This paper deals with a fundamental study on applying low grade fuel oil to diesel engine. Experiments wee carried out to clarify the effect of ultrasonic vibrations on the characteristics of kinematic viscosity, structure, volatility of low grade fuel oil. The results are obtained as follows : 1. The ultrasonic vibrations of low grade fuel oil result in the decrease of kinematic viscosity of low grade fuel oil. 2. The ultrasonic vibrations of low grade fuel oil result in the Branchness Index of low grade fuel oil. 3. The ultrasonic vibrations of low grade fuel oil result in the lowering evaporated line of low grade oil.

An optimum ultrasonic atomizer has been manufactured to increase fuel atomization rate and obtain fuel fine droplet size which are the major engine performance increasing factor in gasoline engine. New atomizer and commercial carburetor have been installed in test gasoline engine and followings are the result of the performance test. 1) Fuel size of new atomizer has been less than 4% of commercial carburetor. 2) Fuel atomization rate has been increased 25-40% at same AF ratio. 3) BMEP was similar to the commercial carburetor at same operating condition but lean combustion range can be extended up to AF ratio of 35 : 1. 4) BSFC has been decreased 40%-50% at same operating condition. 5) CO and HC emissions of new atomizer has been reduced to less than 5% of the commercial carburetor at same operating condition.

The whole world is troubled because of the international oil shocks of 1974 and 1979 and because of the worry of future oil exhaustion. In these days of endeavoring to reduce oil consumption and to control air pollution from automobile exhaust emissions, this study sought means to improve the volatility of gasoline with methanol and ethanol through the use of a preheated cooling medium. The results were as follow: 1) Generally the volatility increased with gasoline blends. 2) Also the volatility increased with a preheated cooling medium. 3) It is obtained to sensitivity of volatility to manufactured equilibrium air distillation apparatus.

In these days of endeavoring to reduce oil consumption and to control automobile exhaust emission gases in the air pollutions to be troubled in the whole world, because of the international oil shock and future oil exhaustion covering two times of 1974 and 1979, this study is obtained to conclusion to reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide density from mixing methyl alcohol with gasoline and preheating and pressurizing intake air. The results were as follows: 1) It decreased carbon monoxide density with mixing methyl alcohol with gasoline. 2) It decreased hydrocarbon density with mixing methyl alchol with gasoline below 10%. 3) It decreased considerably carbon monoxide and hydro carbon density with preheating and pressurizing intake air.
