The marine benthic algae of Gojeong-Ri was investigated in a floristic aspect. As a result, 34 species, 7 blue-green, 14 red, 6 brown and 7 green algae were identified as a summer flora from the area. Among them, Sirocoleum kurzii (blue-green alga), Ralfsia clavata (brown alga), Pseudulvella consociata and Cladophora speciosa (green algae) were known as new records to Korea.
한국산 모자반목 (目) 식물의 지리적 변이체에 대한 생화학적 분류 - 3. 삼차원적 TLC 에 의한 총지질의 (總脂質) 분석

The Fucales plants have very homogenous taxonomic characteristics at order level, but show many morphological varitations at species or subspecies levels. This study is one of the serial works to obtain more taxonomic data than morphotaxonomic ones and to clarify the taxonomic ranks and characteristics of Korean Fucales plants through physiological and biochemical analyses. Total lipid compositions of Korean Fucales plants were analyzed by the 3-dimensional TLC method. Major components of phospholipids(PA, PC, PG, PE, DPG, LPE, LPC), neutral fat TG and sterols were commonly contained in each species. Unknown lipids X1, X2 and X3 were contained in genus Sargassum, but Hizikia was lacking X3 and Myagropsis was lacking both X2 and X3. The latter contained unique X8. From the view-point of the phylogeny of lipid metabolism, Sargassum might be more closely related to Hizikia than to Myagropsis. A variant of S. patens from Seongsan showed minute metabolic difference from that of the typical plant; but a variant of S. serratifolium did not show any significant difference from that of the typical plant.

A three-year study programme has been launched in December 1989 in order to investigate an ecological studies on the biotic communities and the energy flow in the Inchon Dock ecosystem. The purpose of this study is to clarify the water quality and to provide the basic Physicochemical data for the goal mentioned above. The investigation has been carried out monthly during December 1989 to December 1990 in both surface and bottom waters at four stations in this artificial dock. Water temperature ranged from 3.6℃ to 27.7℃, and was entirely under the influence of air temperature. Salinity varied between 20.0-32.8‰, so that the dock water may be influenced by freshwater discharges from Inchon city. Concentration of dissolved oxygen showed 0-9.4㎎/ℓ and biological oxygen demand were 0-8.9㎎O_2/ℓ. The anoxic condition was by a result of red tide caused by phytoplankton community. Nutrients(nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, phosphate and silicate) have increased throughout the year investigated, so that excessing eutrophication induced summer blooming during the study period.

Since some cyanobacterial isolates under selective culturing conditions are lacking of characteristic specialized cells or showing altered morphology, the morpho-taxonomic criteria are not accurate enough to discriminate between species. Instead of morphological parameters, a method based on the single or the combination of repetitive oligonucleotides in a single PCR, repetitive oligonucleotides-primed PCR (ROP-PCR), was applied to generate DNA profiles for members of the cyanobacterial genera Anabaena and Oscillatoria, both of which are responsible for causing poisonous blooms in various freshwater systems. ROP-PCR performed on 10 isolates of the cyanobacteria with ERIC and REP sequences from gram-negative bacteria, STRR1A and LTRR sequences derived from cyanobacterial genome, and eukaryotic repetitive sequences, led to the identification of distinct genotypes, and provided specific and repeatable DNA fingerprints for cyanobacterial isolates. Grouping analysis of cyanobacterial isolates showed a significant difference depending on the primer used in PCR.
