interactive technology that optimizes the intentions and experiences of the user was developed.         Interactive Typography System using Combined Corner and Contour Detection

        Interactive Typography is a process where a user communicates by interacting with text and a moving factor. This research covers interactive typography using real-time response to a user’s gesture. In order to form a language-independent system, preprocessing of entered text data presents image data. This preprocessing is followed by recognizing the image data and the setting interaction points. This is done using computer vision technology such as the Harris corner detector and contour detection. User interaction is achieved using skeleton information tracked by a depth camera. By synchronizing the user’s skeleton information acquired by Kinect (a depth camera,) and the typography components (interaction points), all user gestures are linked with the typography in real time. An experiment was conducted, in both English and Korean, where users showed an 81% satisfaction level using an interactive typography system where text components showed discrete movements in accordance with the users’ gestures. Through this experiment, it was possible to ascertain that sensibility varied depending on the size and the speed of the text and interactive alteration. The results show that interactive typography can potentially be an accurate communication tool, and not merely a uniform text transmission system.

        Design of Kinetic Typography Interaction based on the Structural Characteristics of Hangul

        Kinetic typography is technology such as color, scale, position of the letter changes dynamically with time and it communicates information with aesthetics and originality. The purpose of this study is to identify the design factors in the formativeness of Hangul and present and implement the interaction design method of unique Hangul kinetic typography based on the scientific structure of Hangul. We implemented the Hangul kinetic typography system, which varies in sizes and motion directions according to a viewer’s movement and exhibited in a media art event. To do this, we used a viewer’s skeleton information on typography synchronization. The results indicated that Hangul kinetic typography has potential not only as a means to communicate with viewers but also as a medium to show the artistic value of Hangul.

        Emotional Communication on Interactive Typography System

        In this paper, we propose a novel method for developing expressive typography authoring tools with personal emotions. Our goal is to implement an interactive typography system that does not rely on any particular language and provides an easy, natural user interface and allows for immediate interaction. For this purpose, we converted the text data entered by a user to image data. The image data was then used for interaction with the user. The data was synchronized with the user's skeleton information obtained from the depth camera. We decomposed the characters using the formality of language to provide a typographical movement that responds more dynamically to the user's motion. Thus, this system provides interaction as a unit of characters rather than as a whole character, allowing the user to have emotional and aesthetic emotional immersion into his or her creation.
