제주도 종달리패총유적 4지구에서 출토된 동물뼈 유물의 비교해부학적 관찰

Animal bones that were excavated with earthenware at the Jongdal-ri shell mound archaeological site IV on Jeju Island were investigated morpholgically and osteometrically. This archaeological site is estimated to date from the late Tamra period to the unified Shilla Dynasty (A.D. 7C) based on the type of earthenware. The number of animal bones was 3,430 pieces(Quarter B : 758, Quarter C : 2,672). The animal species consisted of Cervus spp., Sus spp., Bos spp and Canivore. The animal bone pieces excavated at Quarter B consisted of those of Cervus(53.3%), Bos(2.8%) and Sus(13.7%). The bones of Cervus(53.3%), Bos(2.8%), Sus(13.7%) and Canivore(4.6%) were found at Quarter C. The greatest number of heads was unearthed as a whole, and the classification according to animal species showed that the heads were more visible than other bones. Forelimbs and hindlimbs were distributed evenly on the part of Cervus. The skeletons from Bos were identified in the order of heads, forelimbs and hindlimbs, while nearly all the Sus bones were found to be heads. These data suggests that Cervus, Sus and Bos are major fauna at the estimated period.

Background: The purpose of this study was to confirm whether surface FES was effective in the function of chronic stroke patients' affected shoulder and whether FES influenced their functional abilities in ADL, as well. Method: the subjects were inpatients at a general hospital in Gyeonggi-Do, Korea and had been diagnosed as a sub-luxation in their affected shoulder. They were 26 and were separated to an experimental group and a control group, in equal number. Both groups had gotten an exercise treatment for 6 weeks. The control group didn't get any FES as opposed to the experimental group. Result: in the experimental group there was no statistical significant difference in the vertical space and the joint space, even though the space was reduced. In the control group, there was no statistical significant difference, either. Moreover, each space of their shoulders was increased. In the range of motion of each group, there was no statistical significant difference. In functional independent ability, there was a significant difference in an experimental group. In contrast, there was no difference in a control group. Conclusion: this result suggests that FES should be effective in the sub-luxation of the patients' affected shoulder and the range of motion of their shoulders. On the other hand, compared to the previous items, FES was quite effective in the functional improvement.

Teaching swimming to the disability children's has been an accepted adjunct to other therapeutic and rehabilitative modalities for several decades. Much has been written on this subject during ths past 30 years both in the United States and in England. The purpose of this article is First, to describe the basic on swimming program equipment and principles of treatment. Second, an swimming program designied specially for use with disability children's. The foregoing designied swimming program as a recreational and therapeutic activity has tremendous potential for maintaining or improving the psychological and physical well being of the disability children's. A swimming or pool therapy program which is under the supervision of a therapist with a keen understanding of the nature and complexity of disability children's.

The testis and epididymis are important organs of the male reproductive system; the functionis to produce, mature, transport, and store sperm. It is important to understand the localization and expressionof specific proteins based for the studies of its physiological processes. In this study, we investigated theexpression and distribution of galectin-3, one of beta-galactoside-binding proteins, in the testis andepididymis of mouse using western blot and imunohistochemistry. Western blot analysis revealed that theexpression of galectin-3, 29 kDa protein, was low in the testis. In the epididymis, high expression wasdetected in the body and tail part, but moderate expression in the head part. By immunohistochemicalanalysis, we found that positive localization of galectin-3 was detected in some myoid cells and Leydigin the epithelium of epididymis, especially in the epithelium of both body and tail of epididymis. Collectively,these results suggest that galectin-3 is constitutively expressed in the testis and epididymis of mouse withvarying intensity, and the role of galectin-3 in the male reproductive organ may be involved in the specificfunction of its structures.

A dome-shaped subcutaneous nodular mass was detected on the forehead of 2-year-old mixed cattle encountered at Jeju slaughter house. The mass showed distinctive greasy appearance and float in 10% buffered formalin. Mass was well demarcated with other tissues, and firm in consistency and white-yellowish color on cut surface.Histopathologically, subcutaneous mass was well circumscribed but unencapsulated. This mass was composed of larger lipocytes or more variability in size than normal mature lipocytes. The cytoplasmic lipid of tumor cells could be demonstrated using Oil red O staining. Based on the gross and histopathologic findings, this case was diagnosed as subcutaneous lipoma in cattle. In our best knowledge, this is the first case of bovine lipoma in Korea.
Expression of nitric oxide synthase isoforms in the porcine ovary during follicular development

The expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) isoforms in the ovaries of pigs was examined to study the involvement of nitric oxide, a product of NOS activity, in the function of the ovary. Western blot analysis detected three types of NOS in the ovary, including constitutive neuronal NOS (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS); eNOS immunoreactivity was more intense compared with that of iNOS or nNOS. Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated the presence of nNOS and eNOS in the surface epithelium, stroma, oocytes, thecal cells, and endothelial cells of blood vessels. Positive immunoreactions for nNOS and iNOS were detected in the granulosa cells from multilaminar and antral follicles, but not in those of unilaminar follicles. iNOS was detected in the surface epithelium, oocytes, and theca of multilaminar and antral follicles. Taking all of the findings into consideration, the observed differential expression of the three NOS isoforms in the ovary suggests a role for nitric oxide in modulating reproduction in pigs.

A substantial literatures on environmental risk perception have emerged since the late 1960s. Most these works focus on how people form risk perception, on what people believe, on difficulties in communicating information about health, safety, or environmental risks to non-experts. In this study, questionnaire surveys were conducted to sample from stakeholders(general public, environmental specialist, governmental official, non-government officials, journalist) during March and Aprils, 2000. Total number of responses was 1,803 including 773 persons of general public, 353 experts, 390 governmental officials, 111 journalists and 176 NGO members. Risk perception on 26 environmental issues were statistically analyzed to relate with the need to regulate each issues, interest and knowledge, experience of hazard, satisfaction in environmental situation, etc. This research aims to aid risk analysis and policy-making by providing a basis for understanding and anticipating group responses to environmental issues and improving the communication of risk information among general public, lay-people, technical experts, and decision-makers. This study concludes that those who are in charge of promoting and regulating health and safety of citizens should understand how people perceive about and respond to environmental risk. Without such understanding, well-intended environmental policies of governments would be ineffective,
