Sliding Mode Control for Wheel Slide Protection in Railway Vehicles with Pneumatic Brake Systems
이남진,강철구 한국정밀공학회 2017 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.18 No.3
Railway vehicles are the most commonly used means of public transportation systems, and therefore, it is essential to ensure their safe operation. To ensure reliable brake performance even on impaired tracks, a wheel slide protection device (WSP) is fitted to the brake system to prevent the wheels from locking and thus reduce excessive sliding. In this study, a sliding mode control (SMC) algorithm for a pneumatic brake system is proposed. The proposed algorithm basically conforms to SMC theory and the sampling time is divided into three sections, namely, the command section, response section, and monitoring section. The SMC determines the duty time for the WSP valve command, operates on a limited command section, and then waits for the brake state to stabilize through the response section. The benefits of this control strategy are that it can use a simplified mathematical model of a pneumatic valve on the model-based SMC and modify the continuous command type for the WSP valve instead of a discrete mode command. The proposed algorithm was verified through experiments with a brake hardware-in-the-loop simulation system for a railway vehicle.

The superconducting properties of several HTS coated conductors (CC), which had different tape structures, fabricated by KERI, X and Y institutes were compared. We have fabricated the high-Jc SmBCO CC, which has 273.5 A/cm, 1.2 MA/cm2 and 93.5 K for Ic, Jc and Tc-zero, respectively, using the EDDC (Evaporation using Drum in Dual Chambers) process. Both X and Y institutes CCs, however, were purchased. The n-values of KERI, X and Y institutes CCs are 58.5, 40.7 and 31.5 in V = 1 ~ 10 μV criterion, respectively. The in-field properties of Ic at 77 K were investigated and the Jc(B)/Jc(0G) at 0.5 T with B⊥ab-plane are 0.31, 0.19 and 0.24 for KERI, X and Y institutes CCs, respectively. From the Ic-θ-B measurement, we observed that the ab-plane of ReBCO phase was tilted for the ab-plane of substrate in the KERI and X institutes CCs. The tilted angle is about 5 degree. We confirmed that the peak shift (as an inclined texture) was observed by X-ray (102) pole figures of the SmBCO for the KERI CC.

Purpose: Stroke is a time-sensitive disease that could have reduced complications and mortality with timely diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to analyze the causes of delay in detecting the clinical signs and symptoms of stroke. Methods: This retrospective observational study analyzed the emergency medical services reports of suspected stroke patients with positive predictive values on the Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale. The study was conducted in Daejeon, Republic of Korea from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2017. Results: Prolonged prehospital time was associated with high blood pressure, history of cerebrovascular disease, and incidences during daily activities, and sleep. High blood pressure and complications from a previous stroke strongly associated with the prolonged stroke-detection phase (p<.05). Total prehospital time was shortened when patients had evident stroke symptoms, such as decreased level of consciousness, dysarthria, and hemiplegia (p<.05). There was no significant difference in gender or age as a factor that delayed the total prehospital time of the suspected stroke patients. Conclusion: Many patients did not recognize the early clinical symptoms and signs of a stroke. Furthermore, risk factors, such as high blood pressure and history of stroke, prolonged the total prehospital time. Therefore, we need targeted interventions that educate about warning symptoms of stroke, along with emphasis on the importance of emergency calls to substantially reduce the prehospital delays.

The drawing and specifications for realizing an architectural design require care so that no data would be missed and so that equality can be maintained between the design and specifications or material bills. Still, drawing and specification errors occur for various reasons, including incomplete discussion between the designers of each section, the designer's lack of construction experience, and insufficient review of the interface by each work section. These design errors are the main reasons for the need to redesign at the construction stage and raise problems for various participants in the construction project. Despite the foregoing, the detailed tool for reviewing the design, specifications, and material bills before the construction stage is insufficient, and even the design checklists from large design companies lacks details for proper utilization. Thus, this study was conducted to develop a drawing and specification checklist to prevent design errors in public construction projects and to provide peer review of the design, specifications, material bills, and screen design errors in the finished work for building construction projects with frequent mistakes.
