There are many eutrophic lakes by point and non-point pollution sources such as industrial waste water, domestic raw sewage, and mucks. The eutrophic lakes not only cause algal blooms but also destroy the ecosystem in the lakes due to high nutrient concentrations. The purpose of this study was to improve water quality in eutrophic lakes by cultivating microalgae using photobioreactors (PBRs) with selectively permeable mesh (SPM), supplying nutrients in the lake and inhibiting cell leakage by diffusion and water permeability. Chlorella vulgaris, was cultivated using PBRs with SPM installed in Inkyung Lake located in Inha university, Incheon, Korea. When cultivating C. vulgaris, 8.3 g/㎡/day of average biomass productivity was obtained at 3 days. Furthermore, concentrations of total nitrogen and phosphorus were reduced by 35.7% and 84.2%, respectively, compared to initial condition and water quality in eutrophic lake was improved to oligotrophic environment. These results suggest that microalgal cultivation using PBRs with SPM in the lake could produce microalgal biomass as well as improve water quality by decreasing nutrient concentrations.

To verify influences of macrophytes on sediment and water in the littoral zone, physicochemical characteristics of sediment and root biomass at the clipped and the vegetated plots of stands of Typha angustifolia and Zizania latifolia, and water chemistry along a transect from the shore toward pelagic zone were studies in Lake Paltangho. The upper sediment of the vegetated site with large root biomass showed more oxidative condition, less NH_4^+-N, and less available nitrogen and phosphorus measured by ion exchange resin bag method than those of the clipped site. Electric conductivity(EC) and NH_4^+-N concentration of the water were lower in the littoral zone of submersed macrophytes than those in the pelagic zone during the growing season. EC and concentrations of inorganic nitrogen and potassium of water were lower at the stand of Z.latifolia than those in the pelagic zone during its growing season. During the declining season, however, EC and concentration of inorganic nutrients were higher in the littoral zone than those in the pelagic zone. Therefore, chemical characteristics of sediment and water were changed with the growth stages of macrophytes in the littoral zone of Lake Paltangho.

The changes in the area and standing crop of forests and the understory vegetation structure of various plantations were investigated by literature survey to predict the changes in the structure of forest ecosystems of the Korean Peninsula in the future. The greater part of forest was severely destroyed in 1950`s in the Korean Peninsula. The forest standing crop has been dramatically increasing since the nationwide plantation was actively performed in 1970`s and 1980`s in the Republic of Korea. The area of forest was incessantly decreased at the rate of 5,500 ha yr-1. The results of regression analysis on the changes in forest standing crop of the Republic of Korea showed that the forest might approach to the maturity stage in around 2150. It was predicted that the potential natural vegetation of Quercus mongorica, Fraxinus rhynchophyllus, Prunus sargentii, etc. would establish in the plantations of Larix leptolepsis, Pinus koraiensis and Robinia pseudoacacia in the future.

Beside the commercialized pigments from microalgae, such as astaxanthin, beta-carotene, and c-phycocyanin, zeaxanthin is another pigment with great potential for commercialization as it can be used to prevent or cure age-related macular degeneration. However, low zeaxanthin productivity due to its low content in microalgal biomass has been the major obstacle to commercialization. With recent advances in genome editing technology, a green microalga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii dZL was engineered to accumulate zeaxanthin with growth by knocking out enzymes that convert zeaxanthin into other carotenoids. In the present study, C. reinhardtii dZL was cultivated using TAP medium in 100 L flat-panel photobioreactors (PBRs), and the effect of initial cell density(ICD) on biomass productivity in batch operation was investigated. ICD of 0.1 g/L was predicted to yield highest biomass productivity from experiments using 2 L bubble column PBRs. In 100 L flat-panel PBRs, as ICD increased from 0.005 g/L to 0.08 g/L, biomass productivity was increased from 0.03 g/L/ day to 0.16 g/L/day. However, further increasing ICD from 0.08 g/L to 0.16 g/L reduced to 0.14 g/L/day as the maximum biomass concentration was limited by the light intensity. The results showed that ICD could affect biomass productivity in positive and negative ways, and thus ICD should carefully be determined with regards to the culture conditions. Such strategy could be applied to improve productivity for other compounds of interests in other microalgae as well.

The purpose this study was to investigate the aerobic power and isokinetic muscular function of knee joint for korea the pro-soccer players in field position. Data were obtained from thirty one pro-soccer players. They didn't have any medical problem. They performed exercise stress test and isokinetic muscular function on treadmill and Isomed 2000. The assessment of cardiorespiratory and isokinetic muscular function were VO2max, Maximal heart, ATVO2, AT heart rate, Total Work, Average Work, Maximum Torque, Maximum Work and Flex/Ext. A two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures(two-way(2x4)RM ANOVA) was used to compare group and field position differences aerobic power and isokinetic muscular function. A Tukey post hoc test was used when significant mean differences were observed. Statistical significance was accepted as p<O.05. Aerobic power do not showed any significant difference among in field position. Hamstring muscle power was significantly higher in Forward and Middle field than Defense and Goal keeper. Muscular endurance was higher Defense and Goal keeper than Forward and Middle field. Based on the facts that we have discussed, aerobic and anaerobic power in field position do not showed any difference. However, isokinetic muscular function was significant difference in field position. Ratios of conventional and functional for isokinetic Hamsting: Quadriceps muscle strength in soccer player for prediction and decision injures, it is thought that more researches on it should be required.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.
