A new kind of bulb called Stern-End-Bulb(SEB) for the improvement of the after part of fine hull forms was developed. The reduction of wave resistance and the improvement of the powering performance for the ship with SEB were shown by the ship model tests, At the same time, the characteristics of wave in the vicinity of the stern and the mechanism of the resistance reduction by SEB were investigated. By the systematical variation of the SEB size, the optimum size of SEB was obtained.

Since the towing tank was operated from early 1979, the test and analysis methods have been established and applied for the performance prediction of ships. Especially the analysis programs for the resistance test ('EHP') and self-propulsion test ('DHP') based on the 1978 ITTC performance prediction method was modified as a name of 'PPTT' in order to include the form factor calculation, two-dimensional analysis method, the prediction on multi-screw ship and the organization of data filing system. Recently the program 'PPTT' was improved to cover the procedure of data fairing, the analysis of propeller-open-water test results carried out at low and high Reynolds numbers, etc. This paper describes the newly improved analysis program 'PTI'.

This report describes the study result of the hydrodynamics characteristics for the wake duct. Two wake ducts for the DWT 25,000 Product Carrier were designed and manufactured. The resistance and propulsion performance of the model with them was evaluated by model tests. The object of the present research for the wake duct is to establish the foundation of the design technique and the performance prediction ability of the one, and furthermore, to prepare the base of the development of new type energy saving device

In target motion analysis (TMA) based on bearings-only (BO), various approaches have been proposed to handle uncertain measurements under clutters. As a good method, S-D assignment is applied to TMA for filtering clutters as well as assigning measurements to targets. In this paper, we propose a novel tracking algorithm that every sensor maintains its state vector of bearings for a target, in order to prevent S-D assignment from deleting the state vector for the target when the target is not detected for a short time. Through simulations, we show the improvement over a conventional scheme under the failure in detecting a target.

In this paper, the nonlinearity of the dynamic plastic deformation of piping system was investigated considering a repeated seismic load combination. For this purpose, the dynamic elastic-plastic finite element analyses considering the internal pressure and seismic accelerations were performed for the piping system seismic motion test due to the Bhabha Nuclear Research Institute. The nonlinearity of the plastic deformation was examined by comparing the superposed equivalent plastic strain for a single seismic load with the equivalent plastic strain for the repeated seismic load combination.

선박평형수 관리협약의 이행을 위해서는 선박평형수에 관련된 여러 가지 정보의 수집과 관리가 필요하다. IMO의 Global Ballast water Management Program에서는 전세계 항만들의 위해도 평가를 위해 선박평형수 배출량 정보, 항만환경 정보, 위해생물 정보 등에 대한 정보시스템을 구축한 바 있다. 한편 미국, 호주, 영국 등의 국가와 발틱해, 지중해 등 지역해 등에서는 나름대로의 정보시스템을 구축하기 시작하였고, 그 범위를 점차 확대해 나가고 있다. 우리나라의 선박해양플랜트연구소에서는 2007년부터 선박평형수 정보 시스템을 구축하기 시작하였다. 본 연구에서는 선박평형수 관리 정보시스템의 필요성과 이에 따른 구성 내용을 도출하고, 이를 위한 정보 수집 방안을 제시하며, 나아가 활용 방안을 보여주고자 한다. An information system for ballast water risk assessment is an essential component to implement the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention. IMO’s Global Ballast water Management Program developed a standardized method of ballast water risk assessment with an information system on ballaster water discharge, port environmental parameters, and risky species, which was applied to six pilot countries. Other information systems have also been established at regional level in the Baltic Sea and Mediterranean Sea as well as at national level in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. This study introduces an information system for ballaster water risk assessment that has been developing by Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) since 2007. The main objectives of this study are to identify the content of the information system, to recommend approaches to collect the relevant data, and furthermore to suggest the potential usage of the information system for the sound management of ballaster water in Korea.
