This paper explores preserving human dignity in dementia narratives. For this, this study examines the research on human dignity of people with dementia in the areas of non-literary factors, geriatric medicine, psychology, social welfare, gerontology, etc. The dignity of a person with dementia is defined by the personal dignity, which respects the voice of each person differently. The person should be at the center of his or her story of life to maintain his or her dignity. Caring is also important for preserving the dignity of people with dementia who have lost memories. Everyone should also learn, understand and prepare for dementia to preserve dignity. Based on this research, this paper analyzes the dementia discourse in literary narratives and explores the various ways to keep dignity and alternatives for preserving human dignity. The common view on the preservation of human dignity in literary narratives is to accept the change of process of life and to understand that people with dementia are not at the end but in a process of change in the continuum of life. .

The purpose of this paper is to examine characters' different laughter of Love and to view Love through the laughter. This paper examines laughter of Love from four points of view. First, Morrison uses laughter as a cosmic joke to represent human greed and selfish struggle as a trivial or useless thing. Second, there is Bill Cosey's laughter with embracing arm and beaming. He acts with this laughter to be looked at well for his whole life. His laughter is a tool and a strategy to succeed in creating his self-image, managing his house and running a business. Third, Heed and Christine share 'stomachache laughter' and laugh till they hiccup. This laughter is innocence itself and represents an open-mind to others and signifies the primitive state ignorant of any ideology of conquest. In turn, this laughter is cruelly destroyed by Cosey's laughter. Last, there are several kinds of laughter that function as communication. They include scorn, ridicule, smirk, and giggle expressing one's superiority to others. There is also Romen's 'real' smile, slow and informed, beaming with maturity that is a clear contrast to Cosey's laughter. Morrison suggests the hope for future with this 'real' laughter.

Nam, Sungsook. “Positive alternatives for Life in Old Age in Alice Monro’s Short Stories.” Studies in English Language & Literature 46.3 (2020): 61-80. This paper explores the positive alternatives of Monro's discourse about life of old age. Monro discusses aging and dementia in several short stories. She pursues a positive way of life as opposed to the conventional negative stereotypes on the elderly and life of old age. For such pursuits, Monro's characters take a reformed, strange and heterogeneous path rather than the fixed familiarity. In the conventional order, in old age, they usually follow a single, comfortable way to “empty and give up,” but Monro's elderly characters do not give up anything because of age. Instead, they maintain their own personality and adhere to being the subject of their own lives. That turns out to be their pride and the essence of life. Although their challenges are unfamiliar and unimaginable at first for the readers to accept, Munro’s persuasive discourse opens a new epistemology on life of old age and provides the reader with a new awareness of life. These contents are explored in the main text "Pride" and the secondary texts "Dolly," “In Sight of the Lake,” and “The Bear Came Over the Mountain.” (Hannam University)

노년의 삶에 대한 앨리스 먼로의 담론

This paper explores Alice Munro’s discourse on the lives of old age in the context of the ageing society in which the discourse of the elderly can make a positive role in social change. Based on the discourse of elderly people in the fields of social science, geriatrics, psychology and women’s studies, two works by Munro, “Dance of the Happy Shades” and “Dolly” are used as texts for this research. These works deal with characters who are able to work on their own in their seventies or eighties. This paper, in the elderly discourse of these works, tries to draw a positive aspect from the elderly and to find a productive way to become an anti ageist. The characteristics of Munro’s elderly discourse is unique. Munro does not expose the negative stereotypes of the elderly nor condemn false beliefs and ageism prevalent in society. Munro does not claim the need for reconstruction of contradictory order, but shows a reconstructed world already dismantled for readers. Munro presents an exemplary model that readers may follow. As Munroe’s method of elderly discourse suggests an alternative solution, more concerns and efforts are projected than other discourses that call for the need for reconstruction.

사과 잎(apple leaf) 추출물의 항산화 효과

본 연구는 사과 잎 추출물의 화장품 소재로 응용하기 위한 가능성을 평가하기 위하여 에탄올 70%로 추출하여 실험을 진행하였다. 사과 잎 추출물을 GC/MS로 분석하였고, 폴리페놀, 플라보노이드 함량과 DPPH radical 소거 활성을 통하여 항산화, 세포생존율(MTT assay) 확인을 통한 독성 평가를 하였으며, Nitric oxide (NO) 생성 저해 측정을 통해 사과 잎 추출물을 처리한 군에 4.6배의 NO 생성량이 감소하는 것을 확인하였고, 항염효과를 알아보았다. 총 폴리페놀 함량은 78.80 ± 0.25 ㎎/g, 총 플라보노이드 65.25±6.62 ㎎/g로 나타났다. DPPH radical 소거 활성은 추출물 농도 0.25%에서 79.8± 0.99%, 0.5%에서 88.13±0.89%, 1%에서 96.83±2.00%로 소거능이 증가함을 확인하였다. 세포 생존율 평가는 고농도인 1000 ppm 농도에서도 91.19±3.49%로 80% 이상의 생존률을 확인하였다. GC-MS 성분분석 결과 catechol(5.65%), DL-Gluciol(12.05%), Ascorbicacid(2.41%) ,Phytol(13.88%), Hexanoic acid(5.47%) 등 항산화 화장품 소재로 활용이 사료된다. 이에 실험 결과 사과 잎 추출물을 이용한 천연 기능성 화장품 소재 개발에 있어 중요한 기초 자료로 이용되고자 한다. In this study, in order to evaluate the possibility of applying apple leaf extract as a cosmetic material, we conducted an experiment by extracting with 70% ethanol. Apple leaf extract is analyzed by GC/MS, and toxicity is evaluated through polyphenol, flavonoid content and DPPH radical scavenging activity, antioxidant, and cell viability (MTT assay) OK, and nitric oxide (NO). It was confirmed that the NO production amount decreased 4.6 times in the group treated with the apology leaf extract through the measurement of the production inhibition of), and the anti-inflammatory effect was investigated. The total polyphenol content was 78.80 ± 0.25 mg /g and the total flavonoids were 65.25 ± 6.62 mg /g. It was confirmed that the DPPH scavenging activity increased sogonun at 79.8 ± 0.99,% at an extract concentration of 0.25%, 88.13 ± 0.89% at 0.5%, and 96.83 ± 2.00% at 1%. The cell viability was evaluated at 91.19 ± 3.49% even at a high concentration of 1000 ppm, confirming a viability of 80% or more. As a result of component analysis of GC-MS, it can be used as an antioxidant cosmetic material such as catechol (5.65%), DL-Gluciol (12.05%), Ascorbic acid (2.41%), Phytol (13.88%), Hexanoic acid (5.47%). Conceivable. The result of this experiment will be used as an important basic material in the development of natural functional cosmetic materials using apple leaf extract.
