Ranking Hotels under Customer Risk Aversion:Application of the Stochastic Dominance Theory

Today, guests rely heavily on online sources to obtain information about hotels. In line with the trend, websites have started to offer rankings of hotels based on mean scores of customer reviews. However, mean-based comparisons may lead to misleading results when customers are risk-averse, and literature suggests that service consumers generally prefer lower uncertainty. Meanwhile, accommodating risk aversion in comparing preferences is not straightforward, while the widely used mean-variance criterion fails to detect some obvious choices. As an alternative, this study proposes application of the stochastic dominance theory to ranking of hotels and conduct a simulation experiment to illustrate its discriminant power. Furthermore, the stochastic dominance tests are applied to hotel rating data collected from Tripadvisor to demonstrate future applicability. Results suggest that stochastic dominance tests outperform t-tests in both pairwise discriminant power and in obtaining unique ranks among the sample hotels.

Waveforms obtained by Impulse Response (IR) method were analyzed for integrity test of cast-in-place piles. We proposed a new flowchart for data processing, which includes generating reflectivity function and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of the function. Analysis of approximate and details coefficients of the DWT, and the reflectivity function itself provide good measures for integrity test of cast-in-place piles. We found a fault in the pile by proposed analysis technique, which had not been found by the conventional analysis.

Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and Seismic Cone Penetration Test (SCPT) have been recently developed to obtain S-wave velocity profiles which were conventionally investigated by a down-hole seismic survey. For unconsolidated sedimentary sites, we studied these three methods, and compared the results with a drilling log. All the methods showed that the changes in the S-wave velocities were consistent with the changes in the sedimentary facies. In addition, the SCPT was most sensitive to changes in sedimentary facies among the three profiles. The results of the SCPT showed that there exists a low velocity zone, which is mainly composed of clayey sand, at the depth of 8~12 m in the sediments.
베이비부머의 사회경제적 특성과 주거특성 변화 연구 – 가구특성에 따른 서울시와 수도권 베이비부머의 2006-2018년 변화 -

This study aims to analyze changing trends of both socioeconomic and housing and residential characteristics of the baby boomers, and differences according to their household qualities including retirement and income in Seoul and the Capital region. Firstly, the proportion of retired baby boomers amounted to seventeen percent in 2016 and it has been increasing, implying that it has a considerable impact on the our society and economy. Secondly, average household income of the baby boomers has not increased; however, the number of retired baby boomers has significantly diminished for ten years. As they continue to be retired from their workplaces, the portion of high-income bracket has decreased and low-income bracket has increased considerably. Thirdly, retired baby boomers has significantly lower level of income and total assets, and higher level of liabilities than general households in the region. It is also expected that low-income baby boomers will suffer from residential instability. Finally, average dwelling area and housing price of retired baby boomers are relatively lower than other households. More studies of residential movement and choices are necessary considering their retirement and income level. 이 연구는 2006년부터 12년 간 우리나라 베이비부머의 사회경제적 특성과 주거특성의 변화와 가구특성에 따른 차이를 종합적으로 분석하고 시사점을 제시하는 것이 목적이다. 최근 베이비부머의 은퇴가 크게 증가하여 2018년 약 20% 이상 은퇴한 것으로 나타났다. 베이비부머의 은퇴 증가는 사회 및 경제 전반에 미치는 영향력이 크다. 은퇴에 대한 정의를 명확히 규정하고 정기적인 공식조사가 필요하다. 둘째, 베이비부머의 월 평균 가구소득은 증가하지 않았으나, 은퇴 베이비부머의 가구 소득 감소는 뚜렷하다. 베이비부머의 은퇴가 본격화되면서 고소득층의 비중이 크게 감소하고 저소득층의 비중이 크게 증가하였기 때문이다. 셋째, 은퇴한 베이비부머의 가구소득이 감소하고 자산액이 상대적으로 낮으며, 부채가 증가하였다. 또한 저소득 베이비부머의 월세 비율이 높고 은퇴 후 저소득 계층의 주거불안 문제가 심화될 것으로 예상된다. 은퇴와 소득계층을 고려한 적절한 주택 및 주거복지 정책의 마련이 필요하다. 마지막으로, 은퇴한 베이비부머의 주거면적과 주택가격이 상대적으로 적고, 주거면적이 감소한 가구의 비율이 증가하였다. 베이비부머의 은퇴 이후 주거이동과 주거선택에 관한 연구가 필요하다.

A pseudospectrum method is used for modeling two-dimensional seismic wave propagation, in which the fast Fourier transform is employed to compute the spatial derivative of wave equations and second-order differentiating approximation is used to calculate time marching. An infinite rod model and an infinite rectangualr column model are inputted and seismic profiles or snapshots of full wavefield are obtained. Through utilizing this method it might be possible that the diffraction hyperbola generated by buried object can be identified by its configuration and intensity.

A marine seismic exploration with the 400Hz bubble pulser 1200 system was carried out The seismic survey was conducted along the 5 survey lines(total length of 4km), and the aim of this survey was to profile depth of sediment layer and bedrock with SINCDAS(Single Channel Data Acquisition System) developed by this study. The field data is displayed with variabel-density method and compared with borehole log to confirm accuracy of seismic data interpretation. The subsurface structure consists of the upper clay layer and the lower silt-clay layer. But the bedrock depth is not found because of extremely shallow survey depth and multiple reflections.

When four boreholes are installed in the cast-in-place pile, coordinates of the boreholes are obtained by using a least squares method, utilizing six hole-to-hole distance measurements. In addition, most probable values of hole-to-hole distances are calculated with coordinates of the boreholes. With the knowledge of borehole coordinates sound velocity of the pile can be obtained more accurately, and the cross section of the pile can be drawn with the drawing program easily. Also, coordinates of the boreholes would be very useful when a horizontal tomography technique is applied for integrity test of the cast-in-place pile.
해양 탄성파탐사 자료취득을 위한 PC기반 아날로그 신호처리기의 활용 가능성 연구

This paper examines the availability of analog processor for PC to implement the data acquisition system of multi-channel marine seismic survey on a PC base. The analog processor has analog gain and the low cut filtering functions. In this study the data have been acquired by using only the analog gain function. With applying gain function it is observed that the analog signal has the enough energy level and allowable S/N ratio for digitalization. A 2-D seismic section was created using the acquired data and it could be fully utilized for the seismic interpretation. It can be concluded that the analog processor for PC used in data acquisition system for PC based multi-channel marine seismic survey provides the highly economic and effective survey system.
