A gait phase detection is a very important function in gait analysis device and the walking assist device. Foot pressure distribution is a common signal which is often used for the detection of the gait phase. A portable device for detecting the gait phase using foot pressure distribution is mainly used to FSR. However, FSR sensor has several drawbacks. Over time, it reduces the measurement range. Drift due to the deformation occurs. Because then the pressure is applied, over time, the possibility of corruption becomes increasingly larger. Therefore, it becomes a problem in practical application of gait analysis portable device and the walking assist device. To solve this problem, we propose a method using a strain gauge. To apply this way, We have defined the relationship between the gait phase and the foot pressure center point. The advantage of this, we designed a gait phase detection algorithm. In order to verify this, We made a Prosthetic leg that is attached a Strain Gauge to ankle. For verifying the algorithm. In the plains and slopes, it was examined the difference between the sensor data. Although there are differences between the data in the plains and the inclination, the pattern did not change significantly. Using this data, detection algorithm was designed, it was confirmed to operate normally.
