This is a rough survey on the user-oriented English teaching over a half century after Korean War with special concern on the text materials and teaching methods. The survey finds that the demand for practicality in English has been three dimentional: the movement toward more contrastive cultural aspect in content rather than pure literature appreciation, the movement toward the common sense every day science and technology re-enforced by picture screen with the advant of science and techonology era from romance stories, and finally reading skill teaching resembling code deciphering process is slowly giving way to audio teaching aids, now to the video aids as domonstrated by Tokyo University. The important role of video aids in classroom has been heralded long before Tokyo innovation by Dr. Laude Roberuge, the proponent of SGAV Methodogy in Japan since early eighties. In view of these developments, the author has been working on the develupment of audio-visual teaching material and the teaching technique to near completion. The author propose herewith its adoption and implementation, for the trend is irreversable.

The SGAV methodology developed in Eastern Europe and recently adopted in Japan is examined in the four sections of Background, Main Structure, Verbo Tonal System and Audio-Visual Method. The purpose of the study is to shed light on the language teaching methodology devised mainly in the united States and is to contribute to up-to-dating language teaching based on the universal trend emerging through wider contact between two blocs than ever before.
