        A connecting rod is an engine component that transfers motion from the piston to crankshaft(transfer the combustion pressure and the inertial force on the piston from the small end of the con-rod through the large end of it to the crankshaft). Connecting rods are a manufactured by mechanical process after forging, casting, powder metallurgical processing. Forging connecting rods are processed by several pre-moled using blocker die. The forging process is finished by trimming, the surface treatment and heat treatment, such as shot peening and blasting, and sizing to fit, Connecting rods are apt to deformation and fatigue crack due to dynamic compression stress, normal stress and torsional stress by the combustion gas explosion. The fracture of the connecting rod makes a big trouble in an engine reliability itself. For the fracture of the connecting rods, however they are reported on the large end of it in many cases, some fractures are done by a small end of it. Especially for the inclined partition of the large end of the connecting rod, a critical damage occurred in the cylinder or crank case, that a crack from a large end of connecting rod bolting surface, to the fracture on the crank pin bolt. In this paper, we investigated that fatigue characteristic of connecting rod material for an automobile. Fatigue life is defined as number of cyclic stress to the failure by regular cyclic stress. Fatigue limit lives are obtained from 134,000 to 147,000 cycles on the average 140,200 cycles. A normal fatigue test results that fatigue limit of C70S6 specimen(432MPa) is higher than that of SM45C(330MPa). The high allowable limit means that usable stress is high and it means that the safety factor is higher when the same load is worked. As the result of fretting fatigue test, fatigue test. Fretting fatigue life test has to be considered that from the stage of maintenance and design, when it comes to it’s impossible to eliminate the connection parts in mechanical structure. The investigation of fracture surface showed that the fatigue crack was initiated by the boundary of a specimen and bridge pad. And it was observed that the formation of oxidation film, also appeared separation shape of oxidation film.
