Extruded alummum sections are used to the light construction of the rail vehicles structures. However, the research works on the crashworthy design of the extruded aluminum sections are not published sufficiently. In this paper, the impact energy absorption characteristics of extruded alummum sections are investigated by crash simulation and test. The optimized energy absorbing studies are also performed based on the selected design parameter variations of the sectional shapes and the dimensional ratios.

The aim of this study is to design the grinding wheel and the forming die as well as to evaluate grinding parameter's effect on the wear amount and the surface roughness. For convenance sake, the scheme of design of experiments was considered. The grade of the developed grinding wheel was tested for forming pressure and sintering conditions. The response surface models were successfully developed to predict the wear amount of the grinding wheel and the surface roughness using the experimental results. And also parameter optimization of the special purposed grinding wheel for textile industry was performed by the genetic algorithm.

The crushable front part of the conventional TGV is composed of 3 energy absorption zones; retractable coupler, protective headstock and honeycomb structure. This frontal part must absorb about 80% of the energy that should be done in a crashworthy design. The conventional TGV can absorb 2MJ impact energy by the frontal end, but 5MJ is the design target for energy absorption in the next generation TGV. To accomplish this design goal, a new concept of design is necessary for energy absorbing components. In this paper, the design concept of the tube expansion energy absorber will be proposed and analyzed. The crash analysis of the energy absorber are performed by comparing the value of the theoretical equation with the simulation calculated from the commercial nonlinear FE-Code "PAM-CRASH" S/W.
Regional Frequency Analysis for Rainfall using L-Moment

본 연구에서는 L-모멘트법에 의한 지역화 빈도분석에 따른 설계강우량 추정에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 제주도와 울릉도의 강우관측소를 제외한 분석에 사용된 65개 강우관측소의 강우자료 수집과 선정된 강우관측지점의 강우자료의 지속시간, 즉 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 및 72시간 지속의 연최대치 계열을 구성하였다. 관측지점을 대상으로 Cluster 분석을 실시한 결과 우리나라의 강우관측지점에 대한 합리적인 지역화로 5개의 지역으로 구분되었다. 지역화된 지역에 대한 지속기간별 극치강우자료의 적정분포모형 선정을 위한 6가지 분포모형의 적용하고 적용분포의 L-모멘트비를 산정하여 L-모멘트비도를 도시하고 K-S 검정에 의한 적정분포모형을 선정하였다. 선정된 적정분포는 GEV 분포이며 이 분포에 의해 강우관측치의 점빈도 및 지역빈도분석에 의한 설계강우량을 유도하였다. Monte Carlo 기법에 의해 모의발생된 강우량의 점빈도 및 지역빈도분석에 의한 설계강우량을 유도하였다. 실측치 및 모의발생치의 점빈도 및 지역빈도분석에 의한 설계강우량의 비교분석을 위해 상대제곱근오차와 상대편의오차에 의해 분석한 결과 점빈도분석에 의한 설계강우량보다 지역빈도분석에 의한 설계강우량의 사용이 적정한 것으로 나타났다. This study was conducted to derive the optimal regionalization of the precipitation data which can be classified on the basis of climatologically and geographically homogeneous regions all over the regions except Cheju and Ulreung islands in Korea. A total of 65 rain gauges were used to regional analysis of precipitation. Annual maximum series for the consecutive durations of 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 72hr were used for various statistical analyses. K-means clustering method is used to identify homogeneous regions all over the regions. Five homogeneous regions for the precipitation were classified by the K-means clustering. Using the L-moment ratios and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the underlying regional probability distribution was identified to be the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution among applied distributions. The regional and at-site parameters of the generalized extreme value distribution were estimated by the linear combination of the probability weighted moments, L-moment. The regional and at-site analysis for the design rainfall were tested by Monte Carlo simulation. Relative root-mean-square error (RRMSE), relative bias (RBIAS) and relative reduction (RR) in RRMSE were computed and compared with those resulting from at-site Monte Carlo simulation. All show that the regional analysis procedure can substantially reduce the RRMSE, RBIAS and RR in RRMSE in the prediction of design rainfall. Consequently, optimal design rainfalls following the regions and consecutive durations were derived by the regional frequency analysis.

Recently, many engineers actively participate in research and development w.r.t the weight reduction and the safety increase of vehicle body structure to meet the requirement of fuel economy and regulations. However, vehicle design concept related with weight reduction and safety increase is reduced to the design conflict problem. In the paper, the axial and bending collapse test of aluminum extruded beams are performed and the collapse characteristics are investigated. The analysis method to verify the fracture characteristics of aluminum extruded beam is presented and discussed.

Various forms of wearable bio-signal monitoring systems have been developed recently. Acquisition of stable bio-signal data for health care purposes needs to be unconscious and continuous without hindrance to the users`` daily activities. The garment type is a suitable form of a wearable bio-signal monitoring system; however, motion artifacts caused by body movement degrade the signal quality during the measurement of bio-signals. It is crucial to stabilize the electrode position to reduce motion artifacts generated when in motion. The problems with motion artifacts remain unresolved despite their significant effect on bio-signal monitoring. This research creates a foundation for the design of garment-type wearable systems for everyday use by finding a method to reduce motion artifacts through modular design. Two distinct garment-type wearable systems (tee-shirt with a motion artifact-reducing module (MARM) and tee-shirt without a MARM) were designed to compare the effects of modular design on the measurement of heart activity in terms of electrode position displacement, signal quality index value, and morphological quality. The tee-shirt with MARM showed superior properties and yielded higher quality signals than the tee-shirt without MARM. In addition, the tee-shirt with MARM showed a better repeatability of the heart activity signals. Therefore, a garment design with MARM is an efficient way to acquire stable bio-signals while in motion.

Objectives: We investigated the anti-aging effects on skin with 9 Repetitive steaming and fermenting herbal composition extract (FHE). Methods: Herbal composition is comprised of Panax Ginseng, Rehmannia glutinosa, Polygonum multiflorum and Polygonatum Sibiricum. They steamed and fermented with Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus brevis by turns at 9 times. We measured various effects related to skin aging such as scavenging activity against free radical, cell proliferation, collagen synthesis and toxicity of 9 repetitive steaming and fermenting herbal composition extract were evaluated and compared with herbal composition extract (HE). Results: As the number of steaming and fermenting cycle increased free-radical scavenging activity were increased. But cell proliferating ratio was not increased when the number of steaming and fermenting cycle. The FHE could significantly increase the collagen synthetic ratio compared with HE treated group. And, FHE was showed no toxicity at all tested concentrations. Conclusions: The results of our study propose that FHE has good anti-aging effects on skin.
