Shifting from Reflective Practices to Reflexivity: An Autoethnography of an L2 Teacher Educator
박은애 한국영어교육학회 2014 ENGLISH TEACHING(영어교육) Vol.69 No.1
The purpose of this study is to explore the researcher’s experiences as a teachereducator of a TESOL program at a private university in Korea. The study wasinspired by a growing trend in postmodern approaches which seek to draw out thehidden voice of the researcher. In order to explore the dialogical engagement of theresearcher/teacher educator and the participants, the researcher adapts an autoethnographicapproach which seeks to understand the self in an ethnographic study. Furthermore, this study calls for a shift from employing reflective practices inteacher education programs to reflexivity, which emphasizes the mutuality of bothstructures. The study presents a series of self-narratives and compares them withnarratives drawn from semi-structured interviews with three TESOL students. Byemploying the progressive/regressive method of data analysis, the researcher seeksto understand the historical, cultural, or biographical factors which may havecontributed toward the discoveries made by the researcher. Findings of the studyindicate that the researcher was able to gain a deeper understanding of herself as wellas the students and the TESOL context in Korea.
Preparing Korean Primary School Students for Extensive Reading: A Sociocultural Approach
박은애 한국초등영어교육학회 2019 초등영어교육 Vol.25 No.1
This paper takes a theoretical approach to exploring a sociocultural framework to guiding primary school students to prepare for extensive reading (ER) in the future. It is difficult for most EFL children to make the transition from reading picture books to reading extensively in the target language. This may be due to the fact that ER is not a teachable skill and the underlying principles such as motivation and habit formation, which lay the foundation for success in ER, stem from home literacy practices, rather than classroom instruction. In order to propose a reconceptualization of ER as a social practice, the present paper provides an overview of Vygotsky’s (1978) theory of the ZPD and Bourdieu’s (1977) theory of cultural capital as the theoretical underpinnings of linking ER and home literacy practices. Furthermore, suggestions on conducting a joint project for researcher-teacher-parent collaborations in order to bridge the gap between classroom and home literacy practices are presented.

The purpose of this research study was to analyses the relationship of SNS characteristics and image and how those factors influence a customer’s revisit intention. For the actual test of these hypotheses, surveys were conducted with a convenience sample of 236 participants who had visited the franchise coffee shop. Frequency, factor analysis and AMOS analyzed data. As the results, SNS characteristics in the franchise coffee shops were major influences on the image. Image was a major determinant to influence the revisit intention. These results justify use of SNS characteristics to improve indirectly customer's revisit intention to recommend through increasing SNS marketing. And results suggest that marketers who are trying to understand their customers must consider SNS features and image. As such, the franchise coffee shops should maintain their relationship with customers through SNS PR marketing and positive image, which is the key factor in the industry.
