Smart Window Technologies of Merck based on Liquid Crystals

Modern architecture is all about transparency and light. Pairing the aesthetic qualities of glass with functional shading and energy efficiency, however, is a challenge. Merck is now expanding our expertise in display for such intelligent window systems - Liquid Crystal Windows. Liquid Crystal Windows are switchable glass panes with a liquid crystal layer changing light transmission properties in order to control light and heat intake. Specific liquid crystal mixtures containing dyes act as an interlayer between two glass sheets. These windows allow for atmospheric changes on demand, with extremely fast and continuously switching options, and enhance facade performance in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability by preventing energy loss and controlling solar heat intake with the potential of converting the unused light into electricity. And ultimate design freedom is also one of advantages in terms of applicable shapes or styles and a broad spectrum of color options.
Elastic Stack과 Kafka를 이용한 로그 분석 및 시각화 시스템 설계

IT기술의 발전에 따라 함께 발전하고 있는 사이버 공격으로 인해 기존보다 더 높은 보안성을 요구하고 있는 현 상황에 대응하기 위해 본 논문에서는 Elastic Search 검색 엔진을 활용한 사용자 애플리케이션, Elastic Stack 시스템을 구축한다. Apache Kafka를 통해 Elastic Stack 시스템의 Logstash와 Beat 사이의 임시 버퍼 스트림을 구현함으로써 안정성을 확보하여 웹 서버의 접근 로그를 분석하기 위한 분석환경을 구현하였다. 또한, 이러한 분석환경에 의해 도출된 분석결과를 실시간으로 모니터링하기 위해 Kibana를 활용하여 분석된 데이터를 통계 및 시각화하고 모니터링하기 위한 시각화 관제 시스템을 제안한다.

The dynamic mechanical properties of thermotropic liquid crystalline polyester (LCP) blends with polystyrene (PS) and Li sulfonated polystyrene (PSSLi) were investigated. It was found that PS forms an immiscible blend with LCP. However, above the matrix T_(g) of the PS, the addition of the LCP increases the modulus of the blend significantly because the LCP acts as filler below its T_(g). In PSSLi/LCP blend system, it was also found that, in the temperature range between two T_(g)s of the ionomer, the LCP acts as filler and thus increases the modulus of the blend. However, the filler effect of the LCP on the modulus decreases rapidly with increasing temperature and disappears above the T_(g) of the LCP. Finally, it was suggested that the PSSLi may be partially miscible with the LCP via ion-dipole interactions between a Li^(+) cation of the PSSLi and a carbonyl group of the LCP.
