An automotive wheel bearing is one of the most important components to guarantee the service life of a passenger car. The endurance life of a bearing is affected by many parameters such as material properties, heat treatment, lubrication conditions, temperature, loading conditions, bearing geometry, internal clearance and so on. Generally, a tapered roller bearing gives longer endurance life than that of an equivalent size ball bearing. Consequently, the application of taper bearing units will be increased for more compact design and extended warranty. In this paper, we derive the relation between loads and deformations of a taper bearing unit. On the basis of that, we calculate the endurance life of the taper bearing unit considering initial axial clearance.

A new concept tractor is developed, which can conduct multi-functional complex tasks such as excavating and working with attached various equipments. A cabin of the agricultural tractor is designed to protect the driver from vibration transmitted due to the irregular ground and overturning of the tractor. In this paper, the dynamic characteristic of the cabin is identified through finite element analysis and effects of configurational parameters are investigated to insure the dynamic stiffness of the cabin.

An axle bearing is one of the most important components to guarantee the service life of a rail vehicle. In order to ensure the stable and reliable bearing life, it is essential to estimate the fatigue life of an axle bearing under the loading conditions. The fatigue life of a bearing is affected by many parameters such as material properties, heat treatment, lubrication conditions, operating temperature, loading conditions, bearing geometry, the internal clearance of bearing, and so on. Because these factors are so complicatedly related with each other, it is very important to investigate the effects of these factors on the axle bearing life. This paper presents the process of estimating the fatigue life of a railroad roller bearing, taking into account geometric parameters of the bearing in the life calculation. On the basis of the process, the effects of bearing geometric parameters on the fatigue life are analyzed using Taguchi method.

Elastomers are extensively used in various machine design application, mainly for vibration/shock/noise control devices. However. there are still a lot of difficulties in designing the elastomeric components applied in complex shapes and under pre-deformed states. One of the most Influential factors related to mechanical properties of elastomers are pre- and dynamic strains. Consequently, a large number of experiments have to be conducted to identify dynamic properties of elastomers considering their combined effects. In this paper, we present an efficient experimental method to identify mechanical properties of elastomers considering effects of pre- and dynamic strains. This method is capable of predicting the dynamic characteristics of elastomers under arbitrary strain states from reduced experimental data.

Periodic structures can be applied as a MEMS(micro-electro-mechanical system) sensor or actuator due to low energy loss and wideband frequency response. The dynamic behavior of a mistuned periodic structure Is dramatically changed from that of a perfectly tuned periodic structure. The effects of mistuning, coupling stiffness, and driving point on the forced vibration responses of a simple periodic structure ate investigate4 through numerical simulations. On the basis of that, one can design effective and reliable MEMS components using periodic structures.
