Aesthetic Effects of The Voice-Over In Orson Well's The Magnificent Amersons

This essay argues that the voice-over is a distinctive technique of film art that embodies the heterogeneous relation of words and images in film by looking at the aesthetic effects of the voice-over in Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons. Most early film critics asserted that the voice-over in film merely serves as an easy or pseudo-literary device that imposes the auteur’s diegetic message on the audience. Yet the voice-over narration exemplifies the unstable yet boundless potentiality of filmic representation, an integrated genre of images and words. The voice-over in The Magnificent Ambersons generates various and versatile aesthetics effects. First, the voice-over functions as an oral storyteller that Walter Benjamin explains as a mediator of collective memory. It also serves as a humorous and un-authoritative novelistic narrator that stands on the equal level with the characters. Lastly, the voice-over produces the ‘acousmetre’ effect when it returns with the celebrated face scene of Major Amberson, which reveals the ‘contaminated’ relation of words and images in film. The voice-over in The Magnificent Ambersons constitutes not only a remarkable aesthetic achievement in film history but also a significant manifestation that illustrates the heterogeneous relation of words and images in film.

Eliza Haywood’s Love in Excess and The Female Comic Tradition

The purpose of this essay is to examine the intimate tie between comedy and women at the initial stage of the novel formation, and to read Eliza Haywood's Love in Excess as an early text in the female comic tradition. Amatory fictions of early women writers, such as Behn, Manley and Haywood, have largely been read in relation to French heroic romance or as precursors of Richardson's sentimental novels. Yet the three female wits reclaimed the intimate relation between comedy and women before the novel, and initiated the female novelistic comic tradition. The focus of Love in Excess, Haywood's first novel and a sensational market success, is woman as a subject of desire, rather than persecuted innocence, as the common conception goes. It is the aggressive passion of women characters, frank, down-to-earth, and aware of their desire, that initiates and also complicates the plots of the novel that is based on the conventions of comedy.(Ewha Womans University)

한국사회의 젠더갈등과 감정동학: 2022년 대선 여성가족부 폐지 담론을 중심으로

Conflict patterns in Korean society have changed from regional conflicts to generational conflicts and even gender conflicts. Among them, this paper tried to pay attention to gender conflict as a representative phenomenon leading to 'emotional conflict', and to observe the exercise, resistance, and reconstruction of ideology-instrumental violence in the process.The 20th presidential election in 2022 was an example of a new change in the topography of conflict in Korean society, and I executed a netography analysis focusing on the "Discourse on Abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family," which triggered gender conflict. Theqoo, a representative online community for young women was participated and observed for 8 months and analyzed through Victor Turner's social drama model.As a result, starting with the pledge to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, social dramas in the online community showed a four-step structure of Breach-Crisis-Redress-Reintegration or Schism over time. Among them, internal members appeared to express political opinions through fandom strategies that can reconstruct their identity, share a sense of homogeneity, and reveal their identity through the Liminality and Communitas processes.

북한 고등중학교 음악교과서 분석 및 음악교육 실태조사

본 연구의 목적은 북한의 고등중학교 음악교과서 분석과 새터민 인터뷰를 통하여 북한의 음악교육을 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 향후 통일교육에 대비하는 밑거름이 되도록 하는 것이다. 북한고등중학교 음악교과서를 분석한 결과 첫째, 외형체제 면에서는 모두 동일한 판형을 가지며 삽화나 사진 등은 거의 찾아볼 수 없고 종이 재질, 잉크 상태 등은 질이 낮고 불량하였다. 둘째, 내용체제 면에서는 가창영역과 시창영역의 비중이 높고 가사 내용은 김일성·김정일 부자 찬양, 조국찬양, 충성에 관한 내용이 많았다. 그 외 기악영역, 이론영역 등은 내용이 적어 실질적으로 학습되어진다고 보기는 어려웠다. 셋째, 인터뷰결과 북한의 교육시스템은 남한과 비슷하게 구성되어있지만 시설낙후, 경제적 어려움 등으로 인해 교실 내 악기보급이 부족하고, 음향시스템이 구비되지 않는 등 교육 환경이 열악함을 알 수 있다. 연구결과를 종합하면 북한의 음악은 주체사상을 뒷받침하는 수단으로 사용되고 있음을 알 수 있다.

도시재생을 위한 체험기반 컬처노믹스 실행에 관한 보고 - 서울로7017의 액티베이터(Activator) -

The paradigm of urban regeneration has shifted from the physical construction center to a cultural based policy, and the key factor is culture as a source of urban competitiveness. As urban regeneration using culturenomic has recently emerged as a key issue in the world, Korea is actively pushing forward with the strategy of culture and art. Therefore, this study explores an implementation of sustainable culture space creation through the activist of '7017 Seoul', which is the most recently opened Seoul city's cultural novels urban regeneration project, physical, environmental, and life effects, and suggests the direction of cultural norms implementation for urban regeneration. From this analysis, we could identify the effects of economic, physical, environmental, and daily life while explaining sustainable attributes in the execution of culturenomics and suggest implications for the direction of cultural nominals for urban regeneration. 1) the urban environmental structures are considered of streets, 2) lack of cultural consideration from the part of public projects 3) lack of sustainability of public spaces. This study is to refer to be a culture- based urban regeneration plan as a basis for the regular review of the sustainable experience - based culture norms strategy at the present time, which is being activated in each city in Korea. 최근 세계적으로 컬처노믹스(cultrenomics)를 활용한 도시재생이 핵심이슈로 떠오르면서 국내에서도 문화와 예술을 전략화 하여 적극적으로 추진하고 있다.문화는 도시경쟁력의 원천이 되므로 도시재생의 패러다임은 물리적 건설 중심에서 문화를 기반으로 하는 정책으로 전환 되었다. 이는 다시 말하면 도시의 랜드스케이프(landscape)를 전환하는 일과도 연관한다. 이 연구는 문화기반 도시재생관련 계획에 따른 개발이 각 도시마다 활성화 되고 있는 현 시점에서 지속 가능한 체험기반 컬처노믹스 전략의 일정의 점검과 기초자료로 활용되기 위한 보고용 연구이다. 따라서 본 연구는 가장 최근 개장한 서울시의 대표적인 컬처노믹스 도시재생 사업인‘서울로 7017‘의 액티베이터를 대상으로 하여 지속가능 한 문화 공간의 창출을 위한 그 실행에 관하여 알아보았다. 이 분석을 통해서 컬처노믹스의 실행에 있어서 지속 가능한 속성을 밝히면서 경제적, 환경적, 생활적 측면의 세부적 효과를 규명하고 도시재생을 위한 컬처노믹스 실행 방향의 시사점을 제시할 수 있었다. 조사 결과, 첫째, 문화콘텐츠를 실행하는 액티베이터의 물리 환경적 설치건축은 보행을 위한 경로로서 인지되고 있었다. 둘째, 다양한 사용자의 액티베이터의 공영 프로그램이 매우 부족하였다. 셋째, 지속적인 도시재생으로 컬처노믹스를 실행하기 위한 정치적 제도적인 지원과 관리가 없었다. 도시창조는 국가의 경쟁력이며 또한 국가 이미지이고 도시자체가 브랜드로서 경쟁력을 가지게 된다. 따라서 국가적 지원과 운영관리를 통해 시민의 삶의 가치와 지역의 사회, 경제적 활성화를 위한 지원체계구축이 추진되어야 한다.

This essay reads Heathcliff, the gothic villain of Wuthering Heights, in the light of Spinoza’s ethics of desire. In Ethics, Spinoza not only exposes the anthropocentric nature of the concepts of good and evil but also argues that the desire of an individual (i.e., a singular thing) constitutes his/her singular essence. In other words, Spinoza’s ethics of desire thrusts a radical critique of conventional morality as well as presents an individual’s singular desire, not universal reason of human species, as his/her essence. Furthermore, proposition 57 of Part III in Ethics, which was used as an epigraph in Jacques Lacan’s doctoral dissertation, makes it clear that an individual’s singular essence lies in his/her singular affects. Heathcliff, a gothic villain or a Romantic hero in gothic novels, embodies Spinozist ethics of desire. His singular essence lies in his obsessive affects that deviate from “normal” social desire; the bizarre turn of his devaluation of human values, such as pity, humanity or duty, shocks our ordinary senses or affects, and challenges the entrenched regime of signs. While his singular desire is manifested in his desiderium (longing/desire) for Catherine and his pursuit of vindicta (vengeance) among the list of affects in Spinoza, it is ultimately the fulfillment of his death along with his strangely cheerful changes before it in the last part that epitomizes his singular and gothic essence: “my heaven.”

파골세포 및 그 전구세포에 관한 조직학적 및 효소조직화학적 연구

To investigate the osteoclasts and their precursors, the authors induced bone remodeling along the periosteum of right limb of the mandible by extracting the right upper molars in rats. At 1,2,3,4, and 5 days after induction of bone remodeling, the right mandibles were dissected and studied histologically and enzyme histochemically with nonspecific esterase(NSE), acid phosphatase(ACP), and alkaline phosphatase(ALP), The results were as follows; 1. In control group, periosteal surface was covered with osteoid tissues and osteoblasts, and the osteoblasts showed positive reaction for the ALP. No osteoclasts could be seen. 2. In experimental group, osteoid tissues and the number of osteoblasts tended to decreased and disappeared completely after 3 day of induction. The mononuclear cell, however, were present at 1 day, and increased in number until 2 days after induction. The mononuclear cell, however, were present at 1 day, and increased in number until 2 days after induction. They showed positive reaction for either NSE or ACP. From 3 days of induction, the NSE positive cells showed a gradual decrease while the ACP positive ones remained increase. 3. The osteoclasts were first observed at 2 days of induction and increased in number at 4 and 5 days. These cells were strong positive for ACP, but weak to moderate positive or negative reaction for NSE. Above findings may indicate that the resorption phase by the osteoclasts precedes the formation phase by the osteoblasts in bone remodeling, and progenitor cell of the osteoclasts is the mononuclear cell which belongs to the mononuclear phagocyte system.
