제주 비양도에서 염소 구제 후 식물상 변화

This study was conducted to investigate changes in flora, after the successful extermination of feral goats on Biyangdo, an inhabited Island in the Jeju Province in South Korea. The study was conducted from July 2020 to June 2021. A total of 226 taxa of vascular plants, belonging to 70 families, 173 genera, 201 species, 6 subspecies, 15 varieties, and 4 forma, were identified. Sixty taxa were identified as floristic regional indicator plants: 3 taxa of grade V, 8 taxa of grade IV, 17 taxa of grade III, 12 taxa of grade II, and 20 taxa of grade I. Rare plants of 9 taxa and endangered wild plants of 1 taxon (Hibiscus hamabo) were also identified. Thirty taxa were identified for naturalized plants. The naturalized ratio was 13.3%, and the urbanization index was computed at 9.3%. Since the goats were introduced on Biyangdo, it was confirmed that the number of plant species decreased in 2003 and 2011. This shows that physical pressure caused by the grazing activity of goats simplified the plant community. However when compared with previous studies, similarities in species composition and communities on Biyangdo were analogous to those reported in 1991 and 1995. This is a result showing that the composition of plant species on Biyangdo appeared to have gradually recovered after the extermination of goats. This study will be used to inform strategies for the conservation and management of island ecosystems. It has important implications for ecosystem restoration, as it shows the restoration process of island ecosystems, after the destructive effects of the livestock introduced to the island.
