        The connected components algorithm is one of the techniques used to divide a binary image into regions and to assign unique number into connected regions. In this paper, a fast connected components algorithm based on chain codes is proposed. The algorithm uses look-up table based on parity checking of the contour. We proposed the new look-up table which can separate starting, ending and ignore points. In addition to the algorithm can be applied to extract chain codes form binary images and restore the image form chain codes. Comparison of the proposed method and ones existing method are provided.

        Several experimental studies showed that the application of small amounts of electric current to bone stimulated osteogenesis at the site of the cathode and suggested that electrical currents promote osseointegration around dental implants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of direct microcurrent to endosseous titanium implants placed in bone defects. The right and left 2nd, 3rd and 4th mandibular premolars in ten mongrel dogs (15kg of weight) were extracted. One month later, Ti-machined screw type implants(3.8 mm diameter×8.5 mm length, AVANA�, Ostem) were placed in surgically created circumferential defect area(width 5mm, depth 4mm). The implants were divided into three groups according to the treatment modalities: Control group- implants without electrical stimulation; Experimental group I- implants with allogenic demineralized freeze dried bone grafting and Experimental group Ⅱ- implants allogenic demineralized freeze dried bone grafting and electric stimulation. The animals were sacrificed in the 4th and 8th week after implant placement and un-decalcified specimens were prepared for histological and histometrical evaluation of bone-implant contact ratio (BIC) and bone formation area ratio (BFA) in defect area. Some specimens at 8 weeks after implantation were used for removal torque testing. Histologically, there were connective tissue infiltration in the coronal part of defect area in control and the experimental group I. whereas direct bone contact was found in the experimental group Ⅱ without connective tissue invasion. Average BIC ratios at 4 weeks of healing were 60.1% in the experimental group Ⅱ, 47.4% in the experimental group I and 42.7% in the control. Average BIC ratios at 8 weeks after implantation were 67.6% in the experimental group Ⅱ, 55.9% in the experimental group I and 54,6% in the control. The average BFA ratio was 84.0% in the experimental group Ⅱ, 71.8% in the experimental group I and 58.8% in the control at 4 weeks, and the BFA ratios were 89.6% in the experimental group Ⅱ, 81.4% in the experimental group I and 70.5% in the control at 8 weeks after implantation. The experimental group Ⅱ showed also significantly greater BIC and BFA ratios compared to the control and the experimental group I (p<0.05). The removal torque values at 8 weeks after implantation were 56 Ncm in the experimental group Ⅱ, 49 Ncm in the experimental group I and 43 Ncm in the control. There was a statistically significant difference among 3 groups(p<0.05) . These results suggest that electrical stimulation improve and accelerate bone healing around endosseous titanium implants in bone defect.

      • 너트 및 부분품의 부착 유무 인식을 위한 영상처리 알고리즘

        본 연구에서는 영상처리 알고리즘을 적용하여 자동차 조립부품에서 너트의 부착 유무를 자동으로 감지하는 알고리즘을 연구하였다. 자동차의 주요 부품 중의 하나인 Front Apron에는 18개의 너트가 용접되고 한 개의 부분품이 용접된다. 본 논문은 현장에 설치되는 시스템에 이용되는 너트와 부품의 누락 여부를 자동으로 인식하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 적용되는 순차적인 알고리즘은 영상 분할 및 병합(split and merge)기법으로 배경영상을 먼저 제거하고, 남은 영역에 대해 국부 문턱값(local threshold)을 구해 영역을 이진화 한다. 너무 작은 영역을 제거한 다음 영역의 중심좌표 면적 및 주변길이(perimeter)를 특징벡터로 추출하여 학습데이터 베이스와 정합(matching)을 통해 너트의 누락여부를 인식한다. 제안된 알고리즘을 현장에 설치한 비젼시스템에 적용한 결과 제품의 생산 주기 안에 불량품을 추출할 수 있었다. This paper is proposed an image processing algorithm for inspection of nuts and an accessory attachment in assembly plant of auto components(Fander/Apron). In Fander/ Apron there must be welded 18 nuts and one accessory. We proposed an algorithm for automatic recognition of 18 nuts and an accessory using image processing algorithm. In order to obtain a binary image, gray level image is processed by split an merge method with local threshold, and removed small regions. Centroid coordinates, area and perimeter of segmented regions are used as feature vectors. The proposed algorithm is performed in robot vision system which installed in factory. By the experimental results, the proposed method can be applied to detect substandard article within production intervals.

      • 윤곽추적 영역채색 기법

        A new efficient contour following algorithm for connected-component labeling processing is proposed. The basic idea of the algorithm is that the total number of downward chain codes is the same as one of upward chain codes along the closed contour. If the chain code direction is upward, then region start mark is assigned at the chain code departure pixel and if the chain code is downward, then region end mark is assigned at the chain code arrival pixel. The proposed algorithm extracts directly the contour information from only the current direction information of chain. This makes the algorithm simple and fast and requires less memory with comparison to the conventional algorithms.The proposed contour following algorithm can be applied to the various kind of image processing such as region filling, restoration and region feature extraction.

      • 국부 가중평균 질감단위를 이용한 새로운 질감인식 기법

        In this paper, a new texture feature extraction method for texture image classification is proposed. The proposed method is a modified texture spectrum method. It uses local weighting averaged texture unit, that is, the neighbor pixels are weithted and averaged in 4-direction and the calculated values are compared with center pixel to find texture units. The proposed method has only 81 texture units and these units are really good features for texture classification. The proposed method is applied to vegetable images and Blodatz album images and compared with several conventional methods for the feature extraction time and the recognition rate.
