People tend to control their speech rate to help those with listening problems such as hearing impaired people. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of speech rate on the sentence perception by 10 adults with cochlear implantation. The sample speech included 42 sentences at normal, slow, and very slow speed focusing on the overall duration, vowel or pause duration. The subjects listened to the speech and wrote down what they heard. Each correct syllable of the content words in the sentence was counted to obtain the score. Partial points were given to the incomplete syllables. Results of this study were as follows: 1. The changes of speech rate had some influence on the sentence perception score by the cochlear implanted people. 2. In slow pause condition, the controlled speech rate had a positive effect on the perception score.

This study developed a test entitled Clinical Critical Thinking Skills (CCTS) by using item response theory (IRT) and examined its validity. In the development stage, data obtained from a convenience sample of 627 undergraduate nursing students were analyzed using a discrimination and difficulty index with the TestAn 1.0 program. In the evaluation stage, data from a convenience sample of 284 nursing and non-nursing students were analyzed using a discrimination and difficulty index with the BILOG-MG program. Criterion validity was verified by the group comparison method. Five items received low discrimination index scores according to the IRT results. In terms of the criterion validity, CCTS scores differed according to major (t=2.21, p=0.028), location of high school (F=4.35, p=0.014), clinical experience (t=5.66, p=0.004), and grade point average (F=7.17, p< 0.001). The CCTS can be used to measure critical thinking skills in the clinical setting.
한국인에서 Neuregulin 3(NRG3) 유전자와 조현병의 연합 연구

Objectives : Located on chromosome 10q22-q23, the human neuregulin 3 (NRG3) is suggested as a strong positional and functional candidate gene involved in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Several case-control studies examining the association between polymorphisms on NRG3 gene with schizophrenia and/or its traits (such as delusion) have been reported recently in cohorts of Han Chinese, Ashkenazi Jews, Australians, white Americans of Western European ancestry and Koreans. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the association of one SNP in exon 9 (rs2295933) of NRG3 gene with the risk of schizophrenia in a Korean population. Methods : Using TaqMan assay, rs2295933 in the exon 9 of NRG3 was genotyped in 435 patients with schizophrenia as cases and 393 unrelated healthy individuals as controls. Differences in frequency distributions were analyzed using logistic regression models following various modes of genetic inheritance and controlling for age and sex as covariates. Results : Subsequent analysis revealed that the frequency distribution of rs2295933 of NRG3 was not different between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls of Korean ethnicity. Conclusions : This study does not support the role of NRG3 in schizophrenia in a Korean population.

The purpose of this study is to help for an in-depth understanding of their thinking process by observing and analyzing the response found by two elementary school students, Through this study, the following findings could be obtained. First, two students have a tendency trying to solve the complex situation at first. Second, we could know that it is an important factor in discovering the pattern to predict it. Third, we could know that the activity of reconstructing the data meaningfully is an important factor in discovering the pattern. Fourth, it is an important factor in finding the pattern to work organically the activity of predicting it with the activity of reconstructing the data meaningfully. We hope that this study offers the help for an in-depth understanding of students's thinking process.
잠재적 사료첨가제로서 Pediococcus acidilactici SRCM102607의 생균제 특성 및 면역활성 효과

본 연구에서는 가축의 면역증강용 생균제 개발을 위하여 Pediococcus acidilactici SRCM102607의 프로바이오틱스 특성 및 면역활성을 조사하였다. 전통발효식품으로부터 유산균을 분리 하였고, 분리 유산균을 대상으로 가축유해 미생물 5종에 대한 항균활성을 측정하였다. 우수한 결과를 나타내는 5종의 유산균을 1차 선별하였고, 이를 대상으로 생균제 소재 활용 가능성을 확인하기 위해 용혈성, 담즙산염 분해효소, 항산화 활성 분석을 실시하여 최종적으로 SRCM102607을 선별하였으며, 16S rRNA 유전자 염기서열 분석을 통해 Pediococcus acidilactici SRCM102607로 명명하였다. SRCM102607의 pH 2 조건에서 내산성은 1.54×10<SUP>5</SUP> CFU/ml의 생균수를 보였으며, 0.5% 이상의 oxgall이 포함된 조건에서도 10<SUP>5</SUP> CFU/ml 이상의 높은 생균수를 나타내었다. 또한, 선발균주의 산업적으로 활용할 수 있는 가능성을 검토하기 위해 항생제 내성 및 분해 효소능을 측정하였고 다양한 항생제에 대한 내성과 유해 효소를 생성하지 않음을 확인하였고, 최종적으로 면역 증강제로서의 활용 여부를 확인하기 위해 TNF-α 생성능(171.86±4.00 ng/ml)을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 기반으로 SRCM102607은 가축 생균제 소재로 활용 가능성과 면역활성이 뛰어난 유산균으로 생균제 산업에서의 잠재적 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the probiotic characteristics and immune activities of selected lactic acid bacterial (LAB) strains as feed additives in livestock. 301 LAB strains isolated from traditional fermented foods were first assessed for their antibacterial activity potential. Of the 301 isolates, five showed antibacterial activity against five livestock pathogens (Esherichia coli KCCM11234, Listeria monocytogens KCTC3710, Salmonella Typhimurium KCTC1926, Staphylococcus aureus KCCM11593, and Shigella flexneri KCTC2517). The probiotic characteristics of the five selected strains were also investigated by antioxidative activity, hemolysis, bile salt hydrolase, acid resistance and bile tolerance. The SRCM102607 strain was found to have superior probiotic properties and was selected for further experimentation. 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that SRCM102607 is Pediococcus acidilactici, which was labeled as P. acidilactici SRCM102607 (KCCM 12246P). The survival characteristics of P. acidilactici SRCM102607 in artificial gastrointestinal conditions were assessed under exposed acidic (pH 2.0) and bile (0.5% and 1.0%) conditions. P. acidilactici SRCM102607 was also confirmed to have resistance to various antibiotics, including amikacin, gentamicin, vancomycin, and etc. The TNF-α production by P. acidilactici SRCM102607 was 171.86±4.00 ng/ml. These results show that P. acidilactici RCM102607 has excellent potential for use as a probiotic livestock feed additive.
