사례연구를 통해서 본 하늘반 유아들의 거친 신체 놀이에 대한 교사의 상호작용

본 연구는 유아들의 거친 신체 놀이에 대해 교사가 긍정적이고 적극적으로 상호작용을 잘하고 있는 한 학급의 사례를 탐구해 봄으로써 교사가 어떻게 거친 신체 놀이에 대해 상호작용하고 있는지, 상호작용에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 놀이중심 교육과정이 이루어지고 있는 서울에 위치한 초록유치원 하늘반 교사 2명과 유아 28명을 대상으로 하여 질적 사례 연구방법으로 연구하였다. 연구결과, 하늘반 교사들은 유아들의 거친 신체 놀이에 대해 상호작용을 할 때 우선 주의깊게 거친 신체 놀이 관찰하기, 시기와 유아 개인차를 고려하여 거친 신체 놀이 상호작용하기, 두 교사 간 일관성 유지하기라는 원칙을 바탕으로 하여 거친 신체 놀이 상황을 유지하며 개입하기, 거친 신체 놀이에 대해 유아들과 함께 토의하기, 여러 가지 방법으로 거친 신체 놀이에서의 약속 상기시키기, 친구의 몸과 마음을 배려하지 않거나 하늘반 약속을 지키지 않았을 경우 거친 신체 놀이를 단호하게 제지하기의 상호작용 전략을 사용하고 있었다. 유아들의 거친 신체 놀이가 보다 안전하고 교육적인 놀이가 될 수 있도록 하늘반 교사가 적절하게 상호작용하는데 영향을 주는 요인으로는 거친 신체 놀이에 대한 긍정적 인식, 모든 유아들을 존중하는 태도, 거친 신체 놀이 상호작용에 대한 반성적 사고인 것으로 나타났다. Though early childhood education principles recognize rough-and-tumble play as healthy and linked to positive cognitive and emotional development, many teachers misunderstand it and prohibit it. In an effort to discern how to promote and maintain positive teacher interactions with children during rough-and-tumble play, this qualitative study explores two teachers` interactions and the factors informing those interactions with 28 five-year old Chorok kindergarten in Seoul. Study results reveal 1) that the teachers used several intervention strategies to maintain the play, discuss the play with children, remind them of agreed upon rules and/or restrain them from breaking the rules. 2) These strategies were predicated on observations of the children`s rough-and-tumble play and took into account developmental stages and individual children`s developmental gaps. Most importantly, successful strategies were informed by the teachers` positive perceptions about the nature and value of rough-and-tumble play, their respectful attitude toward young children, and reflective thinking. These findings have useful implications for pre-service and in-service training in fostering healthy rough-and-tumble play in early childhood settings.
