‘표준’, ‘일반적인’ 것을 의미하는 ‘Norm’과 ‘핵심의’, ‘절대적인’의 ‘Hardcore’가 합쳐진 놈코어(Normcore)는 2014년 영국 옥스퍼드 사전에 신조어로 등재되었으며, 2015년 7월 초를 기준으로 구글에서 80만 개가 검색되는 새로운 트렌드로 공식 자리매김 하였다. 각박하고 치열한 산업사회에서 마음의 안정과 평화로운 삶을 추구하는 현대인에게 놈코어 트렌드는 자연스럽게 자리 잡았고, 소박한 일상의 경험으로 소비 가치를 변화시켰다. 놈코어 문화로 대변될 수 있는 새로운 트렌드는 라이프스타일 잡지에도 영향을 미치며 잡지 디자인의 새로운 시각적 흐름을 형성하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 최근 대두되고 있는 놈코어의 개념과 문화 전반에 나타난 놈코어 트렌드를 이론적으로 고찰하고, 기존의 라이프스타일 잡지와 놈코어 트렌드와 밀접한 관련이 있는 2010년 이후 창간된 잡지를 비교 연구하여 시각 표현의 특징을 밝히는데 의미가 있다. 먼저 잡지의 콘텐츠 분석을 통하여 놈코어 콘텐츠를 담고 있는 잡지를 시각 분석 대상으로 선별하였다. 연구 대상은 「킨포크」, 「시리얼」, 「어라운드」, 「컨셉진」 총 4종의 잡지로, 표본 비교조사와 설문조사를 통해 잡지의 시각 정체성을 구축하는 조형 요소별 특징을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 놈코어 잡지의 시각표현 특징은 중립적인 톤 앤 매너, 현대적이고 간결한 타이포그래피의 활용, 여백의 활용을 극대화하는 특징이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 사회문화 현상 중 하나인 놈코어 트렌드의 특징이 잡지 디자인의 시각적 표현에도 드러나고 있음을 밝히고, 기존의 라이프스타일 잡지와 다른 새로운 시각적 흐름의 라이프스타일 잡지의 형성을 확인해 볼 수 있었다. Normcore, a coined term from norm which refers to ‘standard’ or ‘common’ thing and hardcore which refers to ‘core’ or ‘ultimate’, was registered as a new coined term in Oxford dictionary of the United Kingdom in 2014. It was also officially positioned as a new trend, given that 800,000 results were searched in Google in early July, 2015. In the industrial society with harshness and difficulties, normcore trend have naturally become common for the people who pursue the peace of mind and relaxed life, changing the values of consume into the experiences of plain life. The new trend represented as normcore culture affect lifestyle magazines to construct the new visual trends of magazine design. Therefore, this study theoretically explored the normcore trend appeared in the general culture and the concept of normcore emerging recently. The implication of this study is to investigate the characteristics of visual expression by making comparative analysis between the existing magazines and the magazines with the normcore trend-related magazines published after 2010. Above all, the magazines with normcore contents were selected as the targets of visual analysis through content analysis of the magazines. The research targets were total 4 magazines including <Kinfolk>, <Cereal>, <Around>, <Conceptzine>. The features per figurative elements to construct the visual identities of the magazine were analyzed. According to the results, the features of visual expression of normcore magazines were the neutral tone and manner, the modern and simple use of typography, and the feature to maximize the utilization of margin. This study could identify that the characteristics of normcore trend which is one of the socio-cultural phenomenon is also appeared in the visual expression, confirming the construction of lifestyle magazine with new visual trend differentiated from the existing lifestyle magazines.

국내 문화예술 포스터의 한글 레터링 시각적 특징 분석 - 서울 소재의 박물관, 미술관, 문예회관의 2010년~2015년 포스터를 중심으로-

1980년대 컴퓨터의 대중화와 디지털 폰트의 개발로 한글 레터링에 대한 관심은 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 하지만, 2000년대부터 캘리그라피와 한글 레터링에 대한 대중적인 관심이 높아지면서 다양한 매체에 다시 등장하기 시작하였다. 특히 본고는 문화예술 포스터의 타이틀의 경우 한글 레터링을 빈번히 사용하고 있으며, 시대성을 빠르게 반영하는 매체의 성격상 레터링 표현 역시 다양하게 시도되는 점에 주목하였다. 따라서, 본 연구는 한글 레터링의 개념과 시대적 흐름을 이론적으로 고찰하고, 국내 문화예술 포스터에 나타난 한글 레터링의 조형적 분석을 통해 시각적 특징을 밝히고자 한다. 연구 대상인 국내 문화예술 포스터는 서울 소재의 연 관람인원 100,000명 이상인 박물관, 미술관, 문예회관으로 한정하였으며, 2010년부터 2015년까지 5년 동안 열린 공연, 전시 포스터의 한글 레터링을 분석하였다. 한글 레터링 분석을 위해 글자 표현 유형을 부리형, 민부리형, 구상적 장식형, 비구상적 장식형, 복합 유형으로 분류하여 한글 레터링 사용 면적 비율, 포스터에 사용된 이미지를 분석하고, SD조사연구방법을 활용한 설문조사를 통해 시각적 특징을 도출하였다. 연구 결과, 2011년을 제외한 2010년부터 2015년까지 국내 문화예술 포스터의 한글 레터링의 활용이 꾸준히 증가하며, 구상적·비구상적 장식형의 증가와 복합 유형이 새롭게 등장한 것을 알수 있었다. 또한, 구상적·비구상적 장식형, 복합 유형은 사진, 일러스트레이션, 전시 이미지 보다 문자를 주된 시각 요소로 적극 활용하는 경향을 보였으며, 이는 한글 레터링이 타이틀로서의 정보 전달 기능뿐 아니라, 포스터의 주요 시각 요소로 사용되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 복합 유형은 2011년 이후 사용이 빈번해졌으며, 한글 레터링을 전면적으로 활용하는 특징이 두드러졌다. 이는 최근 국내 문화예술 포스터에 나타난 한글 레터링 활용의 큰 변화로 볼 수 있다. 연구 주제인 한글 레터링의 조형적 분석은 다양하고 복합적인 표현 방법이 어우러진 특징으로 인해 세분화된 분류와 분석의 한계점이 다소 있었다. 하지만, 한글 레터링이 증가하고 있는 현 시점에서 해당 활용 분야와 흐름을 살펴보는데 의미가 있으며, 향후 조형적 측면의 한글 레터링 연구의 기초 자료로 활용되어지길 기대할 수 있을 것이다. As the development of the digital font and the popularization of the computer in 1980s, the concern for the Hangeul lettering declined. However, as the public concern for the calligraphy and Hangeul lettering heightened in 2000s, it began coming on the scene again through various media. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to consider the concept and the time flow of the Hangeul lettering theoretically and determine visual feature through the formative analysis of the Koran lettering appearing in the domestic culture art posters. The letter expression type was classified into the serif type, sans serif type, objective decoration type, non-objective decoration type, and complex type for the Hangeul lettering analysis. As a result of study, it was confirmed the use of the Hangeul lettering of the domestic culture art poster increased steadily from 2010 to 2015 except for 2011, and the objective/non-objective decoration types increased and the complex type appeared newly. Also, these types displayed a tendency of using the letter actively as the main visual element, from which it was confirmed the Hangeul lettering was being used as the main visual elements of the poster. In the formative analysis of the Hangeul lettering, a study theme, there was a limit of the subdivided classification and analysis due to the feature that various and complex expression ways were in harmony. However, this study is meaningful in examining the use field and flow of the Hangeul lettering at this point in time that the Hangeul lettering is increasing, and it is expected to be used as the basic data of the Hangeul lettering research of the formative aspect in the future.
