A loud speaker-driven zero-c.o.p. thermoacoustic refrigerator where an automotive catalytic converter is utilized as a stack has been fabricated and investigated experimentally. Without any heat exchangers at both ends of stack(and thus with zero c. o. p.), temperatures on the stack are measured and various heat transfer rates are calculated from the measured temperatures. Temperatures on the stack have been also calculated numerically using a finite difference method. The measured temperatures are in fair agreement with the calculated temperatures for lower frequency than 300Hz, however, the former deviates from the latter considerably for higher frequency. Two types of c. o. p. have been defined as appropriate to the experiment. While the nominal c. o. p. is zero(the condition in which the pumped heat flow rate in the pore exactly cancels the axial heat conduction down the stack), the true c. o. p. is found to be about 0.14 for 300Hz from the experiments.

This study focuses on the changing behaviors of female tourists in modern society and their decision-making and identifies the differences of female tourists' behavioral patterns among three Asian countries(Korea, China and Japan), whose potentialities in the global tourism industry are on the rise. For the purpose of this study, a wide range of factors related to female tourists in Korea, China and Japan as well as other variables associated with those factors were compared and analyzed extensively to reach some implications. In terms of the comparison of the level of impact of a wide range of variables on decisions on tour and tourists activities, Korean tourists were found to show higher support for economic activities and mutual influence of females, compared with the other two countries; in China the number of years of economic activities of females, active exchange of opinions and thoughts and the family intimacy were found to be more influencing factors. In Japan, the degree of contribution to house income was found to have high impact on decision-making of a tour. As seen above from the study with the female tourists from three Asian countries, the changes in their behavioral patterns particularly as tourists may hardly have been approached as a research subject and the results from the study are probably to be used to establish and develop appropriately customized and differentiated marketing plans and products aiming at the female tourist market in each country, which can be translated as the meaning of this study effort.

In many fields, nanotechnology is leading to the development of purposely-engineered nanoparticles and devices demonstrating new, unique and non-scalable properties. However, concern has been expressed that these same properties may present unique challenges in terms of the potential health impact. Airborne particles associated with engineered nanoparticles are of particular concern, as they can readily enter the body through inhalation. Research into the potential occupational health risks associated with inhaling engineered nanoparticles is actively being conducted in the U.S. and globally. In this article, the potential occupational health effects of inhaled nanoparticles and methods for measuring exposure to nanoparticles are discussed. Critical research needs in this field are also briefly addressed.

The evaporation of sludge particles in a sludge dryer has been numerically investigated with commercial CFX4.1 code. Gas flow field, gas temperature field, sludge particle trajectories, and the moisture content variation of sludge particles are calculated fort various influencing factors, i. e., gas swirl velocity, initial particle distribution, gas temperature. Evaporation of sludge particles increases with gas swirl velocity, several supplying positions, and gas temperature, respectively due to increased residence time, increased contacting surface area, and increased temperature difference between gas and particle.
