뉴트로(New-tro) 디자인을 통한 도시재생 사례연구

(Background and Purpose) In cities, humans form relationships and enjoy culture. In this manner, cities form their identity, but modern domestic cities find it hard to differentiate themselves. However, the way the city is handled has changed recently, and the craze for the “newtro” design has begun to be applied. To suggest space through newtro design and the direction of urban regeneration that is born based on it, it is necessary to investigate recent cases. Thus, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the correct direction of urban regeneration through the design of newtro by analyzing the formation of unique urban images and how the spatial characteristics of newtro are projected onto urban spaces. (Method) The method of this study is to first identify the concept of urban regeneration, describe the latest status and alternatives, and then look at Kevin Lynch's research to find the city's image. Second, know the definition of Newtro and grasp the phenomena in many ways. Based on prior research, we also derived the characteristics of the Newtro space. Third, a case study was conducted by applying the five elements of urban image to the casebook derived from a data collection based on big data. It also presents the direction of this study by analyzing the design characteristics of newtro in a space that conforms to the above factors. Fourth, the analysis results identify the current status of urban regeneration through newtro design and future demands. (Results) Recently, old downtowns in Seoul have been reborn with their identity intact. They have a unique image, and to identify it, Kevin Lynch cited elements that make up the city's image, which can be felt in physical form. Newtro is also in many ways a new concept developed in retro culture. As a result of prior research, the characteristics of Newtro space were derived from morphological, cultural, and esthetic characteristics, and the case analysis showed that it was different from the image of the city where short-sighted urban development took place. Urban image analysis showed that the identity of space is the most important factor in Newtro and that efforts to form urban image are related to the Newtro design. (Conclusion) Although urban regeneration through Newtro has been seen in many parts of Korea recently, more urban development is still taking place due to the demolition and redevelopment, and many people prefer such urban development from a simple perspective of real estate property creation. However, if more cities undergo urban regeneration through Newtro, it is believed that old spaces will regain life, and the revitalization of the region will have a positive effect.
