Visible injury appeared 7 days after ultraviolet-B(UV-B) irradiation, but did not show any significant decline of growth in cucumber plant. However the growth of the first leaves of fertilized plants was suppressed by UV-B irradiation. Especially the most effective growth retardiation appeared when supplied with nitrogen rather than phosphate and potassium. These results suggest that UV-B may play an important role in inhibiting nitrogen metabolism. Therefore we examined the effect of activity of nitrate reductase, and found that the nitrate reductase activity of the first leaves was increased by UV-B irradiation for 7 days and fertilization. We examined the effect of plant hormone on the inhibition of growth in the first leaves. Benzyladenine promoted the growth of discs excised from the first leaves by fertilization and without UV-B, but did not promote the growth of leaf discs from UV-B irradiated plants. We conclude that the UV-B-induced decrease in the growth of the first leaves could be related to reduction in sensitivity to plant hormones.
질소 급원과 유기물 시용이 들잔디의 생육 및 품질에 미치는 영향

This study was carried out to search for growth and quality -of turfgrass by Nitrogen source (Urea Ammonium sulphate) and organic matter, and to obtain methods of pr6per turfgrass management by the results. This experiment was conducted in turf field from 1988 to 1989. The results of this experiment was summarized as follows; 1.Without application of organic matter, turfgrass growth between urea and ammonium sulphate was not significant, however ammonium sulphate resulted in superior to urea in total dry weight when organic matter was applied. 2.The addition of organic matter showed significant effect on color rating and visible quality, and ammonium sulphate was higher quality than urea. 3.Shoot density increased, particularly in ammonium sulphate treatment, when organic matter was applied. 4.Rhizome and stolon were shown significant effect in urea treatment by the application of organic matter. 5.Surface soil pH was allowed to become slightly acid by the ammonium sulphate treatments, but soil acidity remained mostly unaffected when organic matter was supplied. 6.Total nitrogen of log tissue and organic matter content increased when organic matter w-as applied.
양약재배 방법이 토마토의 근권환경(根圈環境)에 미치는 영향

養液栽培는 土壤만큼 緩衝能力이 없기 때문에 養液에 대한 植物體의 反應은 直接的이고 敏感하다. 뿐만아니라 우리나라 季節은 여름에 高溫이 되고 겨울에 低溫이 되는 大陸性 氣候이기 때문에 養液栽培에서 根圈環境의 改善이 必要하다. 따라서 우리나라 기후 여건하에서 養液栽培 方法別 根圈環境의 變化를 調査하여 다음과 같은 結果를 얻었다. 봄철 養液栽培時 베드 溫度下降이 가장 빠른 栽培方法은 砂耕栽培였으며 溫度下降이 가장 緩慢한 栽培方法은 岩綿栽培였다. 高溫期에 外部溫度의 영향이 적었던 양액재배 방법도 岩綿栽培였고 高溫持續 時間이 가장 긴 栽培方法은 NFT(Nutrient film technique)였다. 培養液의 pH 및 EC 變化는 岩綿栽培와 噴霧耕이 컸으며 다음으로 사경, NFT와 DFT(Deep flow technique)에서는 배출구쪽으로 갈수록 점점 낮아지는 傾向을 보였으나 噴霧耕은 位置別로 差異가 없었다. 根活力은 噴霧耕에서 가장 높았고 그 다음으로 岩綿栽培, NFT가 높았으며 DFT, 砂耕, 燻炭栽培에서 낮았다. Root zone environments in hydroponics are very important factors in crop growth, development and quality. In Korea, improvement of root zone temperature is required because of the continental climate. Therefore, this investigation was carried out to clarify the difference of root zone environments in different hydroponic systems under different climates. Tomato plants were grown in nutrient solutions at Seoul City University and Allen Cooper's. Hydroponic systems in this experiment were aeroponics, nutrient film technique(NFT), rockwool culture, sand culture and smoked rice hull culture(SRH). The decrease in temperature rapidly occured in sand culture while slowly in rockwool culture in low air temperature periods. The internal temperature of substrates of hydroponic bed were slightly changed in rockwool culture under high air temperature periods, while the duration of high temperature was longest in NFT. Electrical conductivity and pH of nutrient solution showed great changes in rockwool and aeroponics. Along the bed, the content of dissolved oxygen in nutrient solution had a tendency to decrease in NFT and DFT(Deep flow technique), while didn't a change with aeroponics. Root activity measured by triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) was highest with aeroponics, followed by rockwool culture and NFT
