A series of methyl α-(methoxyimino)-5-thiazole acetate derivatives were prepared by Hantzsch cyclization of thioacetamides with methyl 4-bromo-2-methoxyimino-3-oxopentanoates. Treatment of methyl 3-oxopentanoate with nitrous acid followed by methylation gave 2-methoxyimino derivatives. 2-Methoxyimino-3-oxopentanoates were converted into their 4-bromo derivatives by the reaction with cupric bromide.

Substituted 2-aminothiazoles were prepared by Hantzsch reaction of 2-aminothioureas and α- bromocarbonyl compounds. Their protective activities against rice leaf blast, cucumber gray mold, wheat leaf rust and tomato late blight were tested. Compounds with the aromatic groups with various m-substituents at the position 2 and the aromatic group at the position 4 in the thiazole ring showed high in vivo fungicidal activity against rice leaf blast and wheat leaf rust.

A series of 4-phenyl-2-anilinothiazole derivatives were prepared by the reaction (2-aminothiazoles and 2-chloro-3, 5-benzotrifluoride and tested for their protective activitie against rice leaf blast, rice sheath blight, cucumber gray mold, wheat leaf rust. Most of compounds containing fluoro substituents at various positions of their phenyl ring at the position 4 in the thiazole ring showed high in vivo fungicidal activity.
