A mechanical linkage system to measure the operating temperature of the piston is developed and installed to the engine. Actual temperature distribution is measured for comparison with the numerical results. Heat transfer at the piston is analyzed using an FEM program. Thermal boundary condition of piston surface is determined by analytical and empirical methods. The temperature distribution and the thermal deformation are obtained by the FEM program.

To design an optimum engine intake system, a flow model for the intake manifold was developed by the finite difference method. The flow in the intake manifold was one-dimensional, and the finite difference equations were derived from governing equations of flow, continuity, momentum and energy. The thermodynamic properties of the cylinder were found by the first law of thermodynamics, and the boundary conditions were formulated using steady flow model. By comparing the calculated results with experimental data, the appropriate boundary conditions and convergence limits for the flow model were established. From this model, the optimum manifold lengths at different engine operating conditions were investigated. The optimum manifold length became shorter when the engine speeds were increased. The effect of intake valve timings on inlet air mass was also studied by this model. Advancing intake valve opening decreased inlet air mass slightly, and the optimum intake valve closing was found. The difference in inlet air mass between cylinders was very small in this engine.
안정성 이론을 이용한 고압 분사 액체 제트의 미립화 모델에 관한 연구

The wave characteristics for a non-reacting high-speed liquid jet were investigated using a linear stability theory. In this study, 2-D incompressible viscid momentum equation for a liquid jet was considered, and the effects of injection parameters, such as Weber number, Reynolds number, and density ratio, on the wave characteristics were investigated. With the wavelength obtained from the stability analysis, the atomization model was suggested. The droplet sizes after breakup were determined by the wavelengths of fast growing waves, and the mass of the shed droplets was determined by the breakup time derived by ORouke et al. It was found that in comparison with measurements of diesel fuel spray, the results of calculation had a similar trend of the decrease of overall SMD with the increase of Reynolds number.

Although 'Cinnamon' has been widely used for the food and biophamacy in the world, it's toxicity was not screened completely. Major component of 'cinnamon' is CB-OH and CB-PH. CBPH has been reported to have antimutagenic effect. To investigate the toxicity of 2- o-Benzoylcinnamaldehyde (CB-PH), repeated dose (4 weeks) oral toxicity test performed in SD rats. Results of repeated dose oral toxicity tests for 4 weeks (CB-PH; 500, 1000, 2000 mg/kg/day) suggested that the CB-PH treated group showed no significant toxicological findings with body weights, organ weights, hematological and histopathological findings. Therefore, these data indicated that the maximum tolerated dose of CB-PH was 2000 mg above/kg/day in the rats.
원자력 발전소 격납 건물의 수위 측정을 위한 열식 레벨 측정기 개발

A new thermal type fluid level transmitter was designed and tested at the HITROL R&D institute. The relation of heat transfer and electric resistance was adopted as an operation principle. The length of a fabricated level transmitter was two meters and a water under normal temperature was used as a working fluid for the experiment. Finally, the new product could have a high precision, acceptable accuracy and reasonable response time. Foreign-made level transmitter of this type is under in use for measuring water level of containment building in nuclear power plants so far. It is expected that new product will substitute it.
중기 다장기 발암성시험법을 이용한 플라스틱 가소제의 전암단계 병변에 미치는 영향

This study was conducted to assess the modifying effects of diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) in the rat medium-term multi-organ bioassay using five different carcinogens. Seventy five, 6-week-old, male F344 rats were divided into four groups. Animals were sacrificed at week 12. To evaluate modifying effects of preneoplastic lesions of DIDP and DEHP, we measured glutathione S transferase placental form (GST-P) and 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) expression level in liver, numbers of aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in colon and performed histopathological observation. The body weights of rats given 12,000 ppm DEHP and 8,000 ppm DIDP were significantly decreased compared to those of control group. Relative liver and kidney weights of rats given DIDP were significantly increased compared to those of control group in a dose dependent manner. There was no significance of GST-P positive foci and BrdU labeling indices in liver and numbers of ACF in colon among each group. Although hyperplasia of urinary bladder of rat given DEHP were significantly increased compared to that of control group, there were no significant changes of preneoplastic lesions on all organs of rats given DIDP. These results indicate that DIDP has no modifying effect on preneoplastic lesions in all organs.
