        The Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) is a successful mass transportation system, that is being, continuously, on demand by train operators and railway authorities around the globe. One of its advantages is the fact that a diesel engine, along with the correct propulsion and control equipment, could also be used on either Electrified or Non-Electrified Railway Lines. Currently, there are almost 12,000 DM Units being used worldwide and the demand is on the increase. This paper describes the special features as well as the advantages/disadvantages of the different types of the DMUs according to the propulsion systems that are employed, to help establish a trend in the DMU market.

      • 철도차량 객차의 제동성능 계산에 대한 방법 연구 (Calculating Braking Performance for Coaches)

        Braking performance of a trainset that consists of a locomotive and several coaches and/or wagons is influenced by that of the locomotive as well as each coach or wagon. For trains to safely travel on a railway, trains must be provided with sufficient distance where to stop. Thus, replacing coaches or wagons needs calculating, measuring the braking performance such as a stopping distance or a deceleration. The task is further complicated if there are many kinds of trains with different braking performance characteristics. The accurate calculation is subject to acquire accurate information on the existing cars. Moreover, the initiation of braking by a driver or the geometry of the track affects as complicated factors. In this paper, based on the braking performance test conducted for US-SCRRA coaches, introduced several factors assumed to influence the result and the compensating methodology.

        비상 제동 보증 감속도(Guaranteed Emergency Brake Rate)는 철도 차량의 신뢰성을 확보하기 위한 주요한 요소이며 신호 시스템의 발전 및 무인 운전 차량의 증가와 더불어 그 중요성이 크게 대두 되고 있다. 즉 비상 제동 보증 감속도는 기본적인 차량의 안전성 확보뿐 아니라 신호 시스템의 건설 비용 및 열차의 운행 회수를 결정하는 주요한 요소이며 경쟁력이 있는 대중 교통 시스템이 되기 위한 필수 요소이다. 이에 비상 제동 보증 감속도의 개념이 적용 된 제동 시스템의 국내,외 사례를 바탕으로 각 시스템의 구현 방식 및 장,단점을 고찰해 보고자 한다. The performance of rolling stock is decided by various factors such as propulsion, signal and interior design but the reliability of brake system is one of the important factor to ensure safety of train operating system. Moreover, the guarantee of brake rate in worst condition is basic requirement according to the development of signal system and increasing of driverless vehicle. It (Guaranteed Emergency Brake Rate) also related with cost of whole train operation system, including construction and maintenance cost. Therefore, this paper describe design of brake system considering GEBR as well as the advantages / disadvantages of different type of the brake system which is achieved required GEBR.

        The manual brake device which was comprised of wood block and lever for pushing wood block was used for the first time in the mine zone of 14th century in Germany. The theory of triple valve which was developed for automatic air brake system in 19th century by George Weistinghouse is used generally until now. The air brake system installed in Electric Multiple Unit is developed to compact and modular design and this have been considered to chief element proves the technology of the railroad vehicle. This paper describes the tendencies of Air supply system, Break control system and Bogie break equipment which are major points of the air brake system of EMU

      • UIC541-05기준의 활주 장치 시험 전동차(METRO) 적용 방법 고찰

        철도 차량에 적용 된 활주제어 (Wheel Slide Protection) 장치는 차륜과 레일의 점착력 저하로 인해 차륜의 미끄러짐(Slide)이 발생 할 경우 현재의 점착 한도 내에서 최대한의 제동력을 발휘하기 위해 제동의 완해 및 체결을 반복하는 장치이며 이로써 차량의 제동 거리를 최대한 단축하고 차륜의 손상을 방지 할 수 있다. UIC 541-05는 이러한 WSP시스템의 시험 방법 및 기준에 대해 상세하게 서술 하고 있으나 UIC 규격의 근본이 유럽의 각 국가를 연결하는 차량에 대한 표준 제정에 있음으로 특정한 도시 내 운행을 목적으로 하는 전동차(METRO)에 이러한 기준을 그대로 적용하는 것은 한계가 있다.(예를 들어 UIC 541-05기준의 WSP 시스템 시험을 위해서는 최소 120kph의 초기 속도가 필요하다.) 따라서 본 논문은 UIC 541-05에서 규정하는 WSP 시험의 상세 조건을 전동차에 맞게 재 해석하여 전동차의 WSP 성능을 입증하는 방법을 고찰하는데 있다. The Wheel Slide Protection device(WSP) is one of the major equipment in the brake system to minimize braking distance and damage of wheel under worst condition, such as, inclement weather condition. That is, a WSP device is activated by adhesive level between wheel and rail and it will prevent locking of wheel. UIC 541-05 describe WSP test procedure and criteria in detail but it can not apply for METRO train directly. This paper investigate WSP test for METRO train according to the UIC 541-05 to verify performance of WSP device and reviewed method is applied to the current designing vehicle.

        The optimal braking control system is determined according to the required operating condition, for example brake rate. On that reason each train has its own various special features. This paper describes a study on the Brake Control System of Canada RAV Rapid Transit which also has various special features, to help comprehensive concept of brake control system including Cross Brake Control System and Guaranteed Emergency Brake Rate.

        볶음 처리한 옻나무 열수추출물의 항산화성 및 암세포 성장억제효과

        옻나무의 속과 껍질부분을 분리해 170, 200, 220℃로 온도를 달리하여 볶은 후 100℃에서 열수 추출하여 얻은 추출물의 과산화지질생성 억제능, DPPH 유리라디칼 소거능 및 4종류의 인체유래의 암세포 즉 간암세포 HepG2, 위암세포 SNU-1, 유방암세포 MCF-7 및 대장암세포 WiDr에 대한 성장저지효과를 알아보았다. 저농도보다 고농도에서, 속보다 껍질부분이, 170~200℃범위로 볶음처리를 한 시료의 과산화지질생성 억제능, 유리라디칼 소거능 및 암세포의 성장 저지효과가 높았다. 가장 높은 과산화지질생성 억제능은 200℃에서 볶은 속과 껍질추출물을 500 ㎍/mL의 농도로 첨가 시 50.9, 56.5%였고, 유리라디칼 소거능은 각각 200, 170℃에서 볶은 속과 껍질추출물을 500 ㎍/mL의 농도로 첨가 시 79.0, 78.4%였다. 또한 암세포 생존율은 1,000 ㎍/mL의 농도로 첨가 시 가장 낮았는데 속과 껍질추출물 첨가군의 생존율은 WiDr세포가 170℃에서 볶음처리 시 41.5, 36.0%로 가장 낮았고, 다음은 HepG2세포로 200℃에서 볶음처리 시 61.5, 44.3%, 이어서 MCF-7세포가 170℃에서 볶음처리 시 92.0, 69.2%였으며, SNU-1세포는 볶음처리와 상관없이 100, 100%의 순으로 높아 특히 WiDr세포에 대한 성장저지효과가 현저하게 높음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 WiDr세포에 대해서는 1,000 ㎍/mL의 농도에서 볶음처리를 하지 않은 속과 껍질추출물에서도 63.9, 56.8%의 낮은 생존율을 보여 옻나무는 사용한 암세포 중 대장암세포에서 강한 암세포성장 저지활성을 나타내었다. The inhibitory effects of hot water extracts of Rhus verniciflua Stokes pith and peel roasted at 170, 200 and 220℃ on lipid peroxidation, formation of DPPH free radicals and growth of four human cancer cells such as HepG2 (liver cancer), SNU-1 (stomach cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer) and Widr (colon cancer) were examined. The antioxidant activities and growth inhibitory effects on cancer cells of hot water extracts of peel were higher than those of pith, and the activities were dose-dependent. The roasting temperature showing the highest antioxidant activities and growth inhibitory effects on cancer cells was in the range of 170~200℃. The lipid peroxidation and formation of DPPH free radicals of hot water extracts of roasted pith and peel were inhibited to 50.9, 56.5% and 79.0, 78.4% at the concentration of 500 ㎍/mL, respectively. The growth inhibitory effects of roasted pith and peel on cancer cells were in the order of Widr (41.5, 36.0%)>HepG2 (61.5, 44.0%)>MCF-7 (92.0, 69.2%)>SNU-1 (100, 100%) cells at the concentration of 1,000 ㎍/mL as compared with the control, respectively. These results suggest that roasted Rhus verniciflua Stokes could be an useful natural medicinal plant for colon cancer.

        프로톤 펌프 억제제 종류에 따른 비궤양성 소화불량증 환자와 소화성 궤양 환자의 Helicobacter pylori 제균율 비교

        Background/Aims: Conflicting results have been reported whether patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD) respond differently to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication treatment compared with patients with peptic ulcer diseases (PUD). The aim of this study was to evaluate any difference in H. pylori eradication rates between patients with NUD and PUD according to each proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Methods: From September, 2004 to April, 2007, we retrospectively reviewed 2,297 patients with NUD (1,050 patients) or PUD (1,247 patients) infected with H. pylori. All patients received a standard 1 week triple therapy comprising of one of the five PPIs (pantoprazole, esomeprazole, omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole), clarithromycin and amoxicillin. The follow-up H. pylori test was performed 4 weeks after the completion of therapy. Results: There was no significant difference in the eradication rates between the two groups. In comparison of eradication rates according to PPI, omeprazolebased triple therapy group showed higher eradication rate than other groups in patients with NUD, but not in patients with PUD. Conclusions: This study failed to show any difference in H. pylori eradication rate between patients with NUD and PUD. There is no convincing evidence that the eradication rate may be affected by different PPI. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2008;52:80-85)

        사료내 β-glucanase활성 강화 고역가 복합효소제 첨가급여가 착유우의 유생산 및 체세포수 변화에 미치는 영향

        In recent years, many researches are actively undertaken for environmental-friendly animal production according to the increased understanding about food safety because of the outbreak of various diseases such as mad cow disease, Foot and mouth disease and Poultry Influenza virus. However, high quality(higher safety)- animal production may not be successful without increasing of disease resistance of animal and the improvement of feeding environment. To increase the disease resistance is able to be accomplished by stimulating the immune function. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of enzyme mixture reinforced with β-glucanase activity which degrade polysaccharide to release β-glucan known as stimulator of immune function on the change of milk production and somatic cell count. After 12weeks of experimental feeding, milk production tended to be increased and somatic cell count was decreased from average 227×10<sup>4</sup> to 37.1×10<sup>4</sup>. Milk protein and solid-fat content were tended to increase but milk fat showed decreasing tendency by the feeding of enzyme mixture. All together, it has been suggested that the improvement of high quality milk production may be possible through the dietary addition of immune modulating enzyme mixture in lactating dairy cows.
