Chinese Apartment Housing Planning Considering the Expanding Family's Living Culture

        이정정,노신엽,오디,저성양,최경란 한국전시산업융합연구원 2023 한국과학예술융합학회 Vol.41 No.4

In the process of urbanization development in China, apartment housing constructed to accommodate the rapid expansion of urban populations has been characterized by uniformity. However, with economic growth and an improvement in quality of life, residents' demands for the quality and personalization of housing have been steadily increasing. The functions and features of these residences need to be redefined. Against the backdrop of changing birth policies and diverse lifestyles in contemporary China, the standardized spatial planning in apartment buildings fails to reflect the individual living characteristics and needs of residents. Therefore, this study focuses on the most common apartments found in Chinese cities and aims to establish spatial planning that takes into consideration the living characteristics of residents based on the family life cycle. Based on this, the paper adopts a user-centered video ethnography approach to investigate the living behaviors of families during three stages: early childhood, primary school, and adolescence, within the context of family expansion. Firstly, user space usage patterns and psychological spatial needs during the family expansion phase are derived through spatial on-site surveys and user interviews. Subsequently, video footage capturing the activities of sampled families 24/7 is collected. User living behaviors are then encoded, and the coding of user behaviors in the videos is inputted into the Observer XT program. This process helps extract user preferences for living behaviors, spatial usage requirements, and user demand characteristics considering the family life cycle stages. Finally, the study summarizes these user demands and presents key elements for future apartment housing spatial design planning.
