        Cobalt-60 gamma 선(線) 조사(照射)가 가토(家兎)의 성장(成長)에 미치는 영향(影響)

        In oder to investigate the effects of cobalt-60 gamma ray irradiation on the body gains of rabbits aging approximately 50-day-old rabbits were subjected to single whole-body gamma irradiation externally. The results obtained were as follows: 1. There were significant differences of the body gains between control and treated groups except the 100 rads gamma-rays exposure group. 2. There were no differences in body gains between male and female rabbits. 3. Generally, the relation between gamma irradiated doses and the growth rates of rabbits were inversly proportional. 4. The $LD_{50}$ of the rabbits was 600 rads in case of single external whole-body gamma irradiation.

        Cobalt-60 gamma 선(線) 외부전신조사(外部全身照射)가 어린 토끼의 혈액상(血液像)과 성장률(成長率)에 미치는 영향(影響)

        In the event a population of animals is exposed to ionizing radiation, proper disposition of animals will minimize loss to the farmer and protect the public from unwholesome meat and dairy products. Clinical response is an important factor in considering salvage of animals for food following exposure to ionizing radiation whether the dose is lethal or not. It is the purpose of this report to present the discussions of blood picture and growth of y ung growing rabbits exposed to cobalt-60 gamma-irradiation. The experimental animals were Hyrnalayan rabbits of 65 days old. The body weight for all animals of the time of irradiation was approximately 450g. The 96 rabbits used in the experiment were allotted t groups of eight. Rabbits in one group served as controls and the others were exposed to single doses of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 Roentgens (R). The exposure does rate averaged 15 R per minute. Central blood was obtained by heart puncture. Erythrocyte and leukocyte enumerations and, determinations of hemoglobin in blood and hematocrit value were made in the usual manner. Erythrocyte counts, concentrations of hemoglobin in blood, and hematocrit readings dropped to the lowest value between 1 and 4 weeks postirradiation, returning towards the control values. But recovery was not complete at the time of the last determination on 6 weeks postirradiation. There was a progressive decrease with increasing radiation does in the above values. Mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were not affected by the irradiation. After irradiation of each does the numbers of total leukocyte and the absolute numbers of various types of white cell began to decrease rapidly, and reached a minimum after 2 weeks, returning towards normal levels. But recovery was not complete at the time of the last determination on 6 weeks postirradiation. The reductions in total leukocyte and differential counts as the radiation does increases were apparent. Relative neutrophilia was observed in each irradiated group because of more expense of lymphocytes after irradiation. Growth rate of the rabbits was not affected by 100 R of whloe-body irradiation, while rabbits irradiated with 200, 300, 400 and 500 R showed marked depression of growth rate. As the radiation does increases, a depression of growth rate was apparent. The rabbits exposed to 600 and 700 R ceased from growing and recovery was not recognized during the experimental period.

        In oder to investigate the effects of cobalt-60 gamma irradiation on the postnatal body gains and the other influece of the pregnant mice were subjected to single whole-body gamma irradiation externally. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The all mice of 400, 600, and 800 Rads gamma-irradiated groups showed abortion after prenatal gamma irradiation within 4 to 9 days. 2. There were significant differences of the postnatal body gains of mice between the control and treated groups (100 Rads and 200 Rads gamma irradiation). 3. The relation between gamma-irradiated doses and the postnatal growth rates of mice were inversly proportional.

        Cobalt-60 gamma선(線) 전신조사(全身照射)가 생쥐의 혈액상(血液像)에 미치는 영향(影響)

        In order to investigate the effect of cobalt-60 gamma irradiation on the blood picture, the mice were subjected to single whole-body gamma irradiation externally. In this experiment 42 of 12 weeks old white mice were used and animals were allotted to group of three. On of chose groups served as control and the others as test groups that were exposed to single dose of 370 Rads (group I) and 500 Rads (group II). The exposure dose rate were averaged 33 Rads per Minute. The results obtained in this experiment were as follows: 1. Erythrocyte counts in both test groups dropped to the lowest level at 4 weeks postirradiation, returning towards the control level, but in recovery, group I showed rather prumpt compared with group II. Erythrocyte count in group II was significantly lower than that of group I. 2. Total leukocyte counts dropped to the lowest loved at 2 weeks postirradiation and group I recovered to normal level at 4 weeks postirradiation. Recovery group II was very slow and it reached to the control level on 12 weeks postirradiation. Leukocyte count was significantly different between group I and II. 3. Neutrophil count was increased to the highest level at 2 weeks postirradiation, with recovery to normal value after 8 weeks in group I and 12 weeks in group II, respectively. Neutrophil count was significantly different between group I and II. 4. Lymphocyte count dropped to the lowest level at 2 weeks postirradiation, with recovery to normal average after 8 weeks in group I and 12 weeks in group II, respectively. Lymphocyte count was significantly different between group I and II. 5. The other leukocyte count was increased after the irradiation and recovered at 12 weeks postirradiation in both test groups. The other leukocyte count was significantly different between group I and II.

        Aloe arborescens 투여가 Cobalt-60 감마선 조사를 받은 마우스의 생존율 및 혈액상에 미치는 영향

        This experiment was carrid out to investigate whether Aloe arborescens had a radioprotective effect in cobalt-60 gamma irradiated(600 and 700ra4s) mice. The survival ratio of mice for 30 days and blood pictures were investigated. 1. The survival ratios of 600ra4s gamma Irradiated(dose rate 50rads/min.) in pre-irradiation aloe administered group(A), post-irradiation aloe administered group(B) and control group were 73.3%, 72.3% and 63.3%, and those of 700ra4s groups were 63.3%, 60.0% and 51.7%, respectively. 2. The total leucocyte counts of aloe administered groups were less decreased and more rapidly recovery to normal level than those of control group. 3. The lymphocyte counts were rapidly decreased on the 1st day after irradiation in all experimental groups than those of control group. 4. The recovery effects of total leucocyte counts of pre-irradiation aloe administered groups were superior to those of post-irradiation aloe groups and control group.

        알로에 잎 분말급여가 육성돈의 증체율과 생리적 성상에 미치는 영향

        This experiment was conducted to investigate the feed value of dried aloe leaf meal and the changes of blood values in growing pigs A total of 48 three crossbred pig(Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire${\times}$Hampshire) weighing average 25kg initially were randomly distributed into 12 groups of 4 heads(2 females and 2 males) each There groups were alloted on one of the following 3 dietary treatment : non-supplumented diet (control group), diet supplemented with 3% of dried aloe leaf meal(Aloe 3% group), diet supplemented with 6% dried aloe leaf meal(Aloe 6% group). The results obstained in feeding trial for 6 weeks and analysis of blood were summarized as follows : 1. In the chemical composition of dried aloe leaf meal contents of crude protein and crude ash were 9.43% and 15.10%, respectively. Amino acid composition was also inferior to other grain and bran feeds. 2. Daily gain of control, Aloe 3% and 6% groups were 740.5, 658.1 and 197.1 g respectively. Three were significant difference in daily gain among groups( p<0.05) and tended to be decreased with increasing levels of dried aloe leaf meal. 3. Daily feed intake of control, Aloe 3% and Aloe 6% groups were 1,960.5, 1,737.0 and 1,123.0 g, respectively. There were significant differences in daily feed intake among treatments(p<0.05) and tended to be decreased with increasing levels of dried aloe leaf meal. 4. Feed efficiency of control, Aloe 3% and Aloe 6% groups were 2.72, 2.63 and 5.70 respectively. Feed efficiency for pig fed diet supplemented with 3% of dried aloe leaf meal was a little superior to control, although no statistical difference was obstained between two treatments. 5. The digestibilities of dry matter, crude protein, nitrogen free extract and extract were significantly (p<0.05) higher for control group than for Aloe 3% and Aloe 6% groups. But there were no significant differences in digestibility of crude fat and crude fiber between control and Aloe 3% groups. 6. There were no difference between aloe leaf meal administrated groups and control group in blood picture and serum chemistry.
