Objectives : This study describes a plan that was designed to prevent a measles outbreak that showed a changed outbreak pattern. This study is based on the epidemiological investigation of a measles outbreak in a preschool in Incheon, Korea, 2006. Methods : The subjects were 152 students at a preschool where a measles outbreak occurred. A questionnaire survey was conducted and serological testing for measles-specific IgM was preformed. Results : Of the fifteen confirmed, identified cases, eleven patients had been vaccinated with one dose, one patient had received two doses and three patients were unvaccinated. The three unvaccinated cases consisted of one 5-year-old child, one 3-year-old child and one 16-month-old infant. For the cases with one dose of the vaccination, there were 11 cases, which consisted of six 5-year-old children, two 4-year-old children, two 3-year-old children and one 2-year-old child. The case with two doses of the vaccination was one 4-year-old child. The attack rate of measles was 100% in the 0-dose group, 11.2% in the 1-dose group and 2.0% in the 2-dose group. The vaccine's efficacy was 88.8% in the 1-dose group and 98.0% in the 2-dose group. The vaccine effectiveness for the 2-dose group was higher than that of the 1-dose group. Conclusions : High coverage with a 2-dose vaccination should be maintained, and the vaccination should be given at the suitable time to prevent a measles outbreak with a changed outbreak pattern.
유독 이온성 액체의 장기 노출에 대한 Shewanella oneidensis MR-1의 반응

In this study, we investigated the effects of longterm exposure to ionic liquid (IL) on Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 (MR-1). MR1 was acclimated through repeated exposure to IL. The acclimated strain was named as S. oneidensis SH-1 (SH-1) and compared with MR-1 in various aspects including morphology, cell surface hydrophobicity (CSH), motility, and fatty acid. Compared to the MR-1, SH-1 showed elongated cell shape on scanning electron microscopy. Upon exposure to IL, hydrophobicity of SH-1 (28.2%) was higher that of MR-1 (3.3%). In contrast, motility of SH-1 (7 mm) was lower than that also of MR-1 (22 mm), and branched chain fatty acid of SH-1 was lower than that of MR-1, 27.6% and 41.1%, respectively.
스트론튬 격리화를 위한 요소 분해 박테리아의 분리 및 특성 연구

In this study, 52 ureolytic bacterial strains were newly isolated from various environments. From these, 2 strains (TB-15 and TB-22) were selected based on their high urease activity. XRD spectra clearly showed presence of various sequestration products such as calcite and strontianite in samples. TB-22 showed 20~30% higher survivability upon Sr concentration (20 mM) than Sporosarcina pasteurii KCTC 3558. TB-15 and TB-22 showed 80~90% higher survivability at pH 6 than S. pasteurii. The results demonstrated that the 2 isolates colud be good candidates for the bioremediation of Sr contaminated sites.
콘크리트 포장에서 분리한 Lysinibacillus sphaericus WJ-8의 포자 형성과 환경 스트레스 반응

Calcite forming bacteria (CFB) have been received increasing attention as a novel and environmental friendly strategy for the healing of concrete crack. Among the CFB, spore forming bacteria were proposed to overcome concrete condition (high pH, hydration heat, deicer). In this study, Lysinibaclillus sphaericus WJ-8 (WJ-8) isolated from concrete pavement was characterized. The WJ-8 was able to precipitate calcite at 10 mg/mL. When observed by scanning electron microscopy, WJ-8 showed spore formation and maximum spore yield was approximately 97.9%. Also response of spores against various environment stresses was examined. Approximately 83~97% of spores maintained their survivability at each three conditions (60℃, 3 M NaCl and pH 12).
