The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 8-week endurance exercises on SOD and MDA of the heart tissue in aging rats. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned into three groups: Baseline Group(n=10), Control Group(n=10), and Exercise Group(n=10). The rats were provided with the same environment. The Exercise Group was consisted of running on a for 8 weeks for 30min once a day, at a speed of 5m/min for the first 5min, main exercise at a speed of 20m/min for the next 20min, then at a speed 5m/min for the last 5min, 0% grade, 5days per weeks. Following 8 weeks, the heart tissue of rats were analyzed to determine the change of SOD and MDA activities. Statistical techniques for data analysis were one-way ANOVA to determine the difference among groups. The 5% level of significance was used as the critical level for acceptance of hypotheses for the study. The analysis of data revealed the following findings. There was significant difference in SOD between Group(p<.05). The results of post hoc test, SOD activities in exercise group following 8 weeks endurance exercise were significantly increased than baseline and control group. There was significant difference in MDA between group(p<.05). The results of post hoc test, MDA in control group were significantly increased than baseline group and exercise group. These results indicated that endurance exercise following 8 weeks does provide an positive effects on SOD and MDA activities in aged-rats.
암에르고미터 운동시 비만 남자중학생의 심폐기능과 상지근 피로도 반응

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the cardiorespiratory function and upper body muscle fatigue in obese middle-school students, and to compare these variables with normal weight students. Six obese middle-school group (mean±SD, age; 14.0±63yrs, body fat; 9.9±2.3) and six control group(mean±SD, age; 14.3±51yrs, body fat; 25.1±4.5) were participated in this study. All subjects completed 2-min stage graded maximal arm cycle ergometer exercise, with exercise intensity increased 10watts every 2 minutes. During this test, cardiorespiratory function (exercise time, peak V O_(2), peak herat rate, ventilation threshold) and muscle fatigue (MPF) from trieps brachii and pertoralis major were analyzed by auto gas analyzer and ENG respectively. An alpha level of .05 was used as the criteria for significance. The following results were observed. 1. Exercise time was significantly higher in obese group than control group. 2. There was no significant difference between two groups over the mean values of peak V O_(2), 3. Peak heart rate was significantly higher in obese group than control group. 4. There was no significant difference between two groups over the mean values of V O_(2) at ventilation threshold (VT). 5. Muscle fatigue (MPF) from triceps brachii and pectoralis major was significantly higher in obese group control group. In conclusion, these results are showing that the cardiorespiratory response during an arm cycling exercise is not different between obese middle-school group and normal weight group, but the muscle fatigue of triceps brachii and pectoralis in obese middle-school group was higher than that of normal weight group.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 12-week aerobic exercise on total cholesterol (TC), blood pressure (BP), and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in obese middle aged woman. Twenty five women was finally selected as a subjects for this study because they have no medical problem for exercise and assigned to the control group (n = 13; age 39.21 ± 1.51 years; BMI 30.44 ± 1.13) and the exercise group (n = 12; age 38.78 ± 1.34 years; BMI 31.11 ± 1.45). Mean flow velocity (MFV) of CBF was obtained from the middle cerebral atrery (MCA) using Transcranial Doppler (TCD) and additional parameters like TCD index such as resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI) was calculated from the Doppler wave form. Graded exercise test was performed with modified Bruce protocol using treadmill. Aerobic exercise program consists of 10 min warm-up, 40 min main exercise, and 10 min cool-down and subjects exercised for 60 min a day, 4 times a week throughout 12 weeks with exercise intensity of %HRR 50 in 1 to 4 week, %HRR 60 in 5 to 8 week, and %HRR 70 in 9 to 12 week. Blood sample (5 ml) for total cholesterol was obtained from antecubital vein in all subjects. Statistical analysis was made using two-way repeated ANOVA followed by Sheffe`s Post-hoc analysis and results are expressed as mean ± standard deviation (SD). Differences were considered significant for P < 0.05. The present results showed that 12-week aerobic exercise significantly decreased TC, BP, RI, and PI and increased MFV in the exercise group compared to the control group (P < 0.05). These results suggested that 12-week aerobic exercise is effective for improvement of CBF by reducing BP and TC in obese middle aged woman.

This study was to investigate the effects on hematological indices in various intensity and duration of endurance training. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the control group, the low-intensity training group, the moderate-intensity training group, high-intensity training group, 1-week training group, 2-weeks training group, and 4-weeks training group(n=8 in each group). Animal of the training groups were put on endurance training 30 min per 1 day, 6 days per week for 1, 2, 4-weeks. Red blood cell count(RBC), hemoglobin(Hb), hematocrit(Hct), mean cell volume(MCV), mean hemoglobin corpuscular(MCH), mean hemoglobin corpuscular concentration(MCHC) were analyzed in automated hematology analyzer(ABX Hematology MICROS 60) from 10㎕ of whole blood. In the present results, RBC, Hg, Hct in the high-intensity training group was significantly increased compared with the different training intensity and training duration, in the moderate-intensity training group was significantly increased after 4-week training. In the high-intensity training group had significantly higher MCV than training 1-week and training 2-weeks after. MCH and MCHC in the high-intensity training group was significantly increase compared with the different training intensity and training duration after 1-week training. In the present study, it can be suggested that intensity and duration of endurance training can influence hematological variables. The specific intensity and duration of training are major importance in the adaptations of the blood hematology.

당뇨는 흔히 발생되는 심각한 대사장애로 학습과 기억능력의 감소, 인지능력 감소, 죽상동맥경화증, 고혈압, 뇌졸중과 같은 많은 이차적 합병증과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있다. 산화질소는 산화질소합성효소에 의하여 L-arginine에서 합성되고, 산화질소합성효소 발현의 변화는 당뇨와 관련된 많은 이차적 합병증의 발병과 관련이 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 streptozotocin에 의하여 당뇨가 유발된 흰쥐의 해마에서 산화질소합성효소의 발현에 트레드밀 운동이 미치는 영향을 nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-diaphorase(NADPH-d) 조직화학법을 통하여 관찰하였다. Streptozotocin에 의하여 당뇨가 유발된 흰쥐의 해마에서는 산화질소합성효소의 발현이 유의하게 억제되었고, 트레드밀 운동은 당뇨에 의하여 억제된 해마에서의 산화질소합성효소의 발현을 증가시켰다. 당뇨를 발생시키지 않은 정상군의 경우에는 트레드밀 운동에 의하여 산화질소합성효소의 발현의 변화가 없었다. 따라서 본 연구결과, 트레드밀 운동은 산화질소합성효소의 발현 조절의 통하여 당뇨병 환자의 신경기능 회복과 당뇨에 의해 유발된 중추신경계의 합병증 정도를 완화시키는데 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.

Traumatic brain injury is known to cause severe neurological damage and has a high mortality rate. c-Fos expression is recognized as a marker of increased neuronal activity, however, excessive c-Fos expression represents apoptotic neuronal cell death. In the present study, the effect of swimming exercise on traumatic brain injury-induced c-Fos expression in rats was investigated by c-Fos immunohistochemistry. The rats were divided into 3 groups: the sham-operation group, the traumatic brain injury-induction group, and the traumatic brain injury-induction and swimming exercise group. The animals in the exercise group were forced to swim for 30 min once a day during 14 consecutive days. The present results showed that traumatic brain injury enhanced the number of c-Fos-positive cells in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) and ventrolateral periaqueductal gray (vlPAG) regions and that swimming exercise significantly suppressed the traumatic brain injury-induced c-Fos expression. In the traumatic brain injury rats, swimming exercise exerted inhibitory effect on the c-Fos exepression in the PVN and vlPAG regions. Based on the present results, it can be suggested that swimming exercise has a neuroprotective against traumatic brain injury by suppressing c-Fos expression.
