Proton is quite different from x-ray in terms of energy emission. As it enters a cancer patient’s body through skin and tissue, it releases a relatively low dose of energy before it reaches the target. It, however, hits the targeted tumor by depositing the biggest dose of energy on it, then suddenly stopping its activity afterwards. The point where the highest energy is released is called as the Bragg peak. The proton beam has many advantages over the conventional x-ray beam because the proton beam radiates primarily the tumor site, leaving the surrounding healthy tissue and organs totally unharmed or relatively less damaged. Thus, the patients can enjoy much more enhanced quality-of-life during and after the treatment as well as have a high probability to be cured from their diseases.

. In the current study, we examined the effects of Artemisiae Capillaris Herba extracts (ACH) on the anti- inflammatory efficacy in keratinocytes. HaCaT keratinocytes were stimulated with M5 (mixture of IL-17A, IL-22, IL-1α, oncostatin M, and TNF-α) for development of a psoriatic keratinocyte model in vitro. Stimulation with M5 resulted in significantly upregulated levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, CCL-20, and CXCL-8. However, upregulation of these inflammatory cytokines and chemokines was attenuated by treatment with ACH. In addition, phosphorylation of MAPKs, JAK1/2 and STAT1/3 was inhibited by ACH in psoriatic keratinocytes. These findings suggest the potential for future use of ACH as a natural cosmetic material.

In the current study, we examined the effects of Glechoma hederacea var. longituba extracts (GH) on ceramide production and anti-inflammatory efficacy in keratinocytes. HaCaT cells were stimulated with M5 (mixture of IL- 17A, IL-22, IL-1α, TNF-α, and oncostatin M) in order to establish a psoriatic keratinocyte model in vitro. Our results showed that treatment with GH resulted in a reduction of S1P (sphigosine 1-phosphate) levels by inhibition of ceramidase in HaCaT cells. In M5-treated HaCaT cells, release of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines including TNF-α, IL-1β, CCL-1, and CCL-2 was significantly inhibited by GH. In addition, phosphorylation of MAPKs was also inhibited by GH. Phosphorylation of NF-κB and STAT3 was also inhibited by GH in psoriatic keratinocytes. These findings suggest that GH can inhibit production of ceramide and suppress expression of inflammatory proteins. Therefore, GH may be useful as a natural cosmetic material.

This study was conducted in order to examine the effects of Sapindus mukorossi Leaf Extracts (SME) on lipid synthesis in 3T3-L1 cells. Treatment with SME resulted in inhibition of lipid synthesis in 3T3-L1 cells. In addition, treatment with SME resulted in dose-dependent suppression of adipogenesis/lipogenesis-related protein expression levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ), CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-α (C/EBP-α), sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c), fatty acid synthase (FAS), acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), MAPKs, and NF-κB. Furthermore, treatment with SME resulted in increased phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) involved in lipid metabolism. These findings suggest that inhibition of adipocyte lipid synthesis by SME occurs through suppression of adipogenesis/lipogenesis-related protein expression and activation of the AMPK pathway. Therefore, based on these findings there is potential for use of SME as a natural material for prevention of obesity.
인간 비만세포에서 무환자나무 열매 추출물의 항알러지 효과

This study was performed to examine the anti-allergic effect of Sapindu mukorossi fruits extracts (SME). Primarily, the inhibitory effect of SME on allergic response was investigated. The effect of SME on human mast cells (LUVA cells) was analyzed via ELISA and western blotting Specifically, cell viability, histamine as marker of degranulation, production of inflammatory cytokines, and protein phosphorylation were evaluated. Results showed that SME suppressed histamine release, decreased cytokine such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-4 and IL-6 in IgE-stimulated LUVA cells. Furthermore, SME significantly decreased the phosphorylation of Lyn, Syk and MAPKs in the LUVA cells. Our results indicate that SME has anti-allergic effect through inhibition of degranulation and production of cytokines.
대식세포에서 Nrf2/HO-1 경로 활성을 통한 그라비올라 잎 추출물의 항산화 효과

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of Graviola leaf extracts (GLE) on the antioxidant activity in LPSstimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. To investigate the antioxidant effects of GLE, we assessed scavenging activities on DPPH and ABTS radicals. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities significantly increased in a GLE dosedependent manner. GLE induced nuclear translocation of nuclear-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a key regulator of HO-1 expression, in a concentration-dependent manner. The expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) was also induced in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells. The expression of proinflammatory proteins including inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) were also obviously inhibited by GLE in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, the production of prostagland E2 (PGE2), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were also remarkably inhibited in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells following treatment with GLE. These results suggest that GLE exerted anti-oxidative effects in RAW264.7 cells through modulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and that GLE could be a new Nrf2 activator for the treatment and prevention of oxidative stress.
