Purpose: To evaluate the effect of conjunctival shield on pain alleviation during cataract surgery in conjunctivochalasis patients for conjunctiva drawn into speculum suction holes during cataract surgery. Methods: Forty patients with conjunctivochalasis undergoing cataract surgery using un aspirating speculum were evaluated in the present study. A thin piece of surgical wipe (conjunctival shield) was inserted between the lid and bulbar conjunctiva to shield the conjunctiva from the suction hole and thereby prevent it from being sucked into the hole. Additionally, patients were asked to rank pain following speculum placement both before and after conjunctiva shield insertion by visual analogue scale. Results: The pain scores were 2.50 ± 0.78 points before conjunctival shield insertion, and 1.25 ± 0.66 points after conjunctival shield insertion, which was a significant decrease (p = 0.01). In addition, the results showed a 70% reduction in pain following shield insertion. Conclusions: Conjunctivochalasis causes pain during cataract surgery when using an aspirating speculum. The conjunctival shield insertion is a safe and simple method for pain-free cataract surgery in conjunctivochalasis patients.
타카야수동맥염 환자에서 발생한 포도막염 및 각막염 1예

Purpose: To report a rare case of simultaneous uveitis and keratitis in Takayasu’s arteritis. Case summary: A 22-year-old woman presented with complaints of redness and decrease in vision in both eyes. The patient was diagnosed a decade earlier as having Takayasu’s arteritis. No other systemic or ophthalmic abnormalities were found. She complained of ophthalmic symptom aggravation during an upper respiratory infections and before menstruation. Bilateral corneal edema, conjunctival injection, and anterior uveitis were observed on slit-lamp examination. Concurrent treatments were started in consultation with an internist. Steroid eye drop and steroid systemic administration relieved the ocular pain and symptoms. Conclusions: When a patient presents with recurrent red eyes and visual disturbances with Takayasu’s ateritis, simultaneous uveitis and keratitis due to Takayasu’s arteritis should be considered as a possible diagnosis. 목적: 타카야수 동맥염 환자에서 동시 발생한 포도막염 및 각막염 1예를 보고하고자 한다. 증례요약: 22세 여환 양안 충혈 및 시력저하를 주소로 내원하였다. 10년 전 타카야수 동맥염을 진단받았으며, 다른 전신질환 및 안질환의 병력은 없었다. 환자는 상기도 감염이나 생리 전에 안 증상이 더 심해짐을 호소하였다. 안과적 검사에서 좌안 및 우안의 각막 부종, 결막 충혈 및 전방염증 소견을 보였다. 내과 협진 의뢰하여 타카야수 동맥염 확진 후 병행 치료를 시작하였으며, 안과적으로 스테로이드 점안 및 복용 후 증상 호전을 보였다. 결론: 타카야수 동맥염 환자에서 반복적인 시력 저하 및 각막 부종 발생 시 타카야수 동맥염으로 인한 포도막염과 각막염의 발생을 고려해야 한다. 4D프린팅에서 목적한 3D 형상으로 변형하는 초기 출력 모델 설계 방법

Recent uses of smart materials for 3D printing introduced the production of objects that change their morphology through controlled stimulation. This technology is called 4D printing. To make this technology any useful, there should be a design tool that can calculate the initial 3D printed shape with proper material compositions that will transform into the final shape after being exposed to the stimulation. In this study, we present a mathematical foundation based on polygonal model planarization. The proposed method is quite similar to the parameterization problem in computer graphics but it is more difficult because of the added constraint that all basic elements that constitute the 3D printed initial shape need to expand to reach the final shape. The expansion rate can vary among the elements and this is physically realizable by controlling the mixing ratio of two materials of different expansion ratios. Also, we calculated the angle of the edge that also modified with respect to the vertex as it was flattened. Finally, we proposed a 4D printing structure that can be transformed into a 3D shape using expansion rate and distortion angle of edges.

Two-dimensional (2-D) characteristic boundary conditions (CBC) based on the characteristic analysis are formulated for the lattice Boltzmann methods (LBM). In this approach, the classical locally-one dimensional inviscid (LODI) relations are improved by recovering multi-dimensional effects on flows at open boundaries. The 2-D CBC are extended to a general subsonic flow configuration in the LBM and the effects of the transverse terms are clarified. From the vortex convection and vortex shedding problems, it is verified that the improved CBC shows better performance in accuracy compared to the conventional CBC approaches.

Purpose: To report wavefront analysis of successful treatment of monocular triplopia after cataract extraction. Case summary: (Case 1) A 59-year-old man visited our clinic for a monocular triplopia in his left eye of five years in duration. The best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) was 1.0 in the left eye, and the patient had a mild cortical cataract. The ocular spherical aberration (0.126 μm for the 4-mm pupil, 0.351 μm for the 6-mm pupil) measured by a Hartmann-Shack aberrometer increased preoperatively, while the corneal spherical aberration was normal. After cataract surgery, the monocular triplopia disappeared, and the ocular spherical aberration decreased. (Case 2) A 38-year-old man visited our clinic for a monocular triplopia in his left eye of a two-year duration. The best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) was 0.3 in the left eye, and the patient had a mild nuclear cataract. The ocular spherical aberration (-0.356 μm, -1.343 μm) and trefoil aberration (0.199 μm, 0.252 μm) increased preoperatively, while the corneal spherical and trefoil aberrations were normal. After cataract surgery, the monocular triplopia disappeared and the ocular spherical and trefoil aberrations decreased.

The recent 3D printing industry has been focusing on developing 3D printers to fulfill the user’s need to bring more colorful and realistic outcomes. Several 3D printers have deployed multiple extruders to print different colors. However, this method has a limit on its availability of colors. To solve this, recent research is focused on using mixing chambers to mix the possible colors to provide more color availability. In this paper, we discuss the environment and algorithm behind the development of G-code which allows a gradation effect of the mix of two filaments. The generation algorithm to make gradient G-code has been implemented in Cura using C ++ and Python.
