The top spindle, end coupling and slipper metal are the important components of the hot rolling process and used for transmission of rotational power. In this study, the derivation of load condition is conducted for hot rolling process under slipper metal combination types and operation situations. The structural analysis is performed by applying mechanical characteristics, combination type, and rotational boundary condition of the top spindle, end coupling and slipper metal. The stress concentration of mill is analyzed. Optimal design is performed for contact surface between end coupling and slipper metal.

A paleomagnetic study has been carried out for the Cretaceous Gusandong Tuff (Kusandong Tuff) which is known as a representative key bed in the Gyeongsang Basin. The Gusandong Tuff distributed from the Miryang block to the Uiseong block, intercalated in the upper part of the Hayang Group. A total of 496 independently oriented core specimens were collected from 27 sites, covering the MD (Massive Division) and BLD (Basal Layered Division) of the Southern Gusandong Tuff (SKT) and the MD of the Northern Gusandong Tuff (NKT). The main magnetic minerals in the Gusandong Tuff are magnetite and hematite based on the measurements of magnitude of bulk susceptibility, high-temperature susceptibility variation, isothermal remanent magnetization experiments, and EPMA observation. A number of 187 ChRMs have been isolated from 19 sites by thermal and alternating field demagnetization (354 specimens). Formation mean direction of SKT is D=27.7°, I=59.7° (α95=2.3°, k=313.0, 13 sites) and that of NKT is D=29.1°, I=60.2° (α95=5.4°, k=156.6, 6 sites) after tilt correction. Results of the conventional fold test, stepwise unfolding test, and fold test using eigenvalues by bootstrap method supported unanimously that both the NKT and SKT retained a primary remanent magnetization. Mean ChRM directions from the MD and BLD in the SKT are not distinguished from each other at the 95% confidence level. Also, the mean directions of the SKT and NKT are not distinguished. In addition, the two overall mean directions of the Gusandong Tuff in the Miryang Block and Uiseong Block, respectively, are not different from each other at 95% confidence level. These indicate that two blocks have experienced little mutual vertical-axis block rotation since the sedimentation of the Gusandong Tuff of 96 ~ 97 Ma radiometric age. The mean ChRM direction of the whole Gusandong Tuff is D=28.1°, I=59.9° (α95=2.1°, k=254.5), and corresponding paleopole position is 196.2°E, 67.3°N (K=139.6, A95=2.9°). These are compatible with the previous paleomagnetic results from the Chunsan (Jindong) Formation above, and the Sagok (Haman) Formation below the Gusandong Tuff. Therefore, we suggest that the paleopole position obtained in this study be used as a reference paleopole of Korean peninsula for 96 ~ 97 Ma (Cenomanian) time.

Harlequin ichthyosis , which is one of lamellar ichthyosis, is a severe and fatal congenital keratinization disorder with autosomal recessive inheritance. The cause of this disorder is not clear but related to transglutaminase-1 gene mutation. It is characterized by an extremely thickened keratin layer of skin, flattened ears and diffuse platelike scales. Pathologic findings include prominent hyperkeratosis and severe acanthosis. Prenatal sonographic diagnosis has been described, with findings of a persistently open mouth, echogenic amnionic fluid and fixed flexion of the extremities. We experienced a case of Harlequin infant who showed typical clinical and pathologic findings but non-specific antenatal studies performed in other hospital. We report the case of Harlequin ichthyosis with a brief review of the literature.
