In this study, the author examined the relational network among the desires of writer and alter ego structure as well as concealing and revealing the desire to suicide in depth focusing upon his early literary work of Mouth Frozen Over. In addition, the author attempted to contrast the desire to suicide shown in his posthumous work of Sadness of Soil. In Mouth Frozen Over, the writer appeared to remove his desire to suicide by creating alter ego structure of Choi Gyu-Sik and Isogai, distributing the Id related characteristics and the past, and thus inducing Isogai to commit a suicide. In contrast, the desire to suicide of Isogai was found to be transferred to the speaker of the novel in his posthumous work Sadness of Soil, and the savior ‘you’ committed a suicide for the same reason as the grandmother of speaker, which implied the suicide while blocking off the possibility of eternal salvation. In short, the story reflects the life experience of Kim Hak-Young himself.
Molecular cloning and expression analysis of a C-type lectin in the rock bream Oplegnathus fasciatus

C-type lectins are crucial for pathogen recognition, innate immunity, and cell-cell interactions. In this study, a C-type lectin gene was cloned from the rock bream. The full-length RbCTL cDNA was 729 bp with a 429 bp ORF encoding a 164-residue protein. The deduced amino acid sequence of RbCTL had all of the conserved features crucial for its fundamental structure, including the four cysteine residues involved in sulfide bridge formation and potential Ca2+/carbohydrate-binding sites. RbCTL contains a signal peptide one single carbohydrate recognition domain. It showed 29.4% similarity to the C-type lectin of rainbow trout. RbCTL mRNA was predominately expressed in gill and head-kidney tissue and expressed less in peripheral blood leukocytes, trunk-kidney, spleen, liver, intestine and muscle. Expression of RbCTL was differentially upregulated in rock bream stimulated with LPS, Con A/PMA and poly I:C.

Shin Chaeho expressed his view on class phenomenon as anarchist in Chosun Revolution Declaration written in 1923. In terms of Christian view, he showed his perspective in Giguksung after Three Kingdom era in 1909, Dream Sky in 1916, Rather Pursuing Monster in 1924, and New Era Numerous Writings by Man about Town in 1025. The point that marked the transformation comparing with previous Christian view was A Fierce Battle Against Dragon to Dragon. It evidenced that his view on Christianity was established based upon the class view of anarchism, and the author thought that Kotoku Shusui's Christian Annihilation Theory motivated Shin Chaeho to divide his view on Christianity before and after A Fierce Battle Against Dragon to Dragon. It is actually difficulty to embody a thought as soon as it is accepted. Shin Chaeho also came to embody at several distinct stages after accepting the anarchism, and the key word of Christianity was found while he was accepting the thought of anarchism around 1927. In other words, he was not obtaining the whole though base as anarchist until the year of 1928 though Shin Chaeho's ultimate philosophical point was anarchism.

The responses of peripheral blood leucocytes (PBLs) from the black rockfish Sebastes schlegelii stimulated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and/or concanavalin A/phorbol myristate acetate (Con A/PMA) were investigated using a cDNA microarray consisting of 5,088 clones. This analysis showed that 254 unique genes were more than twofold upregulated,and they were selected for sequencing. Among the mitogens,84 genes were more than twofold upregulated in LPS-stimulated PBLs, and 112 genes were induced in Con A/PMA-stimulated PBLs. Moreover, 58 other genes were more than twofold upregulated in PBLs stimulated with both LPS and Con A/PMA. Other genes were not significantly induced. Overall, these results suggest that certain genes in black rockfish have important roles in physiological and pathological processes. Furthermore, the microarray analysis suggested a promising tool for immune mechanisms in teleost fish.

The responses of peripheral blood leucocytes (PBLs) from the rock bream Oplegnathus fasciatus stimulated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS), concanavalin A/phorbol myristate acetate (Con A/PMA), and/or polyriboinosinic polyribocytidylic acid (poly I:C) were investigated using a cDNA microarray consisting of 2,400 clones. A total of 336 unique genes were more than twofold upregulated:169 in LPS-stimulated PBLs, 209 in Con A/PMA-stimulated PBLs, and 146 in poly I:C-stimulated PBLs. Moreover, other genes were similarly up-regulated with combinations of stimulants: 85 genes in PBLs stimulated with both LPS and Con A/PMA, 79 in PBLs stimulated with both LPS and poly I:C, and 66 in PBLs stimulated with both Con A/PMA and poly I:C. Furthermore,42 other genes were more than twofold up-regulated in PBLs stimulated with all tested mitogens. Other genes were not significantly induced. Overall, these results suggest that certain genes in rock bream play important roles in physiological and pathological processes. Furthermore,the microarray analysis showed promise as a tool for investigating immune mechanisms in teleost fish.

Adjuvants are immune enhancers that are often used in vaccination to augment the immune response of a vaccine, thereby enhancing the protective immunity against the targeted disease. In the present study, we used the recombinant protein, such as rRbCC1, this protein was produced from rock bream CC chemokine 1. To verify the adjuvant effects of this recombinant protein, the immune responses of rock bream to Streptococcus iniae (S. iniae) FKC vaccination, which alone or in combination with recombinant protein was analyzed and then also performed experimental challenge with live S. iniae. The result of serum agglutination titres was showed relatively low levels however, the efficacy of FKC vaccine still conferred protection against S. iniae. Moreover, the adverse effects result showed that no statistically significant difference was revealed between high concentration injected and non-injected fish groups, generally. The relative percent survival (RPS) of FKC + recombinant vaccination group was significantly higher than that of vaccinated group with FKC alone. After experimental challenge to the rock bream by injection with live bacteria (S. iniae), the FKC + rRbCC1 vaccination group was showed 87.0% RPS, however, the RPS of FKC alone vaccination was 68.2%. The results indicated that the recombinant protein as an adjuvant had a clear synergism to injection vaccine of rock bream.

Bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI) and lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) are important components of the mammalian innate defence system against Gram-negative infections. The BPI/LBP cDNA was identified from the black rockfish ConA/PMA or LPS stimulated leukocyte cDNA library. The full-length BR-BPI/LBP cDNA was 2118 bp long and contained an open reading frame (ORF) of 1422 bp that encoded 473 amino-acid residues. The 5’ UTR had a length of 57 bp, and the 3’ UTR 639 bp. The molecular weight and theoretical isoelectric point (pI) values were calculated 51.4 kDa and 9.72, respectively. Compared with other known BPI or BPI/LBP peptide sequences, the most conserved regions of the black rockfish BPI/LBP peptide were found to be the BPI1 N-terminal, BPI2 C-terminal domains and a LPS binding domain. Phylogenetic analysis based on the deduced amino acid sequence revealed a homologous relationship between the BPI/LBP sequence of black rockfish and that of other teleosts. The black rockfish BPI/LBP gene was predominantly expressed in the PBLs, head kidney, trunk kidney and spleen. The expression of the black rockfish BPI/LBP molecule was induced in the peripheral blood leukocytes (PBLs) from 1 to 24 h following LPS stimulation, with a peak at 12 h post-stimulation.

In this study, epidemiological cut-off values were estimated for 44 Photobacterium damselae isolates, since clinical breakpoints have not been established for this pathogenic bacterium. The susceptibility of the isolates to 10 antibiotics was evaluated using internationally standardized disc diffusion protocols. Normalized resistance interpretation was used to generate statistically valid epidemiological cut-off values for the susceptibility data. There were not enough strains exhibiting full sensitivity to ampicillin and amoxicillin to allow analysis of these antibiotics. Because there were only a marginally sufficient number of strains exhibiting full sensitivity to oxytetracycline, the cut-off value generated provided only a provisional estimate. The valid wild-type cut-off values were <13, 13, 9, 22, 25, 27, and 28 mm for gentamicin, cephalexin, erythromycin, oxolinic acid, flumequine, florfenicol, and sulfamethoxazole/ trimethoprim, respectively. The application of these cut-off values should greatly facilitate the rational selection of antibiotics for use in commercial fish farms.
