Vol.15 No.4
The effect of retinoic acid. on hyperkeratotic diseases and. Acne as being published. To confirm the effect of topical retinoic acid, vre subjected 50 patients with mild to severe Acne vulgaris of the face, The patients chosen were not previously treated. with any remedy at least for the past 2 weeks. Eudyna' cream or gel were applied. once or twice a day to the face keeping some distance from the mucous membrane. We checked the number of closed comedones, open comedones, papules, pustules and scara before the treatment and every week for 14 wks during the treatment, The result were as follows: 1. 42 patients began to improve in 2 to 8 wks and markedly improved in 6 to 8 wks. 3 patients dropped out because of severe side effects. Very good: 13 patients(26%) Good: 14 patinets(28%) Satisfactory: 15 patients(80%) None: 5 patients(10%) 2. The side effects: Most of patients suffered from mild to severe erythema, scaling and buming sensation in 2 to 3 days after the initiation of application. In severe cases developed severe erythema, vesicles, pustules, edema and exudation within a week.

A dielectric waveguide structure using rectangular dielectric strip is analyzed directly in terms of the wave equation for quasi TE and quasi TM modes. This problem can be solved, with no approximation in the wave equation for the electric field E and magnetic field H inside and outside the dielectric rectangular waveguide matching the boundary conditions between interfaces. This leads to an eigenvalue problem where spurious modes do not appear. Dispersion characteristic examples are presented for square and rectangular waveguides. The formulation is general and can be used for comparison with other methods such as FDM or FEM in various structures.
2000 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.43 No.4
Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and tolerance of early postoperative oral feeding in gynecologic patients who have underwent intra-abdominal surgery. Thus, we investigated the clinical efficacy of early postoperative oral feeding in gynecologic patients, prospectively. Methods: From September 1998 to March 1999, we studied 80 gynecologic patients undergoing laparotomy at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yonsei University College of Medicine, prospectively. After surgery, the patients were grouped into two arms; the first early oral feeding group began a clear liquid diet on the first postoperative day and advanced to regular diet as tolerated. the second control group received nothing by mouth until return of bowel function. Results: Although more patients in the study group developed nausea, the incidence of vomiting and abdominal distension were comparable in both groups. Time to development of bowel sound and flatus were significantly shorter in study group. Postoperative complications including pneumonia, atelectasis, wound complications, and febrile morbidity occurred insignificantly in both group. Postoperative changes in hematologic indices and electrolytes were comparable in both group. Conclusion: Early postoperative oral feeding in gynecologic patients undergoing intra-abdominal surgery is safe, well tolerated. We believe that re-evaluation of postoperative surgical care may increase our knowledge and better serve our patients.
