This study aims to explore a facet of North Korean language education as a heritage language through the analysis of North Korean language textbooks targeting overseas compatriots. The textbooks consist of 12 chapters, each with 3 sub-units, and include ‘Wrong words-Right words’ sections to demonstrate how to convert Chinese characters and foreign words into North Korean. Each sub-unit includes ‘Preface’, ‘Common sense’, and ‘Yumoa (Humor)’ to enhance learners’ basic common sense and interest. Compared to South Korean textbooks, the North Korean textbooks present a larger amount of vocabulary and grammar. While South Korean textbooks reflect the latest cultural trends, such as K-pop and gender sensitivity, North Korean textbooks only use literary works for cultural education. The study suggests that the North Korean language textbooks lack a situational and functional syllabus but provide insight into the North Korean view of language and the characteristics of Korean language education as a foreign language in North Korea.

재일(在日) 조선학교 국어 교과서 특성 연구 -6차 개편(2003년) 중급학교 교과서를 중심으로-

본 연구는 북한의 재일동포 대상의 조선어교육 교재를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 조선학교에서 사용 중인 국어 교과서를 분석한 선행 연구들을 검토하고 그간 조선학교 교과서가 시기를 거듭하며 어떠한 방식으로 변천해 왔는지 우선적으로 살펴보았다. 다음으로 6차 개편 당시 출판된 2003년, 2004년 조선중급학교 국어 교과서를 연구 대상으로 선정하여 외형과 내형의 측면에서 특징을 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 5차 개편 당시에 강조하였던 듣기와 말하기와 같은 구어 교육을 지속적으로 강조하고 있으며 다양한 수단과 방법을 활용하여 민족성과 애국심을 함양하고 이를 고취시키고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 문화와 관련된 내용을 적극적으로 수록하여 민족성을 함양시켜 재일동포로서 한민족(Korean)이라는 정체성을 확인하고 유지하도록 교육하고 있으며 총련의 지원을 받아 운영되는 기관인 만큼 상당 부분 줄어들기는 하였으나 북한 최고지도자를 찬양하거나 주체사상과 관련된 내용을 여전히 수록하고 있는 모습을 확인할 수 있다. The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean language textbooks targeting North Korean diaspora in Japan. We review previous studies analyzing Korean language textbooks used in Chosun schools and examine how these textbooks have developed over time. We select the 2003 and 2004 (6th edition) Korean language textbooks for intermediate Chosun schools as the subjects of our research and conduct an analysis based on both their external and internal characteristics. The results show that these textbooks, same with 5th edition, continue to emphasize oral education, such as listening and speaking skills by utilizing various means and methods to foster a sense of ethnicity and patriotism and sustain it. Additionally, these textbooks actively incorporate content related to culture to nurture a sense of ethnicity, affirm the identity of being Korean among the North Korean diaspora, and maintain it. As these textbooks are operated with the support of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, there is a noticeable decrease in content in admiration to North Korean leadership, but they still contain content related to Juche ideology and uphold certain aspects of it.

한국어 교사 관련 연구 동향 분석 - 한국 국내 박사학위논문을 중심으로 -

This study analyzes the research trend by meta information and contents of 41 doctoral dissertations related to KFL teachers from year 2004 to 2023. The research trend studied by meta information are reviewed by year, nationality of researchers, and awarding institutions. The research trend analyzed by content are reviewed based on research methods, core concepts, and theories in accordance with each subject. According to the research subject, study related to KFL teachers is categorized into research on KFL teacher education, KFL teacher psychology, KFL teacher behavior and classroom interaction, and KFL teacher policy. Furthermore, for the improvement of internalization and quality improvement of KFL teacher-related research, it is necessary to promote the diversification of research subjects, diversification of research topics, standardization of research methods, specification of research context, and theorization of research results.
