기계번역 포스트에디팅에 관한 해외 연구 동향

This paper aims to identify the topics and issues for further exploration in machine translation research. In order to provide insights into numerous challenges machine translation poses, this study analyzed a significant number of research papers published aborad and presented fifteen research topics. They include: post-editing productivity, post-editing vs. traditional human translation, post-editing efforts, process-oriented research, correlations between productivity and quality, translation memory vs. machine translation, post-editing rates, design of post-editing interface, variables affecting the quality of machine translation, the impact of linguistic elements of source text, automated machine translation evaluation, role of post-editors, post-editing in translator training, educational academia-industry cooperation. Among them, four research topics were selected for detailed discussion about the difficulties faced by translators and researchers at home and aborad.

아동문학 시스템에서 번역문학과 창작문학 간의 상호작용 고찰: 김진경의 『고양이 학교』를 중심으로

Even Zohar described the literary system as a polysystem, suggesting that literature is not a single giant system but consists of many subsystems, and that each subsystem competes with one another to occupy a dominant position. Based on the polysystem theory, the interaction and competition between translation children’s literature and original literature within the domestic literary system were explored in this study. For a systematic in-depth examination, literary debates regarding Cat School, Kim Jin-kyung’s children’s fantasy book, was analysed. The book was criticized for imitating Harry Potter immediately after its publication, but the series have received positive reviews for opening a new chapter in Korean-style fantasy literature. Thanks to the huge popularity of Harry Potter books, the translated literature that stayed in the periphery of Korea’s literary system has advanced to the center. The heated debate regarding Harry Potter and Cat School indicates the internal conflict and competition among literary sub-systems in a society.

Hybridization Effects of Normal Insulator on Two-Dimensional Topological Insulator

We consider a geometry where a quantum spin Hall insulator and a normal insulator are in contact with each other on the same plane. We show that our numerical results in nite-system approach agree with analytic results of an earlier work in a quantum spin Hall insulator. We discuss the eects of properties of normal insulators on the probability density of edge states at the interface. The edge-state width is computed by varying the interface hopping and the staggered lattice potential. We also attempt to explain the energy dispersions of edge states by constructing eective Hamiltonian and discuss its validity.

사회구성주의 관점에서 바라본 ‘팀 번역’의 효과 고찰

Social constructionists stress that an interaction with others in a social environment is essential to construct knowledge and learning is a product of collaborative activities rather than individual efforts. On the basis of the theoretical framework, nine students in my translation class were divided into three groups of three students and asked to conduct a "group translation" activity. The students have engaged themselves to various group activities in the translation process. They have worked closely together doing research, analysing a source text, identifying translation problems, discussing translation strategies, and making revisions. After a semester-long activity of team translation, a survey was carried out to examine the students' evaluation of the activity as well as the effects of collaborative learning on students' translation competence.

번역 교육의 새로운 ‘통합’ 패러다임 제안

This paper aims at proposing a new ‘Integration paradigm’ in translator education, noting the rapidly changing business environment in translation industry. Under the new educational paradigm, certain key components need to be integrated in translation classroom for effective teaching and learning. This article begins with a discussion of a dramatic development of translation related technology and its impact on translation profession. Next, translation competence was redefined in consideration of recent challenges triggered by widely-used neural machine translation system. Then, the application of ‘emergence-based’ curriculum was proposed as an important step away from traditional module-based curriculum toward an innovative framework in education setting. After that, the need for ‘authenticity’ in translator training was emphasized with an in-depth discussion regarding ‘what to teach’ and ‘how to teach’. Then, various aspects of blended learning were explored to effectively integrate online and offline teaching. Finally, a close look was given to translation ethics and teacher re-education.

번역 현장 교육 과목의 필요성과 효과적인 운용 방안 제안

This paper focuses on the essential for graduate students of translation and interpretation in enhancing ‘translator competence’ as well as ‘translation competence’. The practicum provides students with a wide range of opportunities: gaining real world experience in the translation and interpreting industry, achieving learner autonomy, making decisions for prospective careers, applying translation theory to practice, establishing a network of translators, offering free translation services for the public good, increasing students' awareness of professional ethics, and informing clients of the significance of communication between translators and clients. In order to investigate the students' responses to the practicum course at the Ewha Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation, a survey was conducted on 66 students. According to the results, the students were highly satisfied with their overall experience but suggested that a systematic collaboration between school and industry be in place to provide students with various practicum opportnities.

인공지능 번역 시스템의 출현에 대한 소고

This paper intends to help translation researchers and professionals monitor the significance of technological changes by appreciating the historical background of how machine translation systems have developed from a translation researcher’s perspective, and by identifying of the types, advantages and disadvantages of machine translation. First of all, we give a broad outline of the history of artificial intelligence and machine translation to serve the purpose of this research. Secondly, the paper explores a correlation between artificial intelligence and machine translation systems formed in their respective process of evolution, and the types of machine translation. And lastly, machine translation results are reviewed in order to give an insight into how different Neural Machine Translation and Statistical Machine Translation are.

법률번역 교육의 필요성 및 교육방안 고찰 - 법률전문대학원과의 협력학습 제안

There has been a dramatic increase in legal translation due to the growing trend towards free trade and a single market. Despite its vital importance and many challenges, legal translation has not received much attention in the translation classroom in Korea. As is known to all, subject knowledge is essential for legal translators to produce high quality translations that have the same legal effect as the originals. With the aim of enhancing subject competence for the students at GSTI(Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation) and effectively raising Law school students' proficiency in English, this paper proposes a close collaboration between GSTI and Law school. The four possible collaborative methods are as follows: First of all, interested students from one school are allowed to take classes in the other school. Secondly, professors from one school are invited to teach specialized classes in the other school. Thirdly, each school could provide intensive programs designed to best meet the needs of the graduates. Lastly, joint conferences and workshops are organized on a regular basis to discuss challenges and solutions for successful collaboration.

철도 전동소음 저감을 위한 자동화된 소형 레일표면 연마장치의 성능평가

철도 차량의 차륜과 레일의 불균형한 표면상태는 차량의 운영시에 상호접촉하여 전동소음(rolling noise)을발생시키는 중요한 원인이 된다. 이러한 전동소음을 저감하기 위해서는 차륜과 레일 표면의 음향조도(acousticroughness)를 측정·분석하여 기준치를 초과하는 경우에 차륜을 삭정하거나 레일표면 연마를 실시하는 등의 일정한 주기의 차륜 및 궤도의 유지보수가 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 레일표면을 미세하게 연마할 수 있도록 소형화 및자동화된 연마장치를 개발하고 현장시험을 통하여 그 성능을 시험하였다. 특히, 시험궤도 레일의 단계적 연마를 수행하고 이에 따른 표면상태의 변화를 국제규정을 기준으로 비교하였으며, 연마 단계별 음향조도 레벨 분석을 통하여 레일 표면의 음향조도 변화에 의한 소음 저감 효과를 검증하였다.
