The purpose of this study was to identify the immediate effects of Maitland joint mobilization with kinematic taping in subacromial impingement syndrome patients. The Maitland joint mobilization was applied glenohumeral joint. The mobilization was performed at the end of rage to Grade IV. After that, kinematic tape was attached to shoulder joint (supraspinatis, infraspinatis, and trapezius muscles). The intervention period was four days. The measurement was done five times. The shoulder pain, range of motion (flexion, abduction, and rotation of the shoulder joint), muscle tone and stiffness (upper trapezius and deltoid muscle) were measured. The shoulder pain decreased. The range of motion (ROM) was increased all flexion, abduction, and rotation of the shoulder joint. Muscle tone and stiffness were decreased, especially upper trapezius of those was greatly decreased. The findings of present study suggest that Maitland joint mobilization with kinematic taping is effective in decreasing pain, muscle tone and stiffness, and in increasing shoulder ROM in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare visual blood loss estimation and subjective emergency according to clothing color. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study which involved the use of mock bleeding patients wearing different colors tops. Results: Differences in visual estimates according to clothing color were significant in both paramedic students (F=6.69, p=.002) and the general department students (F=20.92, p=.000). When looking specifically at the accuracy of visual estimates, the paramedic students group tended to underestimate (50% white, 62.5% black, 32.5% yellow) the actual blood volume in all experimental conditions. On the other hand, the general department group tended to overestimation (45% white, 40% black, 67.5% yellow). The subjective emergency was also found to differ between paramedic students (F=13.58, p=.000) and general department students (F=9.67, p=.000). Conclusion: Paramedics treating bleeding patients at pre-hospital stages need to pay attention to blood loss estimations depending on clothing color, a factor not to be neglected or underestimated.
Enhancing response time of micro-patterned thermoresponsive hydrogels by incorporation of pores
2021 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.38 No.3
Micro-patterned hydrogels have received increasing attention in various research fields that need a fine structure and advanced functions compared to bulk hydrogels. For enhancing their performance, control of the size and distribution of pores in hydrogels is crucial. In particular, for the application of thermoresponsive hydrogels to a soft actuator, the characteristics of pores play an important role in enhancing the response time. We formed a porous structure in micro-patterns of polydiethylacrylamide (PDEAM), a thermoresponsive hydrogel, and analyzed the effect of pore size on the response time of the patterned hydrogels. Micro-patterned thermoresponsive hydrogels are fabricated by photo-crosslinking PDEAM copolymerized with benzophenone photo-crosslinker and polystyrene (PS) as a porogen. Pores sufficiently smaller than patterned objects, between a few micrometers to a few tens of micrometers, are successfully formed by controlling the content and molecular weight of PS. As the size and number of pores increase, the response time is improved, and the response time for swelling and deswelling is improved by up to 52 and 43% by blending PDEAM with 50 vol% of low molecular weight PS (5 kg/mol). This simple way to form a sub-millimeter scale hydrogel structure with controlled pores can be utilized in the emerging research fields, including 3D cell scaffolds, targeted drug delivery, and soft robotics.
Advancements in Hypertension and Physical Activity Research: A Bibliometric Analysis
Vol.33 No.1
PURPOSE: Although research on hypertension and physical activity has expanded in the past few decades, an attempt has yet to be made to characterize the published landscape on this research topic. This study aimed to evaluate research trends in hypertension studies to which physical activity was applied as a lifestyle modification. METHODS: Articles containing two keywords, ‘hypertension’ and ‘physical activity’, were used to search Web of Science, PUBMED, and SCOPUS for articles published from January 2000 to June 2023. After trimming, a total of 2,042 publications were chosen for bibliometric analysis. RESULTS: Over time, a gradual growth in the number of publications was observed. The findings of bibliometric analysis suggest that research on this topic is more active in developed countries than in their developing counterparts. Our findings demonstrate that chronic disease complications, such as ‘diabetes’, ‘obesity’, and ‘cardiovascular disease’, were the most popular research agendas associated with hypertension and physical activity. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that ‘physical activity’ has become an important keyword in not only hypertension but also hypertension-associated complex diseases. More scholars from various backgrounds and geographical regions, in particularly developinging countries, are expected to join the discussion on hypertension and physical activity.
Vol.27 No.2
The current focus within the content of the Korean Smart City Model Construction Plan, issued by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, is primarily directed toward internal implementation plans rather than emphasizing a strategy for the international export of smart cities. To promote the export of Korean Smart Cities, it is imperative to develop a distinctive strategy and image, such as a unique brand, that differentiates it from other nations. Therefore, this study aims to apply David Aaker's Brand Identity Theory, analyzing existing models and domestic smart city cases to explore strategies for creating a distinctive brand for Korean Smart Cities. The analysis will particularly delve into the cases of Sejong and Busan, identifying commonalities and distinctive features to elucidate the identity of Korean Smart Cities. This research is expected to assist in developing a strategy that considers branding elements for exporting smart city solutions from South Korea in the future, as well as setting the direction for South Korean smart technology companies.
