Acquired pigmentary skin diseases such as abnormal melanogenesis, vitiligo, chloasma and inflammatory pigmentation are related to regulate the melanin production. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Codonopsis lanceolata on the melanogenesis of HM3KO human melanoma cells biologically. The cells were treated for 5 days with Codonopsis lanceolata at several concentrations. Treatment with Codonopsis lanceolata suppressed melanin contents as a dose dependent manner without cytotoxicity and morphological change. And the extract of Codonopsis lanceolata also inhibited tyrosinase, a key enzyme forming melanin, in a dose-dependent manner. And it did not affect the DOPAchrome tautomerase(TRP-2) activity. These results suggest that Codonopsis lanceolata is a candidate for an efficient whitening agent which supresses melanogenesis by a Raper-Mason pathway.

Cryopreservation is able to store the surplus pre-embryos for freezing and furthermore thawing and transfer in a subsequent cycle. Cryopreserving cells which are maintaining their viability are the very complex process. This study has been carried out in order to find the effects of cryopreservation steps, freezing media and embryonic stages on the rates of viability and development of cryopreserved mouse embryos. Female ICR mice ($6{\sim}8$ weeks old) were induced to superovulate by sequential intraperitoneal injection of 5 IU PMSG and 5 IU hCG 48h apart. Mouse embryos were collected according to its developmental stage after the injection of hCG. Embryos were cryopreserved not only by cryoprotectant step (1 step${\sim}$4 step) but also in a variety of media (HTF, IVF medium, D-PBS) and cell stage. The results were as follows: There is no clear advantage in these freezing media of rapid method, but 4 cell and 8 cell of slow method (2, 3, 4 step) have advantage in D-PBS. The development of embryos according to cell stage become greater in 8 cell stage. In the treatment steps of cryopreservation, the development of embryo to blastocyst was similar among rapid method, but the development of 4 cell and 8 cell embryos to blastocyst according to slow method was better than rapid method.
자외선이 조사된 HM3KO세포의 멜라닌과 nitric oxide 생성에 대한 rutin의 효과

자외선은 사람 피부에서 멜라닌 생성을 촉진시키는 가장 주요한 요인으로 알려져 있으며, 최근 ultraviolet B (UVB)에 의한 피부 색소침착에 nitric oxide (NO)가 관여하고 있다고 보고되었다. Rutin은 야채나 과일 등의 식물체에 널리 분포된 flavonoid로서, 항바이러스, 항산화효과가 보고되어 본 연구에서 UVB-유도 멜라닌 생성과 NO 생성에 대한 rutin의 효과를 조사하였다. UVB 조사에 의하여 HM3KO세포에서 멜라닌양과 멜라닌 생성에 관련된 tyrosinase 효소의 활성이 증가되었고, rutin은 UVB에 의해 증가된 멜라닌과 tyrosinase 활성을 농도 의존적으로 억제하였다. 이와 더불어 UVB 조사에 의하여 HM3KO세포에서 NO 생성이 증가되었으며, rutin은 농도 의존적으로 이를 억제하였고, UVB에 의해 감소된 세포증식을 회복시켰다. 또한 exogenous NO donor (sodium nitroprusside, SNP)에 의해서도 HM3KO세포의 멜라닌 생성이 증가되었으며, rutin은 효과적으로 이를 억제하였다. 이상의 결과 rutin은 UVB 조사에 의하여 촉진된 멜라닌 생성을 억제하였으며, 이는 rutin이 UVB에 의해 증가된 NO 생 성을 억제함으로서 부분적으로 멜라닌 생성조절에 관여할 것으로 생각된다. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the main physiological stimulus for human skin pigmentation. Recently, nitric oxide (NO) have been involved in mediation of skin pigmentation induced by UVB. Rutin, a flavonoid of vegetables and fruits, has antiviral and antioxidant properties. Therefore, we investigated the effect of rutin on UVB-induced melanogenesis and NO production in HM3KO cells. In this study, we demonstrated that UVB-irradiation stimulated melanin content and tyrosinase activity in HM3KO cells. Rutin suppressed UVB-stimulated total melanin content and tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, we showed that UVB-irradiation stimulated NO production in HM3KO cells. Rutin also suppressed UVB-induced NO production and repaired reduction of cell proliferation by UVB. UVB stimulation of melanogenesis was mimicked by exogenous NO donor (sodium nitroprusside, SNP), and rutin effectively suppressed it. Therefore, we concluded that rutin suppressed UVB-stimulated melanogenesis and that it is involved in melanogenesis regulation partially through the suppression of UVB-induced NO production.

We have plenty of study of adults diseases, but not much has been said about children. 79 children who had visited in the weak children of Dongeui Oriental Medical Hospital from March, 2002 to October, 2002, were the respondents of the Weak Child Questionnaire. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Their symptoms have been observed with sequences of respiratory diseases, Digestive diseases, Psycho-neurological diseases. 2. Distribution of sex and ages : male 38 cases, female 41 cases. $0{\sim}6$ years 60 cases, $7{\sim}12$ years 17 cases, $13{\sim}18$ years 2 cases. 3. The texture of complexion was resulted in face color and the region of the face : whitish-2/ cases. yellowish-27 cases, darkish-22 cases, blue-2 cases, flushed face-l case. Sangeun(山根)-blue : 59 cases, a lower eyelid- dark or light brown : 54 cases. the rests of color on face region didn't mean. 4. The texture of tongue was ended in tongue state : tongue form-not plump not haggard patten(57 cases), a pricky patten(12), a map patten(7), a fissured patten(3). tongue color- pink (57 cases), red(16), light white(6). coating color- thin white(61 cases), thin yellow(l0), lack(6), deep and white(2). tongue coating substance-thin(72 cases), moisten(5), dry(1), deep(1).

A clinical observation by the tongue change as a diagnostic method was made on 36 week children visited to Dongeui Oriental Medical Hospital from August. 2001 to December 2001 and the observed results were summarized as follows. 1. Their symptoms have been observed with sequences of Resparatory diseases, Digestive, Neuromotor, Psycho-neurological, Urogenital diseases 2. Distribution of sex : male 22 cases, female 14 cases 3. Distribution of age : 0-6 years 24 cases, 7-18 years 12 cases 4. The texture of tongue was resulted in tongue color in pink-28 cases, red-8 case, and shape in thin-18 cases, swelling-6 cases, a fissured patten-5 cases, a prickly patten-4 cases, and a map patten-3 cases, and fur of the tongue in thin-26 cases, moisten-8 cases, deep-2 cases, and coating color of the tongue in thin and whitish-15 cases, thin and yellowish-9 cases, lack-8 cases, deep and whitish-4 cases. 5. The texture of tongue in connection with weak children was come out mostly normal state and the rest red color, a fissured patten, a prickly patten, deep coating, thin and yellowish etc appeared to cause of slight damage due to exogenous pathogenic fators and due to internal injury.
소양증(瘙痒症)의 침구치료(鍼灸治療)에 관한 고찰(考察)

Objective: The purpose of this study is to review the acupuncture therapy and moxibustion on itching Method: We searched and reviewed chinese journals of and books of the acupuncture therapy and moxibustion on itching. Results & Conclusions: 1. Dermatopathy of itching is described as eczema, neurotic-dermititis, itching in oriental medical text. 2. According to text, itching causes were wind symptom produced by deficiency of blood, deficiency syndrom of the spleen, and damp-heat. 3. Frequently used acupoints were LI10(41 frequency), SP10(29), ST36(27), SP6(22), GB20(19), Asi point(18), BL(17), back Su acupoints(13), LI4(13), SP9(10), PC6(7), HT7(7). etc. 4. The practice of acupuncture was used by body acupuncture, auriculo-theraphy, loss of bleeding with needle, blum-blosson needle, dermal needle, fire needle. etc. 5. Moxibustions are mild moxibustion, non-scar producing moxibustion, herb- moxibustion. etc.

목적: 자궁근종은 자궁 및 자궁부속기에서 발생하는 종양 가운데 가장 흔한 양성질환이다. 최근 5년 동안 전북대학교 병원에 내원한 사이의 부인과 환자 중에 자궁근종으로 진단된 3,259명을 대상으로 자궁근종의 최근 발생율과 진단, 치료 방법, 예후에 관한 임상적 고찰을 통해 자궁근종의 특성을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 방법: 1998년 1월 1일부터 2002년 12월 31일까지 기간동안 전북대학교병원 산부인과에 내원한 환자 중에서 자궁근종으로 진단받은 환자 From January 1998 to December 2002, 3,259 cases of uterine myoma were treated at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chunbuk National University Hospital. A clinico-stastical study of uterine myoma was perfomed to analyse the clinical characteris
