The measured solar radiation incident on tilted surfaces has been widely used as important solar radiation data in installing photovoltaic arrays. To optimize the incident solar radiation, the slope, that is the angle between the plane surface in question and the horizontal, and the solar azimuth angles are needed for these solar photovoltaic systems. This is because the performance of the solar photovoltaic systems is much affected by angle and direction of incident rays. The expert system can predict the optimum installation angle of photovoltaic arrays with those factors.

The photovoltaic(PV) industry has been growing worldwide. Recently, the PV industries not also in the traditional PV advanced countries but also in other countries are rapidly growing. Especially, China has become the largest supplier in the world PV supply side since 2007. Both the world PV supply and demand rose steadily in 2008 like recent bumper years. In 2008, the world solar cell production reached 6.85GW~7.91GW presenting growth of 85% over the previous year. On the demand side, 81 countries contributed to the 5.95GW presenting growth of 110% over the previous year.

청정하고 무한한 신재생에너지원에 대한 연구가 전 세계적으로 활발히 진행되고 있는 가운데 태양광발전(Photovoltaic ; PV) 분야는 일본, 독일을 위시한 유럽, 그리고 미국을 중심으로 활발한 공급과 수요가 이루어지고 있다. 실제로 태양광발전시장을 분석한 결과, 2005년 태양전지의 생산은 전년대비 45%이상의 증가율을 나타내었고, 태양광발전시스템의 설치 부분에서 있어서도 전년대비 약 34%의 증가율을 나타내었다.
