A risk assessment study of Bacillus cereus in packaged tofu at a retail market in Korea

The objective of the study was to conduct a quantitative microbial risk assessment of Bacillus cereus for packaged tofu in Korea. Packaged tofu, including soft and firm tofu from six retail markets in Korea, were monitored to determine the initial contamination level of B. cereus. Predictive growth and survival models were developed to predict the change in B. cereus populations as a function of time and temperature (4–45 C) from market to home. B. cereus was detected in 11 (12.9%) samples among 85 samples purchased at retail markets, and the average contamination level was 1.84 log CFU/g. Growth of B. cereus in tofu was observed at a temperature above 11 C. The probability risk of B. cereus diarrheal illness due to packaged tofu consumption at the retail market is 1.0 9 10-4 per person per day. Key risk factors at the retail market and home are storage temperature and time of packaged tofu.

In this study, rainfall infiltration in vault of the second near-surface disposal facility was evaluated on the basis of various disposal scenarios. A total of four different disposal scenarios were examined based on the locations of the radioactive waste containers. A numerical model was developed using the FEFLOW software and finite element method to simulate the behavior of infiltrated water in each disposal scenario. The effects of the disposal scenarios on the infiltrated water were evaluated by estimating the flux of the infiltrated water at the vault interfaces. For 300 years, the flux of infiltrated water flowing into the vault was estimated to be 1 mm/year or less for all scenario. The overall results suggest that when the engineered barriers are intact, the flux of infiltrated water cannot generate a sufficient pressure head to penetrate the vault. In addition, it is confirmed that the disposal scenarios have insignificant effects on the infiltrated water flowing into the vault.
지구통계 및 다중 유체 거동 모사에 근거한 스팀주입중력법 적용 최적지 결정 척도 개발 연구

본 연구에서는 스팀주입중력법 (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, SAGD)을 이용한 오일샌드 개발 시 적지 선정을 위한 대안적 척도가 제시되었다. 기존 SAGD 공법 적용 시 스팀주입효율이 우수한 지역을 선정하기 위해 비투멘이 함유될 가능성이 큰 고투수성 퇴적층의 누적 층후가 주로 이용되었다. 그러나 고투수성 퇴적층의 누적 층후 외에도 수직 평균거리 또한 스팀주입효율에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 해당 두 가지 척도(즉, 누적 층후도 및 수직 평균거리)가 SAGD 스팀주입효율에 미치는 영향에 대한 비교 및 분석이 이루어졌다. 이를 위해, 구성 암상 간 특정 전이확률을 기반으로 발생시킨 누적 층후 및 수직 평균거리가 상이한 다양한 가상의 2차원 저류층에 대해 고온 고압 증기 주입 모사를 실시한 후 생성된 스팀챔버의 크기를 비교 및 분석하였다. 2차원 SAGD모사 결과, 투수성 퇴적층의 수직 평균두께가 두꺼운 지역이 누적 층후가 두꺼운 지역보다 더 넓은 범위의 스팀챔버를 형성하는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 최적의 오일샌드 개발 입지 선정 시, 기존에 이용되고 있던 누적 층후뿐만 아니라 투수성 퇴적층의 수직 평균거리도 함께 고려하였을 때 더욱 적합한 SAGD공법의 최적 입지를 선정할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. In this study, two viable measures of mean length and cumulative thickness of sand layers as important spatial statistics responsible for optimal SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) location for oil sand development were compared. For the comparisons, various deposits composed of sand and clay media were realized using a geostatistical simulator and the extent of steam chamber is simulated using multiphysics numerical simulator (dualphase flow and heat transfer). Based on the spatial statistics of each realization and the corresponding size of simulated steam chamber, the representativeness of two candidate measures (cumulative thickness and mean length of permeable media) were compared. The results of the geostatistical and SAGD simulations suggest that the mean length of permeable media is better correlated to the size of steam chamber than the cumulative thickness. Given those two-dimensional results, it is concluded that the cumulative thickness of the permeable media alone may not be a sufficient criterion for determining an optimal SAGD location and the mean length needs to be complementarily considered for the sound selections.
